Kevin Gray strikes again! Those Blakey and Hutcherson releases look beautiful. Would love to have those cards too! Great episode as usual. Thanks for posting!
Definitely enjoy you offering a preview of coming releases. I pre-ordered the Ornette Coleman box as soon as I saw it (Blue Note were late to show it on their site, it was well after other retailers had offered it). Really easy to miss upcoming items, and you have good taste so I'm interested to see what you're excited about! My Blue Note Review Vol. 2 box should be on its way to me soon, glad to hear the LPs have such high production values. For me, it's *almost* worth the price for the Bobby Hutcherson LP alone.
I love the idea of mentioning upcoming releases! As you say, you can become overwhelmed and miss some amazing records that are limited to small numbers
I like the "coming attractions" as part of the videos. I am, however, missing the monthly VMP reviews and the occasional Turntable Favorites. Those are fun but I like all your videos, so regardless, please keep 'em coming!
I enjoyed the format, Michael. I think it works well. I obtained both Blue Note Review box sets when they were initially released and by coincidence I’m relistening to the first edition! The weakness of the first release was that aside from the Review album there was only one other LP, which was digitally sourced. (Apologies, I’m having a senior moment and have blanked on the album… plus the cat has just settled on my knee and so I better not shift to check it out!) It’s still enjoyable and beautifully packaged, even though it was part of a learning curve for Blue Note. Initially the BNR was supposed to be a bi-annual release, but I guess the Tone Poet and Classic series has rightly taken precedent… and in theory provides access to all these lovely pressings who want them. Due to Xmas, New Year and timing of other half’s birthday and resulting financial deprivation, I was trying my best to undertake a spell of austerity and forget the temptation of Ornette Coleman. I think my endeavours of self deprivation are doomed to fail.
Nice video, Michael! I’m definitely in favor of more preview videos. The Bobby Hutcherson and Art Blakey LPs included in the “Spirit & Time” that were produced and mastered by Joe Harley and Kevin Gray, respectively, predate the Tone Poet series. They may have been a practice run or a way to promote the then-upcoming Tone Poet series (or both).
I have both of the Blue Note subscription box sets and was also surprised (annoyed) about the paper inner sleeves. They seemed to have stopped the series now, maybe because they took so long to sell or because the focus moved to Tone Poet?
I ordered my Ornette Coleman box set last week, I'm sure it will sell out quickly like the Lee Morgan set did. I believe the lp's in the Spirit And Time box set will only be available in that box set.
Most of the jackets are just fine even after 40 years on most of the records. I would also add these so-called hi-class packaging they do are not passing always the test of time (I take them broken from the plastic bag directly!). I can give many-many examples (mofi, ap, less on BN). Emphasizing the factory process may be useful, but when you put them next to originals we may have surprises. 180g or not. I am saying all these because many times I am curious about the record review and its recording, tbh. But probably this is not really the scope of the channel maybe. Still, I see too much hype on how small some batch of records is. This should be about finds and reviews of the records imho, not really making people feel like they missed the deal of their life. Vinyl will keep being pressed, Michael. What we don’t get this year will be gotten in a year or two. Happy holidays to everyone this month! Cheers, peace! 🍾🥂
I was looking at this box set. Thanks for the review. Great stuff. I should have my Classic releases to me the wee as I ordered them directly from Blue Note. Now what’s left to do is preorder the next two Classic releases and the mega Tone poet release.
I didn't realize that the Spirit & Time boxset was still available! I got mine back when it came out. The first volume "Love and Fishing" was also fantastic. I'm happy to have them both. I wish they'd announce volume 3! Once you purchase a volume, you're first in line for the next edition, so you'll be sure to get one if you want it.
The Spirit in Time box is part of the "Blue Note Review" series. They did two volumes, but have not put out volume 3 yet. I hope they continue the series. Do you have volume 1--Peace, Love and Fishing?
Such a shame that Patterns is only available as part of this box. Likewise the Ornette Coleman 6 LP box is somewhat frustrating too as I’m not familiar with the artist and don’t want to spend the high price for this box set. I wish that Blue Note would make these albums available individually. I really hope this is not going to become the norm for future releases. Thanks for the video Michael
Michel, I do not see anywhere that the Ornette Box is numbered or limited. Not on the Blue Note site and not on the Amazon links you provided. So maybe it is like the regular Tone Poet releases?
I am a subscriber to the blue note review series I recently contacted them to when the third one was coming out their customer service rep Jenna said they did not have record of my subscription I had to send them pictures of the two sets I have emailed them 4 times now without any response so who knows these box sets might be done. It looks like the one you showed was still available
Yes please always mention upcoming releases. Thanks!
Wonderful! 🤗💜♥️💜 sending love from Newcastle and Wales
Thanks for the heads up on the Ornette Coleman box set! I just pre-ordered it

