Vaginal Davis | Artist talk

Meet the American artist, filmmaker, performer, and writer Vaginal Davis in conversation with Moderna Museet's curator Hendrik Folkerts on 18 May 2024 in connection with the opening of the exhibition Vaginal Davis: Magnificient Product.
The conversation started with Vaginal Davis' mother Mary Magdalene DuPlantier, and growing up among strong women in Los Angeles.
They talked about the clubs and zines of the Los Angeles queercore scene and the women, queer and trans people who made up the early punk rock scene in Los Angeles. Ms. Davis also talks about the performance and art festival Platinum Oasis.
In the mid-2000s, Ms. Davis moved to Berlin, Germany, where she has collaborated with the performance collective CHEAP for 20 years.

The exhibition “Vaginal Davis: Magnificent Product” is initiated by Moderna Museet and extends across several locations in Stockholm: Moderna Museet, Nationalmuseum, Accelerator, Index - The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation, Tensta konsthall and MDT (Moderna Dansteatern). Each institution highlights a different aspect of Vaginal Davis’s expansive practice.
The exhibition is supported by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Terra Foundation for American Art.
