    I've started my day watching the other three 4-WAYS videos and got a lot from each seeing different tools and techniques. I've never thought of turning in reverse as you did inside the bead so I'll have to give that a go. It looks like 4-WAYS first project has achieved all you hoped for when you proposed it and we have four quite different boxes. Now for our next project which already has me thinking...

    • @tomislavtomasicwoodturning
      @tomislavtomasicwoodturning  Год назад +4

      Indeed Richard, its turning out more then hoped for, 4 really different boxes.... 4 different ways of making.... I'm glad you got something out of my video, we all learn and this 4 ways really set some brain cogs in motion with design which is my weak spot..... Your video is full of great info as always and really like the part with suptile epoxy color and how you make those indentations..... Can't wait to hear ideas for next monts project.....🤗

    Its my first time watching you turn, you are a true artisan with the tools. Turning in reverse, I have done that once using a bevel scraper for my chuck jaws with good success and will now have to try it with a chise, especially since I'm left handed. I like your use of color to add interest to the box, which would have been beautiful without the color. Lastly, as mentioned by another commentor, listening to the tool on the wood to detect roughest is a good idea.

    First-time viewer. I have learned more tips watching this video than I have learned from watching many other videos. I enjoy listening to you verbalize your thought process throughout the turning. This includes how you think through mistakes. Shows that even the proffesionals make mistakes and how you can recover from them. Also, I never thought of turning with my lathe running in reverse. I only did this during the sanding process. I have subscribed and will tune in often.

    This 4 ways project is a great idea. See my comment on Sam's 'page'. It's similar to our club competitions where they tell you what form is required and min/max dimensions. As with 4 ways it leaves the exact form, design, texture and colour to the individual turner. Great learning from watching you guys have a go at the challenges you set yourselves. My only question is this: When does a cross grain box become a bowl with a lid? Great work from you all. Thanks for sharing.

      @@tomislavtomasicwoodturning Interesting. Latest craft supplies video on turning a 'utility box' suggests that some might call it a 'lidded bowl'. When does a box become a bowl? When the producer says and the buyer agrees! I guess it's a matter of size and height.

    Томислав! Очень интересный формат. Все мастера, у всех прекрасные изделия. Я чпчу предложить задание. Представьте: Вы только что купили станок. Патрона у вас нет, есть три резца- мейсель, рейер со стандартной заточкой и отрезной. Есть полено полусухого дерева диаметр 10-12 см, длина - 20 см. Вы хотите сделать коробочку с крышкой. Это покажет как можно решать данную проблему новичку. Мне бы было очень интересно!
    Tomislav! A very interesting format. All masters, all have beautiful products. I'm offering a task. Imagine: You just bought a machine. You don't have a lathe chuck, there are three cutters- a meissel, a bowl gauge with a standard sharpening and a cut-off. There is a log of a semi-dry tree with a diameter of 10-12 cm, a length of 20 cm. You want to make a box with a lid. This will show how you can solve this problem for a beginner. I would be very interested!

    Hi Tom, A great video for a newcomer to watch. Love the commentary and seeing how each of you approach the project with different ideas, tools and techniques. Ive only been turning for about a year and ave been steadily increasing my tool collection. What was the scraper you were using 17 minutes into your video with the bulbous end? What is the advantage of it over a traditional scraper. You seem to be pivoting it in an arc using your thumb.

      Its standard scraper, single bevel but the shape is weird, it sort of more for small hollow forms thats why it stubby top, the radius on end was just right for inner curve and I pivot as much as I can since you get better curve ..... Hope I helped a bit
