Those shots were beautiful Val! Haha the tree was definitely testing your determination and you pushed on. Spectacular shots. I was surprised how good the mono looked especially against such beautiful colours. Well done Val! 😍 I am also very glad you listened to your gut that night. It's there to help us. Lucky cat hey, good little warning signal. 😻
Really appreciate the feedback Pia! 🙏🙏 It took me a while to listen to my gut! Cris was fuming I didn't leave straight away. I was fortunate to have the company of another photographer for a bit... But when he left, the weirdo freaked me out and I pretty much slung my tripod over my shoulder and bolted for the car! 😄 Yes, good perspective on the black cat...
My goodness you had some challenges! Love how you worked with them rather than against them. Stood you in good stead - and perhaps it was those challenges that the tree also used to help you gain some very beautiful images. Well done.
I did have to work for those photos! Just had to keep rolling with the punches! But it was lovely to be out there regardless. Appreciate your comments Denise, and hope you have a wonderful week ahead 😊🙏👍
A beautiful video Valerie. They say it comes in three's - the creepy guy at night, a nose bleed and damaged lens so you should be great for the rest of your trip !!! As a female photographer I always have eyes in the back of my head when anywhere in the wee' hours out in nature and alone.
Hi Judy, I think you're right - my bad run on my trip ended after that nose bleed! Spot on, we do need to think about safety more out there. It's great to hear from another female landscape photographer - not many of us out there! Many thanks for your comments 🙏🙏
I really should say 'Oh dear!" but all I can say is "Wow! And well done!". I think you met and trounced the challenges set before you and the results are just spectacular. Someone once said (Teddy Roosevelt I believe) that 'comparison is the thief of joy" so don't do it 🙏 If you are pleased with your images then so will other people , I for one are in that number. Have a great (and blood nose) free week V 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Izz, those are some wise words from Teddy and sound advice from you 🙏🙏 I couldn't agree more and didn't mean to imply unhealthy comparisons... What I should have expressed more clearly was the desire to find my own creativity and make an image that's a little unique and different to all those others floating out there. I guess really popular locations are saturated with photos and it may seem that every photo is the same as the next... But maybe that's the answer: no two photos will really ever be the same? Oh, this is all quite philosophical and my brain is a bit of mush right now 😅 Have a great week ahead Izz!
Perserverance paid off. Your photographs are so beautiful! I hope you are okay and im glad you still got the great shots despite it all. Please take care of yourself.
Thank you Sharyl - really appreciate your comments 🙏🙏 I think as long as I have a working camera and lens, I'll keep going 😅 It's really great to see female comments here...I was starting to believe YT stats that my viewers are 100% male! You take care and stay safe too.
Challenging!! Blood noses are a pain in the ...nose! I LOVE that image at 09:00. I kept thinking, how would this tree look if shot from far away with a long lens, through an opening in the trees on the shoreline? Or from your drone? There's two excuses to return! 🙂
😄 Thanks Peter, nothing short of blood, sweat and tears to do what I love! I think a long lens would have worked if the place wasn't crawling with photographers and tourists, and more water? Revisits are definitely a must! Hope you're having a good week 🙂 👍
@@ValerieMisaPhotography Yeah, continuing to shoot stills is one thing, but video, too?! That’s next level!! It sure is a beautiful location. Every week above ground is a great week! 😄

Wow Valerie good on you for persisting when so many things went against you. You poor thing , weirdo at night , nose bleeds and the lens damage. Great images from a stunning location. One of my friends even made a cameo in the background at the tree 😂 😲

Couldn't agree more. Sounds like a lovely Spring day you've got over there! Beautiful time of year to get out and about. I'm sure you're enjoying it Mark 😊
Hey Valerie, way to persevere with so much seemingly going wrong. I Watch out for the creeps. I saw someone else commented about carrying bear spray for the wildlife and the wild people. A small pepper spray may not be a bad idea when you’re out alone. I would love to see on your return trip someday that composition at 12:46, the one you missed. Funny that I was just telling you how I realized I missed an opportunity for a shot when I was editing B-roll for my last episode. 😣 beautiful B-roll shot though Valerie! 😆
Thanks and agree with you Shaun - will need some sort of spray (I think pepper sprays are illegal here) or alarm going forward. I'd never thought creep issues were a concern... But better safe than sorry! Haha yes, just like you it was upon reviewing B rolls that made I realised missed opportunities! All the benefits of B rolls... And I have hubby to thank for most of them on this trip! Hope you're a good week 🙂👍

Using my phone I got some nice early morning reflections on the lake of the trees on the bank though, from further back towards town. Yep always incentives to go back!
Many thanks Pieter 🙏🙏 I definitely do love Wanaka - it is a beautiful place. I'd really like to do astro there earlier in the season, when hopefully the Milky Way core is more front and centre, above Mt Aspiring. Yes, there's always a great reason to go back. But I suppose think about it this way: you didn't miss out on what you didn't know 😊 Your reflection photos made you happy then, and that's what matters 👍
Very true, the beauty of the place made up for a lot of imperfections in my phone pics. 🙂 Forgot to say the B&W is very nice. I'm doing more of those these days, want to get some nice architecture prints for my walls. Very good when conditions aren't great for colour pics. Yes I'd also like to experience NZ at different times of year👍☀️❄️🌈 maybe next year!

Been to NZ about 2 weeks ago and have to say that the Wanaka tree is the BIGGEST TOURIST TRAP in New Zealand. Naturally I was not expecting much as its just a tree on a lake - but whether its in the water or 4m away from the waters edge like we saw it doesnt matter. ITS A WASTE OF TIME..............................
I understand and respect your comments Craig. Our time is valuable and how we choose to spend it and whether we consider it to be time well spent is all very personal and subjective. That Wanaka Tree is iconic for a number of reasons, including its history and what it symbolises. So even if it may not be the most interesting of landscapes, there are other things to be appreciated. It's all about perspectives and for me, that wasn't a waste of time at all. Cheers 👍
