I lost 65lbs in four months just by reducing carbs to only breakfast. Healthy ones at that, oatmeal, whole grains, fruits. Meat and veggies only for lunch and dinner. Lots if water. Excersize 5 days a week. Nothing crazy. No gym memberships. Pushups and running. Stuff you can do at home. Been life changing.

I had a major cerebellar stroke in 2013. Brain surgery, the whole 9 yards. After all this brain trauma, neuro fatigue is a major problem. I can't exercise 'cos I can't walk that far. I wanted to reduce the inflammation in my body so started keto in January 2020. To date (June 2021), my fatigue is way better, my energy levels are much higher, my skin is better. Plus, I happen to have lost 30kgs. I'm the lightest I've been since I was in my 20s. I'm now 63.

I’m 6’2 and in good shape with a 32 inch waist I’m 220. I got all the way up to 312 pounds despite working out 5 days a week and not eating what I thought was a decent diet. I couldn’t lose weight like I could in the past so in my efforts to figure out why I stumbled onto Dr Berg. I went hard full keto with a 21/3 fasting to eating schedule. In 5 months I lost over 100 pounds, after the first 30 days the weight melted off. Apparently I was pre diabetic with insulin resistance. Literally all of my health problems went away, my heart palpitations my swollen joints and joint pain, I slept better had more energy than I knew what to do with as well as a huge increase to my libido. Keto is legit and I feel that sugar is a poison and people eat far far too much.

Well I guess technically they're called palomas A paloma is squirt to killa lime juice and salt. But they don't make diet squirt anymore and I didn't want to drink anymore. So now I mix fresca which is sugar free lime juice and salt no tequila no sugar. I have one every night when I get home it's awesome. I also have a bone broth with it. That is my nightly ritual I don't miss the sugar I don't miss the booze because I've got this I've got another substance that's virtually calorie free.

Wether it be giving me tolerance for pain sensation, sleep, testosterone. Hell , i think it helped me with appetite, there’s so many shady substances out there that’s just a fat sloppy mess, substances that can put your entire way of life to shit, but weed is helpful in it’s own merit. I'm down 49 lbs. Started 28 August, 2017, at 220lbs. By 27 Nov 2017 I was down to 180 lbs, a pant size and a couple holes tighter on my belt. Less body fat (definitely noticeable). I slowed it down, and haven't been as strict through 2018, and hovered around 177. I've started intermittent fasting 16/8 and leaning keto in food choices, and I'm down to 170-171.
This mess is real and practically a miracle worker. Damn near everything can be traced back to what you put on the table.

There's nothing wrong with anecdotal evidence in addition to more rigorously gathered scientific evidence. You can be scientific and still discuss anecdotes and case studies. There isn't a scientific study on literally everything accounting for every possible variable, and things vary from person to person. It makes sense to take anecdotal evidence into account where documented experimentation may be lacking.

Best thing to do is finding the best meal plan for the day and repeating it over and over to start. Find something that gives what you need nutritionally and energy wise and eat that every day. So start with finding a good breakfast, lunch, and dinner that satisfies your cravings, gives you your necessary nutrients (which you can also find pills and supplements for). Track if it's giving you the recommended amount of minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium, etc and eat that everyday. Then add another meal plan after you get sick of that. And now you have two days worth of meals you can prepare and alternate every other day. Slowly add more and more until you finally have a whole week planned out and written down. Then life gets easy. It comes down to restocking the ingredients needed and fucking cooking it. Once you have done this it really helps you stay on course and away from donuts, bread, and other foods that are bad for you. Get your shit together

My GF’s doctor AND endocrinologist can’t give her a straight answer about her recently diagnosed “sub-clinical hypothyroidism”.
Nor will they refer her to a dietitian or nutritionist to help with dietary needs.
She has gained 30 pounds in the past two years, despite working out six days a week and watching her portion sizes.
She’s been put on various thyroid meds, and no drug or dosage helps with her fatigue, continuous weight gain and hair thinning.
She was looking into trying out the ketogenic diet, because she’s also insulin-resistant having an under active thyroid, and keto helps with people who have that issue, by lowering or eliminating the intake of bad refined carbs (anything from a packet or a box).
But then she heard that keto can put further strain on the thyroid and cause a whole host of other issues in the body. She also read that exercise can stress a hypothyroid body, further exacerbating symptoms.

At least it helps you feel not so alone. Also extended fasting has helped me lose weight during quarantine. Cutting out all sugar and carbs except for 90% dark chocolate and fruit / veg seems to help. Unfortunately we can't just eat less and exercise. It's a whole lifestyle adjustment. I don't know if I'll be able to keep this up when I go back to work but for now it's working. Good luck, hope she finds something that helps

You are 100% correct. When I can stay on meat and veggies with a random "cheat day", I feel so good.

While i am 100% onboard with keto, i wish people wouldn't be so judgmental and try to be the health police. It's about finding what works for YOUR body and what YOU will stick to consistently. Find a lifestyle that is healthy and sustainable and don't worry about anyone that says their way is better, as long as your way is HEALTHY and working for you and you feel good.

zParallaxz calories matter of course but it’s not that simple. The type of calories you eat do matter. 500 calories in fat and protein are going to last a lot longer in your body and give you a level amount of energy versus 500 calories of pasta which will give you a spike of energy then a crash when it’s over.

lorridzak I’m not talking about people who actually will learn about the difference between starches and proteins. I’m referring to the average joe or mom who keeps eating highly processed foods and snacks while not burning enough of the calories they consume. Balance is what has worked best for me. I found. I'm not a red meat eater. Not anymore. Super rare I'll have it. I'm more into chicken, salmon, other fish, eggs, veggies, fruits, etc. I try to control the carb. And I do feel best when I fast 2-4 times a week, whether for half a day, go very light that day or just go on water for a 1-2 days.
I mostly drink water. Zero sodas. Juicing and all natural once in while. Like frappe, love them, I control it.
The best you can do is always keep trying to eat healthy and what's best for you, your mind, and body.

