  • This week I upgraded all my sprinkler heads in my front yard to use the Hunter MP Rotator Sprinkler heads. These sprinkler heads are wonderful and have helped me use less water, all while getting a better water for my grass.

You can aerate your lawn, the aeration holes will really improve the soils ability to absorb water as well as fertilizer.

I love my MP Rotators! I think that they're the finest heads on the market. I had a total system replacement done this year and I insisted upon the rotators. My installer put in the pressure-regulating bodies as well, since they operate best at 40 PSI, which is definitely a consideration for anyone considering switching to MPR. My lawn has never been happier!

My lawn has never been better! And watering is much more even as well! So much less runoff into the streets!

How do these jets get full coverage? For example if you set to spray out 10 feet distance... then how does it cover all of the area of the grass from zero to ten feet? Does each individual stream throw a difference distance to cover all of the area as it rotates? Thanks for the help.

I recently moved to a home that has Hunter, 10 zones. Each zone has 3-4 older heads, which I'm replacing.
Do these zones, now after these low flow rotators, have to spray zone-by-zone or can they all be used at once, or maybe grouped together on the timer to make 2 or 4 spray zones?
I also bought various colored lawn flags from Amazon and at first, I'll color code each zone and note the zone # by writing on the flag and making a map. I'll also measure between heads to choose the best rotator.
I had read somewhere that each head spray should reach the nearest heads, so I'll adjust each one until it hits the nearest flags.
Funny part is one sprinkler currently between homes and wooden fences sprays 360 degrees, but there's not much space between the fences. Maybe 8 feet. So that one sprays my lawn, up my fence, to the other part of lawn and theirs, and then up their fence into thei back yard lol. I laughed hard the first time I saw that.

I have kept mine one zone at a time (my controller does not let me run multiple I do not think), but pressure wise I bet I could. I have to water a LOT longer now to get the desired amount of water. If I was creating zones from scratch, I would have less zones in my hard.

So do you just run the sprinklers a bit longer then since these put out less water? I might need to get these to help with my lawn.

The next video is going to show me testing the sprinklers for how long they need to run. I just tested each station, ran for 15 min and calculated how long I need it to run to get 1/2" down. For me it was 75 min. I started doing that 2 days a week for an inch of water a week, but it started getting a bit dry, so I did 3 days and its looking good!
