Fun fact: the guitarist, Anton Kabanen, founded Beast in Black after he was kicked out of the first band he started, Battle Beast. Also, one of the band's musical influences was Judas Priest lol
Kicked out might be a bit strong, but not completely wrong. From the wiki: in February 2015 the band parted ways with Anton Kabanen with both parties citing musical disagreements and other unsolvable issues within the band.
Their video "From Hell With Love" will really give you the Judas Priest/Ronnie James Dio feel but you can't go wrong with the next one you choose to do, they're yet to make a bad song
Just like Udo Dirkschneider, I don't think they are good vocalists, but the overall impression is good, This guy is very good and above other vocalists
About a year ago is when I began my own quest to discover and explore metal. Fired up a random playlist, and while most of it was decent, nothing really caught my interest until I hit this song. That chorus hit me like a truck. 😂
Awesome reaction! Really liked your take on how some of these bands, like Beast in Black as an example, really brings those wipes of ''Old'' Metal back. I kind of love it when it is fairly easy to place it that was have been their musical inspiration from the past. And I also love how many bands are bringing more and more other things to influence their music. With Beast in Black, most of their lyrics and even the bands name come from ''Berserk'' Manga (R.I.P Kentaro Miura) and I just love hearing songs about other things that I am really into. Band has some great bit more ''heavy'' songs too that you should check out as well as Yannis Papadopoulos (lead singer) fantastic cover to ''Ghost Love Score'' by Nightwish
I first discovered this band via RUclips algorithm only a couple weeks ago and I was sure it recommended an 80s metal band If never heard. I freakin’ love these guys.
Absolutely. Not just Highlander, but Flash Gordon too. I still sometimes wish for a movie about a barbarian with an 'axe' (guitar), riding his 'steed' (motorcycle) in a post apocalyptic world to a 'euro' style metal soundtrack.
ever seen the game Brutal Legend? ;) Not only had JackBlack voicing the main hero ( whowas based on his appearance too, but post apocalyptic diferent dimesnion world , lots of metal , guitar AND AXE and a STELLAR soundtrack , as well guest voiceover artists included Ozzy and Lemmy and Rob Halford... and if u go wikipedia and check the soundtrack list .....
Yeah, you're right about this not being all that shocking because in the 2st Century here, Metal has evolved so much since the 80s that there's always something in Metal for everyone now when in the past it was basically just Haid Metal, Thrash Metal, and Death Metal. While Power Metal has been around since the 80s with Helloween, Grave Digger, and Blind Guardian, it really didn't kick off strong until the late 90s with bands like HammerFall and Primal Fear. And then add top of that Symphonic Metal with all the female-fronted bands like Nightwish, Within Tempation, and Epica. So when you get Beast in Black using 80s synthetic sounds that Iron Maiden would be proud of, with a Falsetto vocalist, it's like, yeah...I can dig it.
Damn you, now all I can see is a bong.... that made me laugh more than it should have, thank you for that. Btw, regarding Nightwish.... I can't find that you're reacted to their version of Phantom of the Opera with Tarja from End of an era, you really ought to listen to that.
pretty sure you guys are already know this .... but just in case to remind you Yannis did vocals on little side project called "Warrior Path" with their selftitled debut Album back in 2019 just another showcase of his vocal range really cool band with some other great musicians from Greece definitly worth checking out
I think a big part of what you missed about how shocking some find this vidio is that if you just hear the song a lot of people assume it is a duet, because they aren't used to a singer having much range. And a big part of that is, assuming you are being literal about missing 15 years of metal, you missed a patch were a ton of artists, especially American ones, had been trained to sing wrong, by which I mean they were trained in such a way that they burn out there voice in a cupple years and never explore there full range, but during the ~4 years they *can* sing they are quite marketable. It was less an issue in metal, but its a big part of why a bunch of pop artist, especially the ones owned by the Mouse, suddenly stopped singing or radically changed they way they sing, and most of the really good bands anymore have lead singers that are trained in the old methods of singing, usually operatic
Concerto moon - Savior never cry. Another hidden gem with that old school metal sound. Mix of English and Japanese vocals. With more people would react to thisnone
Nice that you did a reaction to Beast in black. There are more good songs out there of them. I do like the "old school vibe" i get from them. Still waiting for their third album.
i really love their mix between power metal and 80/90 sync and thats uniqe to me! yannis voice is in the rope(one of kind) beast in black are the best at this moment!
You were right, it did take me down memory lane to the 70's and 80's. Is this band of the same quality and caliber? I dunno yet, but you reaction was on point and that is what I was here to see. Did I enjoy the story in the music and the video? Yeah it was alright and I'll keep watch for some of their other stuff to see how much I will like them. You overall reaction and commentary at the end were of course worth smashing that like button.
Cry out for a hero, No surrender and the cover from Motorhead Killed by death are great examples of that classic metal from Beast in black. Check those and you will see!!
Beast in Black harkens back to a lot of 80's era. After watching their youtube videos, I feel they are the metal version of ABBA. Lots of storytelling in their videos and lyrics, lots of synth and loots of catchy riffs and "sticky" melodies. And considering that the band is Finnish-Greek-Hungarian, I'd say the European feel is very correct. Good job!
Way, way back in the 70's there was a prog rock band called Pavlov's Dog. David Surkamp their lead could sing higher than Yannis in more of a Geddy Lee style. Check them out sometime.
And since this video never again Beast in Black? This song ist from their first album, the released a third one in 2021. How about Moonlight Rendezvous? 🙃 Or.. you like Nightwish... it's an eight years old cover, but Yannis did a "Ghost Love Score" cover and even sang together with Floor on the last Nightwish tour (2022), where BiB opened for NW.

"Half of you where thinking; "Is she gonna hit that bong, bro!"" 🤣🤣🤣 Really made me laugh out loud in the gym
Yep, 44 years of age, and this music speaks loud to me as a metalhead since my teens.
His name is Yannis Papadopoulos. He has done a few interesting covers including Ghost Love Score from Nightwish.
His covers are awesome!
His cover of Let it Go is the only way I'll listen to that song.
