I never comment on RUclips videos... but the way they took advantage of her is unacceptable. It's insane to think that at the time of this video she was a contemporary of Britney Spears. Fiona is a true artist, a la Anne Carson, a la Toni Morrison, a la any artist who can write. We are lucky to have her and her voice. Even as she ages, she will still have her ability to sing and write. The Idler Wheel... was the best album of its year. Looking forward to what she puts out next.
anyone else notice how uncomfortable the reporter gets at the end when she asks about fiona's experience with psychiatry? it's sad that mental health has been stigmatized for so long. we will only continue to stigmatize therapy until we become aware of the ways we contribute to that connotation; like crossing the arms and becoming tense when the topic arises. why become tense? can we at least be honest about how the topic makes us personally feel? fiona apple is such a great example of how we can be raw and real with each other and not have to feel threatened in any way. its all about learning about yourself and respecting another's journey as well.
If Fiona wasn't famous, I would fall in love with her. Sadly, she still wouldn't have anything to do with me. I can dream though. My lord she is an amazing lady.
You can still fall in love with her, even though she is 'famous'. I fell in love with her when I heard her first album 'Tidal', watched her perform and heard her speak. She is a dream girl though for sure - fulfills all the criteria I could ever want in a woman.
But on a lighter note .The fact that she's an outspoken feminist, reclusive,an overthinker and intense is what I find appealing about her.But I'm over an over 40 hippy who appreciates women who know who they are and what they love and hate.To me it's a clearly defined set of personalities and perimeters that you would either love or hate.My guess and it's only a guess because I dont know the woman is she doesn't suffer fools lightly .
I wouldn't ask her about her personal problems on live TV : / I know that was the journalists job but ouch. I don't think she would like it if someone asked her about her issues.
I love Fiona Apple but the lyric "Its a sad sad world when a girl can break a boy just because she can" It would be more realistic if she said "when a boy could break a girl just because he can" just my writers critique! I love you Fiona!😀❤
I have wondered if maybe the lyric started out as that and then she swapped it around, just because thats the kind of thing Fiona would do - break down the gender based cliches.
I think it's very purposeful and would not be nearly as meaningful the way you suggest :) I think she's telling a story about a woman with a high sex drive, but the society and men around her make her feel guilty about her sexuality and place her on a pedestal, as if she's expected to behave in a modest way, but at the same time be the object of desire and lust for men. They're chastising her and trying to control her with shame, but ironically give her great power over men through seduction, hence she's a "bad girl", that could control men with her sexuality, if she so wills. A woman battling with the conflict of her identity, sexuality, and the hypocrisy, sexism and slut-shaming in the world, basically :)
Your viewpoint is strange. Why would it be 'more realistic' to swop the genders around? It can certainly be the case the way Fiona sings it - it's not always a boy who 'breaks a girl' so to speak.
To be so talented, intelligent AND utterly beautiful... it's difficult to comprehend! Fiona is one of the greatest singers/songwriters of all time.
Beautifully said❣️ I saw her in concert and was completely enthralled! She enraptured me 💞

Actually, Spears was unknown in '97 and her debut album was released 2 years later.
great reference - Anne Carson, stupendously gifted poet.
Please take me back to the 90s.
Jessica K, The 80s were also not bad
@@paperlateful Boy, you never knew the 70s !

Muchas mujeres son maduras por que se aprovechan de ellas, pero ella no solo es sabia es muyy inteligente
First time i heard her i went out and bought 2am cds. Got them all now

awesome
9:55 Well, OK, you're wise beyond most people who are 19.
Remember a tv performance of this with her at the grand piano. Hittin them chords. Such a voice from her innocent lookin doe eyes.
+Raymond Jokerst You said she was singing Criminal also while playing piano? Never seen her perform the song like that...
J P she is classically trained
wow. that's a good answer. she's really bright
she's fucking awesome and beautful. I'd fall in love with this girl for sure...

Thanks for this!
She’s a great talent and this was sped up so she had to adjust her usually more soulful versions I think the drummer got carried away She’s fantastic

They're rushing
most definitely. i'm forced to wonder if that very fact is the reason this is the only place i've seen that drummer behind her (;
fiona apple = angelina jolie. holy crap.
Except Fiona has talent.
+Philippe Mellado jolie has talent lmao they do very different things
Jolie is talented but she is too careless about her acting career.
Art Trivia let us not compare her to that woman. You can hate Angelina but from a financial point, there is no comparison.
Ghost I honestly think Fiona is more atractive than Angelina
great maravilha
Heck, I was 17 then!
She was 19 here.
Who cares?

Alanis Morissette is nothing compared to Fiona Apple. Fiona is on another level.

It works both ways but the theme songs is she cheated on her man, so Im sure she meant it the way she wrote it

whizzard blizzard her music much more hard than spears
