I bought it in my late 90's video hobbyist days. It only has 600 hours of use. This year I took it out of the box and tested it as an audio recorder. It's an audiophile deck. Note that not all hi-fi VHS recorders can match the performance of the AG-8700. For example, JVC's top domestic line-up, HM-DR10000, and HR-S9700, can't match it.

I have the same VCR. it is incredible how it records and plays back in hifi stereo mode...
