I hate the kidnapping prank. Such a cruel thing to do to them. But as others have said it gets better in later episodes & I think the series overall is good! I am also glad RM spoke up to the company after this & told them nothing like the kidnapping prank ever again. That was so uncalled for.

I think some fans don't appreciate AHL that much because they only watched the content of the first two episodes and the boys had a hard time (they were in a country without knowing how to speak English, living with strangers and they had to clean and work hard) but what stands out the most about the show and i really appreciate is how they learn more about black culture and rap from actual black people, i think I've never seen idols from any group learning from black people about hip hop, and seeing rappers having black mentors. Oh and I've seen some people say that some of the people were intimidating but I honestly feel that it has r@cist and stereotypical connotations, I think most people treated the boys well, especially Tony

    • @evantesseract737
      @evantesseract737 Год назад +8

BTS is unfailingly respectful toward the Black roots of their music, too - you can see it in a lot of their American content. I'm sure AHL isn't the only reason for that, but it's got to be in the mix.

    • @taequilasilver7183
      @taequilasilver7183 Год назад +9

@@evantesseract737 totally, they (especially the rap line) grew up listening to hip hop and they understood that it is more than talking about s€x or how much money you have, i remember how a "rapper" from this famous girl group (blackpink) called Rihanna hip hop 💀 and she said hip hop it's about being cool and swag without adding anything more. I appreciate how BTS tell their own stories, how they have meaningful lyrics and pay tribute to rap artists in their songs (that's why i love hip hop lover)

You are not alone in being uncomfortable with this episode, and unfortunately, probably the next 1-2 episodes. There is a culture around taking pranks too far in shows like this. This was a very tough time for them to get through just because of the sheer amount of work that was being put on them in these two weeks. But they learned a lot, made valuable connections and some great friends, and were given a good opportunity to grow as artists and as people. The thing I admire about BTS the most is they learn well. They absorb stuff and actually listen and incorporate the things they have learned. It's quite the talent.

Hi! I moved from California to Germany for ten years and from Germany to Sweden for the last 25 years - I’m married to a Swedish man. Currently we live in a tiny village, population approximately 650 (YES! 650!), in the Swedish mountain area of Dalarna. Boy howdy, I can tell you the air is different! ALWAYS clean, fresh and invigorating. Today, January 14, 2023, we are experiencing a snow storm. Everything is beautiful! And because my husband and I live in an apartment, we don’t have to even think about shoveling snow. Even our car is plugged into a heater which keeps the engine and interior of the car warm, with the additional plus of melting most of the snow. We are 73 and 76 and thoroughly enjoying our retirement. Life is great!

It's only the 1st 2 episodes that are hard. When you watch ep2, you'll get mad again, but the person that you're going to hate, gets kicked off before the next episode so don't worry!
The kidnapping and the guy being a jerk in ep 2 (Dante) are the worst it gets, every other person is great. Tony Jones is still friends with Jimin or was years after. You can watch him guest on another reactor channel, where he reacts to BTS and talks a little about them. He's great.
They learn lessons out there, like life lessons not just music , that they still take to heart to this day. I know the 1st 2 are hard but I promise it's worth watching it all!
I think they set up the kidnapping and put them in a scarier part of town in a rental instead of a hotel because, a lot of rappers, like warren g and snoop, members of nwa, didn't come from good parts of town, it was dangerous. There are drive-by shootings by gangs in LA.
So I think, to help them understand the culture surrounding hip hop, they wanted to recreate that fear in a controlled environment. (Personally they could've thought up a better way to teach them about hip-hop struggle) everyone else you'll meet, they're all mostly great.
I think this is a great show to show their beginnings, so can see what influenced them and helped them. thank you for reacting 💜

We love Tony and he is genuine in his reactions with the guys.
And as for the kidnapping… I think like Bryan said, maybe it would sit better with a different audience? But maybe it’s difficult when you understand asian and korean cultures- the whole introductory/kidnapping/unable to speak for themselves as they can’t speak english is just wrong and scary. It doesn’t sit well in this specific context.

Like all others said, the first 2 episodes are aweful, and Coolio acted like a real ass... but it got better, and I think the members look back on it now as a valuable experience. Also while taping this show in LA during the daytime, the boys were recording their Album Dark & Wild during the night... so they barely got any sleep the whole time they were there, and used to crawl in a corner on the floor of the studio, to catch some hours of rest. But they were so young, innocent and eager and worked so hard.

I laughed when they performed in front of Coolio and you can tell he’s impressed and has to find a way to make it seem like they need to be “better”.
After learning more about Korean culture, you can see the cultural clashes. The guys never seemed to take anything personally. They just keep learning and working.

Thanks for starting this reaction - will be watching through this series. I remember watching this and I think it was good to watch but also really difficult… it shows some of the racism that the boys had to deal with, it gets some of the harsh treatment and belittling on camera and makes fans mad - part of the reason why we got Run BTS eventually. But the guys also got the chance to work with big names, learn new talents, prove themselves, and show their audience more of their authentic amazing selves and we appreciate everything they went through.