Joe called it a roller coaster, I like to refer to it as the hamster wheel, but that’s what I was doing and what a lot of people do, and don’t even think about it. It’s so true, and that diet can not only kill you but at best make you feel sick, inflamed, depressed and here you are trying to figure out why. Why do I feel sick? Why does my entire body hurt? Why do I feel brain dead? Bingo!!!

People who are desperate to convince you they are right are usually WRONG. They know they are wrong, yet somehow that makes them more adamant about trying to convince you to follow them. The saying, Misery loves company, rings true.

Sugar story. Here the UK I went to an event at Dunster Castle in the southwest. Years ago there was ships coming into port with spoils from abroad mainly India, sugar was a high value import. The funny bit. Sugar was very expensive so the poor and working class couldn't afford it. Years later the royals and wealthy all had teeth issues. And the poor didn't. Yet they didn't see the connection and instead turned to letting which is when they believed it was a poison in the blood so they would bleed people and depending on their birth month depended on where they would be cut. Absolutely true. You ever noticed a traditional barber shop has white poles with red lines around ? Before the barber was cutting hair they where cutting people and the red lines on a white pole represents blood running down the pole. Nuts hey, while your here why don't I cut your hair. This is a breath of fresh air. I thought my morning crashes are caused by me being a night owl. I don’t get crashes when I’m not eating carbs for breakfast. Even a half-serving of brown rice in the morning is enough for a mild crash. A single fucking pancake will knock me out cold halfway before lunch. The only good thing about brown rice is that I don’t find it as appetizing, and end up eating less carbs overall. Days where I eat less carbs are overall better than carb rich days. Even my gut shrinks when I eat less carbs.

I appreciate the director's open minded approach. I'm not a vegetarian for health reasons but for ethical reasons so when j people reduce the argument for or against eating meat to health they miss a huge part of why so many people don't eat meat. Any diet where you are mindful of where the food comes from and what it does for your body is going to be better than one where you just mindlessly eat what tastes good in the moment.

I tried vegan for awhile for health and moral reasons, it eventually made me feel worse and I learned about how many animals are killed and displaced from all the plants I was eating anyway.. now I just try to find the most ethically raised animal products I can because factory farming of animals is horrendous

15:00 onwards. So I had black strap mollasses recently for the last 6 months, 1-2 table spoons a day. now i have been diagnozed with chronic kidney disease. im super accurate with my overall diet so could this be the sole reason? i have absolutely no other reason to blame.

We've been switching between keto and carnivore with occasional carb loads after a heavy lift day. It's amazing.

I've been for some years (especially since I moved from the states back to Europe) instinctively focsuing my eating habits on natural, whole, and unprocessed foods as much as possible. Sometimes I'm told I eat "boring", but the more I hear about actual dietary science the more it comforts me into what I've already been doing this whole time. Whenever I slip tho (damn you munchies) or am forced to eat industrial crap, the old sensations of feeling heavy, tired, moody etc come back in a blink, which I would not notice back then since I was feeling like shit all the time..

keto is good but whole foods, plant based is even better imo.
Carbs from vegetables are not bad. The blue zones all ate 80% of their calories from carbs in whole foods.
Meat is great but it's too much of a hassle for me to consistently get high quality farm raised meat. I don't buy factory farmed meat. Sardines are great but not necessary to consume all the time.

t3hgir it’s easier for most people to find farm animals than to do a plant based diet properly, just saying one is not better than the other based on subjective access to choices

Blue zones also had 8 other factors like your social life, spirituality and more that contributed to their longevity. Diet is just 1 of 9 factors.

This is for processed sugar. Carbs are essential for athletes that train for hours a day. Eating oatmeal, fruit and nut butters aren’t going to make you crash.

@@johnalcala The level of ignorance to say something like that. The human body evolved primarily using carbs as fuel in the form of fruits, veggies, AND whole grains (agriculture and shit). There's a reason your brain uses glucose, a sugar, as its primary means of fuel, and that you have blood sugar levels. Eating whole wheat bread is not going to give you an insulin spike and crash. White bread is. Carbs are not the enemy, refined carbs (fibres and other micronutrients removed) are. There's a difference.

It's simple. Either have a low carb diet with red meat, or a moderately high carb diet with no red meat. Both are effective. The low carb diet works a little bit better tho

I've just barely started eating healthier and working out on a regular basis and man.....even eliminating soda, fast food, and 75% of my junk food with some basic cardio. I feel better for the entire day and only once did I actually take a nap (which I rarely ever nap regardless). The hardest food so far to avoid is PIZZA, i frikkin love Pizza. lol I haven't eaten in a week and I'm going to plan on holding off for awhile before I do the occasional "cheat food" like a few slices of pepperoni pizza ha ha
Exercising is easy to make a routine of, but man changing your food habits is TOUGH

I can attest to this while I'm not 100% keto or even in ketosis I'm more with Joe of moderation, I cheat here and there but over all I've cut sugar probably 75% from before and carbs dramatically. My main sugar intake was absolutely from beverages and i've cut sugar to only small amounts in my food(non from beverages), carbs are way down, increased the amount of vegetable's, some fruit, cut dairy way down but mostly all whole foods and very little processed crap, no snacking because I'm not hungry between meals because I'm eating good so I'm only eating 3 meals a day. I'm down 25lbs which took me off the edge of being overweight, way more energy, joints feel better, sleeping way better.
