- The Transcontinental Race is a is a self-supported bicycle race across Europe with no route! Riders have to create their own route and include the mandatory checkpoints and parcours.
Definitely the toughest ultra-distance cycling race in Europe that challenge your body and mind.
This is an insight into my story and my partner's as we complete the 3.800 km in 10 days and 21 H finishing as first pair and 16th position overall.
Self-supported you have to take care of all your needs and carry your equipment.
Self-routed, there’s no fixed course or route, you plan your own route passing through 4 different checkpoints ☑️

I saw that you’re wearing blood glucose monitors. Can I ask what the purpose and benefit that gives in such long distance races? Do you feel like having that knowledge makes it easier to get the right stuff for the body and recover faster?

Thank you so much Anna 😊 I use the Supersapiens glucose monitor during races to improve my fuelling and try to maintain stable glucose levels which I found really helpful, specially to avoid underfuelling. Definitely, the data is super useful to know when to eat certain foods, as it changes a lot from one person to another and how to fuel to improve recovery. I have a podcast episode coming up Wednesday next week talking about the glucose monitor and how I use it, as I got many questions about it thought will be nice to share some insights :)

Great documentary of your efforts and the difficulty of the race. The challenge of the ride was really well depicted. How you manage to ride these events, film everything and then edit it into a complete story is beyond me. This is a really fantastic video, the hour flew by! Congratulations on your success in the event!

Huge effort so impressive and congratulations on first pair and a great video to go along with it. I know it's tough but I am so glad you put the low points in there, I don't think it would feel as authentic if it was only the high points because we know that's not how these things are. I've been getting back into cycling the last few months after touring seemed to drop out of my life about 10 years, and while it will take me a while to get to the required level this has definitely inspired me to put finishing this race as a goal in a few years time.

More elaborated (I will try to keep away spoilers): the documentary is two folded. The first part is entertaining and encouraging. Beautiful scenery and a nice insight in daily riding. Filming is as one would experience the race, with all its ups an downs. As a spectator you are sucked into a story you cannot think of before.
The concluding part offers a new layer to self-made cycling documentaries I have never seen before. Though the editing and camera-work is a bit DIY-level, the content you get for it is amongst the most useful you will ever meet in a documentary like this.
As said: a must watch for every bikepacking/ultracycling-enthousiast. All in all, this is an authentic approach to record a mammoth race like the TCR. Probably the documentary of the year.

First of all - congratulations! I watched your dot throughout and it was super-exiting to see you both perform so well.
But behind the dot is the story and here you tell it so well - the laughter and the joy, but also the tears and the pain.
I loved the drone footage and the stunning views - nice touch. I also loved those funny but sad moments that we can now look back at and smile, but at the time it was depths of despair! And I liked that you shared these because it shows what the journey is really like - not just lovely views and smiling sunny faces.
The interview at the end was excellent and so nice to hear the mutual admiration.

Few of TCR finishers told me that this is very hard race because of parcours. We will see, will I be strong enough to start that kind of race 😅

I have no words , not many people understand what it means what it feels to participate and finish this types of races, it is my dream to participate and finish this race (though I am a complete rookie in cycling, have not done any big race) .
Would love to know what preparation it takes, what rough budget I should keep in mind, what about visas ( I am from non EU country) , and every single detail .
