That can be true but the reality is that we don't really know how big and successful City Pop was in the 80's.For example, some of the early singles of Junko Yagami weren't successful at first and she's still around and made great records during the 80's and i think Love Trip is better that some records from the same period .Maybe Takako wasn't interested in keep trying and retired.

It seems that the executive producer of this album was an important person in Kitty Record Company at that time, and it may be that she happened to be the singer who simply fit this Kitty's project . Kazuo Shiina(Guiters, composer & arrenger), Katz Hoshi(composer,ex-Mops), Takao Kisugi(composer), Hiroyuki Namba(Key,composer), and other composers and total sound produced of the album was by Genji Sawai(sax). many of them who produced the music part of this album have been active at the forefront of '80s-'90s Japanese city-pop music scene , even after this album. After releasing Love Trip, Mamiya was able to fully enter the WIRED and integrate herself into all art. Years later, a prophet was born as Zen Huxtable who was intended to bring us the truth. The message was lost when Zen blacked out from chugging twice his stomach's capacity in milk during a misguided attempt to reach 'sicko mode' and he now must spend his days trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle. We may never truly understand the Mamiya Takako no Shoushitsu.

The album was a commercial failure during its debut that's why she quit and became a housewife. As good as it was and appreciated today it couldn't compete with the other artists of that time. The 80s was the golden era of music in Japan.
I have a strange feeling that she is watching this video and laughing as hell. Where the money of the new release goes? We need to track her down, someone in Japan?

That's a lesson about bigness vs greatness, if you create something with passion and enough care for detail, you'll likely be judged and silenced by the age you are committed to, but maybe in 40 years you might become a God to those who are sensible and prepared to understand the things you saw. It's never a size matter. "Confundir lo grandote con lo grandioso" (J. Ibargüengoitia).
According to a Korean RUclipsr, Mamiya is alive and well, and retired after the release of her 1982 album Love Trip. The RUclipsr says that Mamiya married and changed her name, and then faded from the public eye. Former Kitty Records director Shiina Kazuo also confirmed that Mamiya is alive.
I haven’t heard this album beforehand, (I feel disappointed in myself for confessing that) but now I’m interested in listening to it due to its calming tone and vocal atmosphere!
Citypop is by far my favourite genre of music, and this album is definitely in the top 3, if not my favourite overall. It's a shame she didn't bring out more music, but I guess she didn't really need to
I read somewhere that she made a cooking blog years ago until someone find out who she was and the blog disappear. There's also a crazy theory that the real singer is Taeko Onuki and the record label only use the name and image of Takako for commercial reasons. Some people say she's living in Tokyo as a happy housewife.Who knows...
I'm into city Pop because of a tumblr post of a swimming Isopod set to Tatsuro Yamashita's song Sparkle, though, I was already into 80's pop since about 2014. That Isopod broadened my senses.
if u want a true japanese city pop mystery, just look up keiko yoshinaga. she is an underrated singer who created the chatran (milo & otis in non-japanese countries) movie's soundtrack. her singing is also adorable. just check out the independant album she was a part of, Oshare TV.
I mean is she actually vanished or just left the industry because the cloud around takako has been growing for about 10 years on the internet and longer in Japan feel free to link any of her tracks if you want

