Your right a good pilot would check the landing area for obstructions first. A cross wind could easily blow you into that pole. He also should be looking out both sides of the airplane.

Just so you all don't worry, the cow was fine, it got back up after and was perfectly fine, The tip of the wing just clipped it, half of the fall was it trying to get down.
@TheLordMilton I think you should read diymedia comment above mate, he saw the cow and did his best to hop over it and most likely saved the cows life, you don't get many options when you have engine failure right after take off.
