We raise another type of hair sheep here called the Katahdin. The Katahdin and the Dorper share that high meat quality because they both are hair sheep. Their coat sheds like a dog would and is not greasy or smelly. Hair sheep do not produce the lanolin (wool wax) that a wool sheep does. That lanolin production is what gives most lamb meat that "sheepy" smell and flavor. With both the Katahdin and Dorper meat you only have that rich delicious flavor and no after taste. Both breeds are wonderful mothers and easy to care for as well as being a top choice for your table. If you have never tried this type of lamb I highly recommend it!

Interesting even if I am not a meat eater. I adore sheep. I once owned Suffolk sheep.

Very cool. I have to stick to nut and fruit trees for now.
Livestock will have to wait until I retire. Somehow we have become a dog rescue farm.
A great video as always MR. S.

I love this! In the past I had a flock of Suffock sheep. Which, of course, had to be sheared. Later I had some tropical hair sheep. I enjoy sheep very much. Thank you for showing your Dorper sheep and all the residents on your fantastic farm. Best wishes to you.

In Dorper sheep is there genotype difference of homozygous and heterozygous.
Can all male and female have the genetics of producing twins and more lambs. What about FecB and FecX in Dorper, what precautions needed to take before purchasing male breeder. Please guide.

We have a serious coyote problem in Louisiana also. Sheep raising is almost impossible without guard animals.

What was the dog breed again, it was too loud and I couldn't make it out. As a kid we raised sheep and we had Collies and Border Collies.

Who doesn't love looking at a baby sheep. I was lucky enough to see tons of baby sheep last May in Ireland and England. It was baby season and very plentiful. I wonder if breeders will get to the point of not breeding for a food source?