There is a one answer only to what happened to him: The album is no longer available at Spotify and Apple Music due the conflicts with Takako Mamiya's relatives. However it is alive on other platforms, especially at VK, Yandex Music and RUclips.
City pop is essentially Japanese groove funk with emphasis on saxophone leads. So big band with lesser band? Lmao sounds stupid, I know. Anyways Mamiya is new to me. Thanks for the video. Im going to look her up.
There's another city pop mystery. It is the song "In The Distance" by Tetsuo Sakurai. The original creator, Yasuko Endo, sadly passed away. Her original copy was never printed or something like that. It is definitely a very intriguing mystery in the citypop community
Since it’s on streaming services, it’s not really official, it’s pirated and sourced from that RUclips vinyl rip video, if it was to be officially licensed then they should’ve used the 2012 remastered cd on streaming services for better sound quality. Pirating is against the law.
🌟🌠🌟🌠This album is one of my top favourite albums. I disvovered it in 2017 when I was looking for music that could gave me sailor moon / city hunter / Lynn Mimmay vibes . It's what got me into City pop. It's what inspires me to draw. There is not even a single song from this album that I don't like. It is PERFECTION yet so underrated . Thank you Mamiya-san for gifting us with this beautiful work of art❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥......Btw, the aesthetics of the album are also on point * cheff kiss*❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥 .. I wish City Pop and old style anime make soon a come back and stay mainstream for ever 🌟🌠🌟🌠
This reminds me of a character from Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami named Saeki (Relatively Minor Spoilers) She basically got into the music industry, made one (fictional) massively popular single in the late 60s and dipped because of events in her life I can't reveal because of spoilers The song is described as having weirdly advanced chord progressions and musicianship and surrealist lyrics uncharacteristic to a Japanese pop album After she left the industry, she went missing for like 20 years, living as a librarian in an obscure Japanese town. Maybe our city pop maiden is a librarian?
Maybe, I do know the taboo in Japan at the time was that women were expected to settle down at some point and maybe takako wasn't big on the world of pop music she never hit it big at the time and all that
I often think the same about Akimoto Kaoru. Although Kaoru's case is a little less mysterious as she made other contributions and small singles/tracks after her magnum opus Cologne (to me, the greatest album of city pop, yeah big statement!). To me, Cologne makes the whole 80s Japan-neon-night-themed nostalgia vibe hit like nothing else in city pop. The use of synths is out of this world. When I first heard Dress Down in MACROSS 82-99 track 『82.99 F.M』back in 2014 I was sent into another dimension. I still am today tbh. Keep it up! It would be nice to see some insight into some Kaoru's tracks!
I literally never enjoy every song in 1 album before. Like seriously, everytime it just 1 or maybe 2 great song in 1 album in my opinion. But Love Trip is different. I love all of them except "morning flight" but i can still enjoy it regardless. Even the great takako wont make it as great as the first album in her second. That's why she better just left us just this 1 wonderful album so she will always remembered as goddess of city pop.
IT's true at this point it's better left with the one and done approach, although it would be nice to know what happened , but I dealt reality is as interesting as the fiction
I have no idea ahahah it's Mr Yamashita not Mr Tatsuro (i think) Since her name is written in English it should follow English rules opposed to Japanese.
Maybe, she's among other celebrity hoaxes like Michael Jackson. Takako could just be hiding from the spotlight and living a peaceful life somewhere in China, away from all the media, news and people. It's still pretty sad tho.
Jackie sings very well! You're not right here :) Maybe his earlier works are not that good though .. But give a listen to "Endless love" from Myth movie for example. He has a voice and a charm

hahaha I'm mostly poking fun at the man who is best selling musician in China, but i'd prefer if he did less english singing
@@Stevem Yeah, he's singing in his own language is much better.
yt recommended Takako to me and I needed to know more. Thanks for making this. :)
ときのよぶ.
I haven’t heard this album beforehand, (I feel disappointed in myself for confessing that) but now I’m interested in listening to it due to its calming tone and vocal atmosphere!
it's on youtube if you want a preview and they just repressed it at HMV japan
The whole album is fantastic and i will say it has some kind of feeling that's new but familiar at the same time.
Citypop is by far my favourite genre of music, and this album is definitely in the top 3, if not my favourite overall. It's a shame she didn't bring out more music, but I guess she didn't really need to
I love her album and I'm sad she didn't release another.
4:01 it's "Tatsuro Yamashita's band"
6:00 where did you get the full pic tho? Is it in good High quality?
She's unique as her voice is unique
I'm into city Pop because of a tumblr post of a swimming Isopod set to Tatsuro Yamashita's song Sparkle, though, I was already into 80's pop since about 2014. That Isopod broadened my senses.
if u want a true japanese city pop mystery, just look up keiko yoshinaga. she is an underrated singer who created the chatran (milo & otis in non-japanese countries) movie's soundtrack. her singing is also adorable. just check out the independant album she was a part of, Oshare TV.
I mean is she actually vanished or just left the industry because the cloud around takako has been growing for about 10 years on the internet and longer in Japan
feel free to link any of her tracks if you want
@@Stevem i rlly dont know, and she only worked on 2 albums in the same yr, so i think she might have left.