Not fun when you find desired item wasn't on the new release list.
I love the idea of mentioning upcoming releases! As you say, you can become overwhelmed and miss some amazing records that are limited to small numbers
Thank you Michael. It is great idea to give forewarnings and recommendations on the coming releases
Great video as usual and Kevin can do no wrong well hopefully there are people in the wings to take over when Kevin's hearing has diminished.
I like the "coming attractions" as part of the videos. I am, however, missing the monthly VMP reviews and the occasional Turntable Favorites. Those are fun but I like all your videos, so regardless, please keep 'em coming!
Agreed on all, Dan.
It was great to have videos about upcoming releases. Very good video Michael
Thank you for the upload, Michael. Very interesting.
Thanks Michael. Ordered the Ornette set, really looking forward to it.

Thank you for this!! This video is a great idea!!
You weren't kidding about that 6 pieces of silver. It sounds great.
I preordered as well, from Amazon because I didn’t want to miss out.
Yes, let us know when new stuff is announced!
Thanks Michael! Mine is on the way!
And again well done Michael 👍

No i do not have Part 1
Great Fuckity, I gotta get that Ornette Coleman boxed set. It'll got great with my Ornette Coleman Atlantic Years boxed set.
My wallet is saying no on the upcoming video idea but it's a definite yes from me

If only the pressed the Tone Poets and Classic Series on single tip on jackets without the barcode like these ones..
Some great stuff there
Love the baseball cards but with jazz stars
This boxset is missing in Blue Note New releases.
Michael, very good idea, you can call the new videos "45 rpm info"
The box is 5 lp ornette. 1 lp Jackie McLean.

How did I not hear about this Sprit & Time boxset?
i think threw a blue note newsletter
I just preordered the Ornette box!
I hope you used my link :-)
Got it from Blue Note domestic (US). But now I know it behooves me to use your links. ;)
:-)
Given the Spirit & Time is a 2018 release, where did you pick this up?
I am a subscriber to the blue note review series I recently contacted them to when the third one was coming out their customer service rep Jenna said they did not have record of my subscription I had to send them pictures of the two sets I have emailed them 4 times now without any response so who knows these box sets might be done.

Is the Ornette Coleman box set “limited and numbered” similar to the previous Lee Morgan box set?
Yes and its part of the Tone Poet Series Lawrence
Well now we know why the hiatus on the tone poets...
i think we will hear soon
👌👌
I hope they do the Ornette Coleman editions separately as well. I like the Live In Stockholm LPs, but I’m not so keen on the other releases.
Split the box set sell the ones you don’t like for a little cash back
Michael, I really want to meet the dogs...are they your listening buddies? Italian greyhounds?
Michael always listens with his dogs, who offer their response to a record before he completes a video!
Jazz baseball cards!
Vinyl brush , really ? A Cards ? It Must be a Jocke …
How many do they make of the Blue Note Review Box Sets?
1500 was what they said before the first one came out.
You mention this Boxset is limited.... Do you know the numbers they are pressing?
No i have no numbers
this box was issude in 2019, wasn't it: Is this a repress or why do you get it now?
they send me an newsletter if i remember correctly
@@Michael45RPM funny thing, as your number is lower than mine from 2019😉
I am the people who want to buy the Chet Baker Sings! Who’s got one? Also really want to get the ornette box. Someone tell me what to do
klick the link :-)
