For those taking shots about what a terrible president Jimmy Carter was -this is a dying man, not a dying president. Only 4 of his 98 years were spent as president; I hope people will remember the other 94 years of his life. He is an ordinary man who has served humanity with compassion.
I'm a Republican who didn't vote for him but I do respect the man and wish him well. I'm glad he is doing home hospice care where he'll be comfortable and surrounded by his family and loved ones. Passing away in a hospital is cold and impersonal even with a caring staff. I think this will be easier on his family, too, where they'll be able to grieve in private away from the prying lens of the media.

One of my favorite people (along with Rev Billy Graham and Mr Fred Rogers). In 1994 Mr Jimmy Carter said "I have One life and One chance to make it count for something........My faith demands that I do what ever I can, where ever I am, when ever I can, for as long as I can, with what ever I have, to try to make a difference". His inspiring statement has kept me going strong helping others. Praying peace and compassion for him and his family, AMEN. Jimmy Carter is a fantastic person, he has spent his life for human rights. He founded the Carter Center which operates in many fields, such as medicine, education and peace. He is committed to eradicating many diseases, he is against war, against the death penalty, he builds homes for the homeless, he is a philanthropist, he does volunteer work and many other things. Jimmy Carter was President while I was in high school, at the very beginning of my political awareness. By the time I'd graduated and entered the US Army, Reagan was in office and he was the first POTUS I actually voted for. I didn't like Carter's Presidency, but I cannot find it in my heart to think poorly of the man. He had a valiant record as a submariner in the Pacific in War Two. He made peace between two nations, Israel and Egypt, that had been at each other's throats just 4 years before [the 1973 Yom Kippur War], and he made a clear and transparent effort to be a moral and ethical politician - - something most people rightly believe is impossible. I've said this privately and I'll say it publicly here: whoever it was that came up with phrase of 'a proper Southern Christian gentleman' must have had Jimmy Carter in mind. The man has done more for the people of this country since he left office than most people do while they're in it. And here's the thing: I'm from the Pacific Northwest, a Yankee to the core, and I have serious issues with the Southern Baptist faith. But Jimmy Carter has walked the walk of his faith with the same authenticity and integrity as Billy Graham or Pope Francis. I did not like some of his policies as President, but that in no way diminishes my profound respect for Jimmy Carter the man. May merciful God ease your last days, Jimmy Carter. May you enter into the Mansions of the Lord to sit next to your family. It is said that our ancestors only loan us our names and we must return that name unsullied. This, sir, you have done. I hope that you, your family, your friends and your comrades will accept the respects and regrets of an old Cavalry corporal. A sincere tip of the Stetson to you, sir. I always liked and admired Jimmy Carter. At least he was sincere. He wasn't a hypocrite. Same with Bernie Sanders. I am not as left leaning as Bernie but at least he is sincere. More than you can say for the rest of them with a very few exceptions) Honesty makes everything else possible.

For those taking shots about what a terrible president Jimmy Carter was -this is a dying man, not a dying president. Only 4 of his 98 years were spent as president; I hope people will remember the other 94 years of his life. He is an ordinary man who has served humanity with compassion.
I'm a Republican who didn't vote for him but I do respect the man and wish him well. I'm glad he is doing home hospice care where he'll be comfortable and surrounded by his family and loved ones. Passing away in a hospital is cold and impersonal even with a caring staff. I think this will be easier on his family, too, where they'll be able to grieve in private away from the prying lens of the media.

In 1994 Mr Jimmy Carter said "I have One life and One chance to make it count for something........My faith demands that I do what ever I can, where ever I am, when ever I can, for as long as I can, with what ever I have, to try to make a difference". His inspiring statement has kept me going strong helping others. Praying peace and compassion for him and his family, AMEN. Jimmy Carter was President while I was in high school, at the very beginning of my political awareness. By the time I'd graduated and entered the US Army, Reagan was in office and he was the first POTUS I actually voted for.
I didn't like Carter's Presidency, but I cannot find it in my heart to think poorly of the man. He had a valiant record as a submariner in the Pacific in War Two. He made peace between two nations, Israel and Egypt, that had been at each other's throats just 4 years before [the 1973 Yom Kippur War], and he made a clear and transparent effort to be a moral and ethical politician - - something most people rightly believe is impossible.
I've said this privately and I'll say it publicly here: whoever it was that came up with phrase of 'a proper Southern Christian gentleman' must have had Jimmy Carter in mind. The man has done more for the people of this country since he left office than most people do while they're in it. And here's the thing: I'm from the Pacific Northwest, a Yankee to the core, and I have serious issues with the Southern Baptist faith. But Jimmy Carter has walked the walk of his faith with the same authenticity and integrity as Billy Graham or Pope Francis. I did not like some of his policies as President, but that in no way diminishes my profound respect for Jimmy Carter the man.
May merciful God ease your last days, Jimmy Carter. May you enter into the Mansions of the Lord to sit next to your family. It is said that our ancestors only loan us our names and we must return that name unsullied. This, sir, you have done.

I always liked and admired Jimmy Carter. At least he was sincere. He wasn't a hypocrite. Same with Bernie Sanders. I am not as left leaning as Bernie but at least he is sincere. More than you can say for the rest of them with a very few exceptions) Honesty makes everything else possible.