8:50 Now I’m getting “Serial Experiments Lain” vibes from this, thanks!
I can dig that , I was going for the classic noir but considering the topic it could go that way
That was honestly terrifying to hear thru headphones at the end !!!!!!
Mysteries can be spooky
This video's ending was hilarious haha, thank you for that... hope you're okay. RIP
This album is amazing. Where is it being sold on vinyl?
Hmv Japan so far , might be coming to Juno records too
I'll survive (maybe)
There is a one answer only to what happened to him: The album is no longer available at Spotify and Apple Music due the conflicts with Takako Mamiya's relatives. However it is alive on other platforms, especially at VK, Yandex Music and RUclips.
This is great, thank you so much!
5:58 yeah, surprisingly i discovered that yesterday and i was like: now why they gon' do that. That is so misplaced 💀😂
Takashi Shimizu, the director of The Grudge, would have been 10 years old when Love Trip came out, so I'm pretty sure it's not the same guy...
Nice video Steven.
Thanks Billy
Bro love the content, can you more of this with miki matsubara and taeko ohnuki
we'll see
City pop is essentially Japanese groove funk with emphasis on saxophone leads.
So big band with lesser band? Lmao sounds stupid, I know.
Anyways Mamiya is new to me. Thanks for the video. Im going to look her up.
Is there any difference from the 2nd & 3rd pressing along with the new 2020 vinyl pressing?
Do you have the link to the video where they say Takako is god?
e x c l u s i v e c o n t e n t (check out Zen Huxtable's channel though)
bro wtf i had to search your channel for an hour because youtube made me forget you :(( glad i found you again :)))
Oh dear, YT's out to get me, if you type in miyazaki I'm pretty high on the results for that last I checked
It's up! Congrats!
Had to go to London so only now fixing everything will try and make sure the video is in good standing by the end of the weekend
@@Stevem The grudge took you to London
@@DennisPulido right to the manga exhibition
There's another city pop mystery. It is the song "In The Distance" by Tetsuo Sakurai. The original creator, Yasuko Endo, sadly passed away. Her original copy was never printed or something like that. It is definitely a very intriguing mystery in the citypop community
So did Yasuko Endo ever record a version or ?
@@Stevem She did. After her death, her company stopped all printing of her song. Some people say the song is still out there.
@@TumidOfficial maybe one day someone will find a copy
Heeeeey shoutout to Zen Huxtable.
good shit man
Please can someone give me the English lyrics to "One More Night"?
her album got removed from spotify ?
Since it’s on streaming services, it’s not really official, it’s pirated and sourced from that RUclips vinyl rip video, if it was to be officially licensed then they should’ve used the 2012 remastered cd on streaming services for better sound quality.
Pirating is against the law.
@@GabrielMartinez-pe6ln The entire album is on Spotify and RUclips now officially and you're correct as they used the 2012 remastering for it.
You are a very special person if you listen to city pop I LOVE YOU
What about... ehem, Naoko Gushima...
🥺🥺🥺
I've read people say the second half of Love Trip is lack luster compared to the first. Completely disagree. The album is a banger, front to back.
find anything else out since then? I've been trying my damnedest to find out if she's even ALIVE or not.
some people have claimed that she died but didn't hand over any evidence so not much has came out really
OH I LOLVE TAKAKO MAMIYA!! i was so close to buying that vinyl but im b r o k e
F
I was thinking of getting it but we'll see its pricey
Get the 2012 CD release from Tower Records Japan.
It's not Vinyl record but it also won't make you broke.
5:58 where can I get that sound effect?
Whatever Happened to Mai Yamane?
She’s still alive, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mai_Yamane
do you guys have info on Kouzou Mori?
This reminds me of a character from Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami named Saeki
(Relatively Minor Spoilers)
She basically got into the music industry, made one (fictional) massively popular single in the late 60s and dipped because of events in her life I can't reveal because of spoilers
The song is described as having weirdly advanced chord progressions and musicianship and surrealist lyrics uncharacteristic to a Japanese pop album
After she left the industry, she went missing for like 20 years, living as a librarian in an obscure Japanese town.
Maybe our city pop maiden is a librarian?
Maybe, I do know the taboo in Japan at the time was that women were expected to settle down at some point and maybe takako wasn't big on the world of pop music she never hit it big at the time and all that
So glad they showed Tatsuro Yamashita in here
I often think the same about Akimoto Kaoru.
In the future I plan to do a more vlog style series on a ton of japanese artists it could come up, I know the album
She's alive and well, look for her on instagram. How about Shambara? Akimoto and Miss Kokubu togheter...dammmmmnnn
@@matiassuarez8577 wow! didn't know she had Instagram, thanks!!
Same with Tohoku Shinkansen, they only released one album and then dissapear from the music (at least being a duo) :( sad
And yes, Thru Traffic and Love Trip are some of my favorites in the genre xD
Where is she now? I wonder
good start, rambling end
Can you do a video like this, but about kaoru akimoto
japan old nostalgia from a time i was a kid is bether than real life
I literally never enjoy every song in 1 album before.
1:10 I see what you did there
Cassiopéia… Noemi know why game freak used that name on the new Pokémon violet and Scarlett
5:30 I did'nt realize Mr. Jackie Charm had a singing career, all I know was he also had a COSPLAY career. 💎🤨😏
ruclips.net/video/Ry8dkE9kSX8/видео.html This one's my favourite track from him.
capitalism made us all depressed but at least we got some good music out of it
Right? We should all go back to becoming dirt farmers and hopefully not starve to death. Good times.
Could you do a "Whatever happened to Mai Yamane?"
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mai_Yamane
I miss her
My favorite song she made is morning flight
Actually, funny enough, I listen to city pop because it makes me feel happy, and for studying lol
すごいなあ。ちゃんと解説されてる!!
Lol at the end
Isn't it Ms. Takako? I think the given name is second in Japanese names.
I have no idea ahahah it's Mr Yamashita not Mr Tatsuro (i think)
Since her name is written in English it should follow English rules opposed to Japanese.
Can't believe he died. :(
RIP stevem
Jackie Chan's High upon High and Lorelie are great songs, not as great as takako but still
Lorelei is alright but not to fond of high upon high personally
are there musics videos??? please someone helppp
no official ones
Lmao at bottom left of the album cover.
Jackie Chan love me is a city pop epic
