Edie was my great great Aunt... my mum remembers her well, she had quite a sad end to her life after so much love on the stage in Scotland. But at least she was with family back in Lancashire... thank you for posting this :)
we are trying desperately to research her life... there's so little about her considering she never stopped working, and was quite a well known 'star'... apparently she had a tiny yorkshire terrier she kept in a huge Edwardian hand warmer muff... it used to stay backstage when she was on stage!
I would be grateful if you discover more about her life and let me know. I have some postcards of her and know just a little. She appeared with my family on stage at the old metropole in Glasgow.
Lyrics: You say you're going to leave me, That you and I must part. Oh, why do you want to grieve me? Why do you break my heart? When first you called me 'Dearie', The whole world seemed so fair. Ah, but now, you're growing weary. Why did you make me care? Why did you make me care? Why bring me grief so well? You told me that sweethearts should never part. Why go and bring me grief and break my heart? Why can't we meet once more? Why can't we love as before? Love once seems so rosey, And lives so fair. Why did you make me care? Why can't we meet once more? Why can't we love as before? Love once seem so rosey, And lives so fair. Why did you make me care? Love once seem so rosey, And lives so fair. Why did you make me care?
My Nana loved this song. She would get so teary listening to it. It's her birthday today she would have been a 114 yrs old.
It's my birthday today too and one of my favorite songs as well!

Lyrics:
You say you're going to leave me,
That you and I must part.
Oh, why do you want to grieve me?
Why do you break my heart?
When first you called me 'Dearie',
The whole world seemed so fair.
Ah, but now, you're growing weary.
Why did you make me care?
Why did you make me care?
Why bring me grief so well?
You told me that sweethearts should never part.
Why go and bring me grief and break my heart?
Why can't we meet once more?
Why can't we love as before?
Love once seems so rosey,
And lives so fair.
Why did you make me care?
Why can't we meet once more?
Why can't we love as before?
Love once seem so rosey,
And lives so fair.
Why did you make me care?
Love once seem so rosey,
And lives so fair.
Why did you make me care?
This is a favourite of many inebriated Glaswegians. The singer they emulate is one Edie (Edith) Healy, rather than Glen Daly though.