I actually really enjoy this show. I understand the problems and don't believe some things like the kidnapping scene were necessary; however I also hate how ARMY acts towards Coolio. They full-on disregard him informing them why Hiphop is so important to him, that it isn't a genre it's a culture, a lifestyle.
People get really mad a Coolio but he reminds me so much of my Uncle he basically told them hey if you don't know what something means then don't say it. Learn about the things you are portraying and in this year 2023, all I can say is BTS took all the lessons that were given to them during this experience and flourished they are so thoughtful and willing to step back and see beyond themselves it's been a pleasure to grow up with them I think people get so fixated on the opening of Coolio and forget how happy/proud he was of them when they showed that they actually went back and researched/provided the answers to his VERY IMPORTANT questions about Hip-hop History. He cheered, gave them Daps, and congratulated them every time they showcased that they understood where this Important part of his life came from. He did give them words of encouragement everyone just gets so wrapped up in the need to defend BTS they are adults (except Kookie) at this point they do not need to be infantilized, they needed to be educated. Not every teacher is the nicest in the world, but did you get the message at the end of the day? BTS got the message.

As someone in their 50's I actually understand Coolio. (And don't get me wrong I don't LIKE him I just UNDERSTAND him). The attitude he came in with is also a big part of who he is, how he grew up and what he went through in life. You would have to understand the era that he grew up in (the 70's and 80's) and remember these were not 'woke' times. Was he harsh - yes. Was he abusive (like Dante) NO! I am not trying to excuse his behavior. I am just pointing out that there are different people in the world with different circumstances and they can't all be sweet, kind and respectful no matter how much we wish for it. All we can do is demonstrate through our own actions that these things are possible and hopefully influence others in that aspect.
And if I'm being really honest I would say I like Coolio better than Warren G. Coolio might be aggressive and harsh but Warren G definitely gives me creepy 'wanna be in my video' vibes.

Ugh. These first few episodes of AHL still trigger me! There are still good people in this world, though. Shout out to Tony and Warren G for their kindness and sincerity. They pass the Army vibe test!

It gets better after the first 2 episodes.. I don’t know what their company was trying to do by the kidnapping scene.. was horrible. But I enjoyed the other episodes after second one.

Honest I didn’t like the first episode but it does get better. While I also don’t think he behavior was great I do also think this is reality tv (especially in the USA) it is easy to manipulate things. Also we need to be conscious of cultures coming together…🤷‍♀️ Besides the first episode I think it does get better and they all learn things (even from Coolio).

No, I did not agree with the kidnapping “prank” it was horrible and just plain mean. 🤬
Coolio was a complete asshole. No respect for him left.
The rest of the show is great! Keep watching! 😁💜

You forget what coolio said “I’m going to teach you guys the hard way” babying someone isn’t going to get them somewhere. The boys learned so many life lessens n things from him I appreciate that so much, rest in peace Coolio.

I don’t like the first episode the “kidnapping” was/is awful. As far as Coolio is concerned while I didn’t love some of his attitude I don’t really hate him. I think we have to realize that these are two cultures coming together (black American culture and Korean culture). Also that rap/hip pop is taken very seriously for people like Coolio where this was/is one of their only ways to live or “especially reality”. While I don’t think should have been treated as harshly they also had to learn the hip pop is a serious things for many people and is an “awakening” that it isn’t just about the coolness/swag. (From my understanding)…Also pls remember this is reality TV that can skew how things went down and also they probably made people or wanted people to act a certain way. I honestly think the members learned a lot (even from Coolio) and I appreciate how the members took on the trials and how they reacted. Idk just my opinion. Episode 2 is cringy but definitely not as bad as one or as bad as some people make it out to be (besides a few scenes and one guy). Just my opinion though

I know a lot of people hate watching the first episode, and I don't like it either, it is a little unsettling to watch. But that being said I highly doubt the boys didn't know something was going on. Kidnapping is illegal, having a company sign off on it doesn't make it legal, otherwise "model" companies would pop up all over the place using that as a legal loop hole to do human trafficking.
It would be a massive liability. Imagine if one of the boys had free out, grabbed something and stabbed one of the guys, killing them. Too much of a possible liability and with 1 or more if the boys being underage (a minor) the state of California which has no statute of limitations on Kidnapping would even to this day, hold a responsibility to charge everyone involved in it, unless of course they had signatures for the boys and the minors parents saying they knew this was going to happen.
Doing something illegal while pulling a prank does not make it legal.
I understand their contracts probably say they can't admit to knowing it was going to happen, but I just can't see a way for it to be legal for them to do it without the boys knowing, too much liability.
So, while the whole things was a bit uncomfortable and sad to watch I do feel it wasn't really that traumatic for the boys in real life, and that makes me feel better.

Dante gives u Headache in the next episodes i swear! I hate him so much! I feel sorry to Jin & Yoongi, they don't deserve to be treated like that. ☹️ Yoongi literally lost his patience for Dante when Dante mess up with Jin.

Personally I do think they went too far in the beginning. It was over the top and cruel given their level if English. However, it does get so much better and they gained genuine friendship along the way as well as skills. Although I also have issues with the idea by some of this being to 'Americanise' them. Yes it helped in many ways but I love them the way they are. Being Korean brings something else. It was good in respect of getting them more international known etc but they were doing so well, I think they would have done so anyway. Their level of commitment is so great. So, plusses and minuses but the later episodes are a better watch. 'ChimChim'

yeaah this show had some rough parts, that we all hate. Things calm down in the later episodes, and they at least do learn a lot from the whole show, but that first part... awful. In all, I think what they do learn about hip hop and the culture also helped to change their later musical direction. This show takes some wild turns to get there though.
