TV's Saturday Morning Cartoon Legacy: The Jetsons (Rosey: head of the household)

- We continue our look back at The Jetsons... and their family robot Rosey. There are potentially many 'robotic' AI-like assistants in our family homes today, including Amazon's Alexa, Google's Home and Apples Siri. But none of them can compare to the amazing Rosey the robot maid who ran the Jetsons household.
This video clip shows Rosey in action, and how enamored and dependent the Jetson family became with her. It is one of our personal favorites here at the Vanguard office. The introduction of Rosey the robot to the Jetsons' cartoon existence back in the early 1960s was as much a comment on Rosey the 'alloy and bolts machine' as it was on Jane, the 'shopping machine.' We're not entirely sure if this take on the modern American housewife in 1962 would go over well in 2018. As Jane's mom tells her: "You don't need money, charge it."
The Jetsons ran just one season on Sunday nights on ABC, but has been a favorite of young and old for decades. The show premiered on September 23, 1962 and ended its run on March 17, 1963.
Like The Flintstones, The Jetsons has had many spin-offs and remakes over the decades, and a feature film in the 1990's as well. A very impressive run for both cartoons. In fact, The Jetsons had a nice run on Saturday mornings as well for all three networks (ABC, CBS, NBC) over the years.
This video clip is presented here on RUclips for the entertainment and informational value of the viewer, and no copyright infringement is intended.
Enjoy!
Coming up later at the end of this week, we'll take a quick detour away from Hanna Barbera creations (but will return in full force in July) to look at the cartoon Dick Tracy and another amazing 'high-tech' gadget from the 1960's that predated Star Treks' communicator but looks surprisingly like today's Apple Watch (2.0).
it amazes me that the future looks so midcentury...
Instead of Sodom
And why is that so astonishing considering when these cartoons were produced. I'd think that was a good thing because it was a time when there was a good sense of style and good taste. That applied to everything in our lives then including clothes. Unlike today, there is little mainstream good taste in clothing thanks to the low low prices standards of WalMart. But some with taste seem to be recognizing the value of styles from 1958 to 1968. They are examples what good design is.

I like all the Jetsons characters, but Rosie is my favorite ❤️
Rosie is a very special and important character in the the jetsons because from the very beginning robots have played an important part in science fiction movies and television shows
💛
I agree
Rosie was the boss
Jean Vanderpyle, the voice behind Rosie the robot was also the voice of Wilma Flintstone. I always loved Rosey. She made "The Jetsons" cool!
I've never seen this show and yet Rosie appeared in my dream last night alongside characters from cartoons I've actually seen.
She’s like a robotic version of a Mammy
Wrong! Rosie is not a robotic mammy; she was based on the fictional maid Hazel (played by the late Shirley Booth) from the TV show "Hazel" that ran from 1961 to 1966.
The Jetsons was a scarily accurate glimpse into what layed ahead of us.
Rosie was such a great character. It may not be original, but when I got my Roomba, I almost immediately started calling her - of course - "Rosie."
Rosey always felt self aware to me
2:23 my favorite part.
I would allow Rosie to scratch my back any day 🥰
"Rosie the Robot" was basically a clone of Hazel (which was also produced by Screen Gems), well apart from her appearance in the end credits (where George takes Astro for a walk even though he didn't appear until the fourth episode) she only appeared in 2 episodes of the original 1960s series (self-titled first episode and Rosie's Boyfriend) in the 1980s version she appears more frequently.
Thanks for the info Mr. Holloway.
That's why we can't get any job
Rosey almost got laid my megatron.
Only chads get that reference
Love the Jetsons
Actually this is not fantasy anymore. A local Northeast US Supermarket chain called Stop & Shop now has a "Rosie" type robot that no joke is mopping the store's floor. Saw it myself here in September 2019.
But without the ability to communicate or the personality 😟
@@galebailey5583 That can easily be fixed with the latest transformer neural networks they're pumping out nowadays.
I love watching the Jetsons
Never fear, while Rosie's here
Maravilhosos o elenco curti e curto 🙏🥰😍🎩🌹
Totally makes sense to have ai-guided robots do the cleaning and cooking. I hope she doesn't put too much chilly into my chilly.
Chatgpt will soon be doing my dishes 🎉🎉🎉
Her original role was limited. It was expanded on the 1985 reboot.
My grandma named her Roomba Rosie. But not because of the Jetsons. She found out about after naming her vacuum that and someone asked if it was because of the Jetsons.
Metal Mame.
Swing low on a saucer going around the galaxy.
Rosey would actually do the house work instead of just reminding me to do it.
Rosie the robot is Wilma Flintstone if nobody knew that
Me: 2020 is going to be like the jetsons
COVID-19: am i a joke to u?!?!
How her mother looks after Wilma's mother 😂😂😂
Too bad that Rosie the Robot does appeared in 2 episodes of The Jetsons cartoons from 1962-63, and they are: Rosie The Robot season 1, episode 1), and Rosie’s Boyfriend (season 1, episode 8). Rosie The Robot does appeared in almost every episodes on The Jetsons cartoon for season 2 (1985-86), and season 3 (1986-87).
I just came to watch Rosie hit Mr. Spacely with the pineapple upside down cake
👌☺
0:25 xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner, amazing how the fantasy become reality!
I wanna Rosie ! its 2024 ,where is she for cryin out loud! 😪
I’m here cause Amazon released the robot named Astro
2:22 😁
This will never happen or it will
"In the 21st century..."
Well here we are a quarter into the 21st century and we got nothing like the Jetsons got.
Instead of Rosie we got AI
Rosy 🤔♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
The Jetsons
I named my dog after her, she's just as sassy
This is why I don't trust technology, oh my goodness Alexa is
The AI we want
I need me a Rosie 😂
😅😅😅😅😅
Me to
Robotina
Its the 21st century now and were not advanced that far yet
My robot vacuum cleaner new name is Rosie 😁 Rosie or Rosey? Which one is true ?
My name cartoon the Jetsons
And so then...the ither choice for television worked well.
house-maid robot n 👩🍳👩🍳 👨🍳 🧑🍳 👩🍳
Rosey the robot. Would rub bidets bidets
The Jetsons is a prequel to the Flintstones. Before the bomb.
Jeremiah 13
This made me so mad, she can’t push a button so she buys a maid to push a button.
That's the joke!
Too much button pushing. She got carpel tunnel in her finger. Plus, Rosie got jokes and attitude.
@@disneyaddict7418 It's an unfunny running joke. The biggest problem with the Jetsons is the family is too lazy and they are around the house way too much. The show would improve alot if the whole family was outside more often and was more mischievous not Simpsons levels though.
She didn't need a robot, she needed the back of a Mexican man's hand across her face.
Alexa goes to Hustler hollywood with a thong
Sniff more

Everything out of context that is what people do with out a clue! Little clips here and there never says it all on anything!!! Especially from the past!!!!
Lol, what does this mean
She actually a little lazy and very whiny especially since some the chores and tasks involve with a press of a button or few
Mr. DCAFS Once-Ler Muniz 54 still better and less whiny than Jane. And pressing buttons isn't easy with claws for hands
