AcidBot66 Please? They are replacing the Tornado, a attack orient aircraft to a similar yet more productive Fighter/Attacker jet, bedsides they need at least one type of aircraft capable of carrying the B61 Air-launched Nuclear Bomb. There isn’t any pressure at all it just that those Eurofighter Typhoons are lacking within the Attack role and they chose an aircraft accordingly to plug that gap, Germany is still buying Typhoons but they are not shy on admitting that the Typhoon has it’s limit. There isn’t any pressure, it’s just common sense to replace something outdated with something similar in terms of role and usage.
AcidBot66 Old? The first Super Hornet came out around 1995 while Typhoon was 1994, by aircraft standards that is not old at all, aircraft can last 20+ years and still be considered not old. Besides, Germany is looking to get the latest model of Super Hornet Block 3, 2017 tech. For example, the first Iphone was release in 2007, now you wouldn’t exactly compare nor say that the current 2020 Iphone SE to be the same with the one from 2007 right? Things improve and things have something called VARIANTS As much as there is no enemy willing to nuke Germany, what’s wrong with a Nuclear Deterrent to prevent that Nuclear War. Also you talk like you represent Germany but in fact Germany itself is the one ordering those planes and not you, The Germans are smart indeed. I also forgot to mention that they are looking to buy 45 of the latest Super Hornet and packaged together with the EA-18 Growler Electronic Warfare Aircraft, a type of aircraft that they will lose if they retire the Tornado without looking for a replacement. They need these types of aircraft to plug the gap and ensure Germany can still stay peaceful. Again, they aren’t completely ditching local brands for something American, they are still ordering 90 more Eurofighter Typhoon adding more to their vast stockpile of local made planes. The one’s calling the shots are the German Ministry of Defense and not you so you can’t just say Germany doesn’t deserve or need those planes.
Arved Ludwig (Respond to your second comment) Yeah but oddly enough, its incompatible with the B61 Nuclear Bomb, which they specifically require to have at least one model of plane capable of launching it. Also I added more in my second comment regarding electronic warfare.
When I was stationed at Schofield Barracks (25th ID) the division had an Aussie Capt (not CPT as we in US Army abbreviate it) as an S-3 OIC (He was RAE running the Combat Engineer Bn S-3). Heck we even had an exchange program where a company of infantry (with attachments from arty, engr, MI, medics) would exchange with the same from Australia. Flew into Brisbane, trucked to Canagra (pretty sure I misspelled that) for jungle warfare, then to Liverpool (Holsworthy Barracks), and then was invited to Canberra, ACT by an Aussie reserve medic and his mother. A couple us took a bus from Sydney to Canberra. Sorry to mentioned this but we even did some clubbing in Kings Cross. :) The guys thought I was American Navy and surprised to hear I was US Army.
MR. KARATE The whole constitutional violations of president Wilson bind with the failings of our education system are kinda responsible.. Its a damn shame more German Americans don’t recognize their heritage, they have arguably had the largest impact of America.
Cole Ball What about them? We learn about them and spend an entire English class learning about them on top of history classes, and I find it great be it it’s our history. But we should learn transparently, especially considering Germans are the largest group in the US. You learn about Washington, but what about Von Steuben or all the German regiments that helped us win our independence. What about the fact that 10 percent of the union army during the civil war was made up of Americans who were born in Germany, with more American born German fighting on both sides. What about the Texas Deutsche, the Germans who settled the mid west and those who settled the North.. What about our culture that stems from theirs, like Christmas.. Simply due to a war we fought for the bankers and a propaganda campaign most Americans don’t even know they are German, much less their own history.. That’s all im saying..
Eh, An old account all the immigrants who come to America lose their cultural identity eventually, except Hispanics because more of them come over constantly.

I went to Holloman AFB in November 1995 for a border monitoring mission using our AH-64 Apaches from 3/101 Attack BN, Ft. Cambell KY. The Germans were flying F-4E's. I also enjoyed watching the stealth fighters and QF-106's.
It made sense from a German standpoint to practice here daily unhindered operations, however we will miss them. The Germans and the Brits in my American company are my favorite work friends, some I am still close with.
It was the same in Canada for immigrants from Europe in the 40's and 50's. When the Canadians turned their backs on us, the old enemies stuck together. Along with the Native Canadians and Metis, who were equally despised by the so called friendly Canucks. Name calling and getting beat up, was common, into the early 60's.
I can't believe the British quit flying these beautiful and very effective aircraft. I think they used the money to buy F-35s. I Knew the son of a former German POW who became an American citizen after WW2. The reason he gave is that " America is nothing at all like Germany"" People are free here." He also flew for the U.S. Air force in Korea. Certain Germans still have the real attitude that makes an American .

The same thing happened to communities in various countries, Germany included, all over the world when the US started shutting down overseas bases. Landlords who had rented to US servicemen and their families for decades, saw their livelihood dry up overnight.
I was stationed at Holloman 71-72 and I remember seeing the German pilots training there. they really like the weather, the large areas and bombing and gunnery range. there was a small community of Germans living there back then. I was always confused about their ranks. didn't know if I was saluting a German officer or NCO.
I had no idea we had a German base in the USA. I totally support this - I hate to see them go. Such a great ally. Wish the Germans would return. Bring over the British also.
Germany has just committed to a whole lot of F18 Super Hornets, so this makes sense. They’ve got to train somewhere and the American southwest is a great place to train over land without disturbing a lot of people.
Definitely not as a permanent deployment of fighter jets. The German Air Force (and Navy) had once 359 Panavia Tornados, the number of F-18s/EA-18s Germany is purchasing is only 45 thus really not enough for deploying them to the USA. Additionally Germany also buys 90 new Eurofighter Typhoons, some of them replace the oldest Typhoons which don’t have all the capabilities of the current versions. Of course German pilots still train in the USA with T-38 Talons and other training airplanes. The German Air Force also participates in exercises in the USA, e.g. this year 8 Eurofighter Typhoons and 8 Panavia Tornados participated in Red Flag at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

We worked with them on a daily basis when I was stationed at Fort Bliss in the 80s. Good people and always had a beer or two to trade.
Had Germans training at George AFB by Victorvile California back in the 1970s training on F-4 Phantoms they owned. My impression back then was they really liked their stay in the SW USA.
I was at George AFB from late 1978 to mid 1982 with the 561st TFS and remember the Germans flew German-owned F-4Es under the 20th TFTS. They wore the same paint and tail codes (GA) as the rest of the jets, except the 37th TFW Wild Weasels which had tail code "WW".
Good weather for an all year round training for German Air Force.
I'm sure they did since it's also fun for Americans to be stationed in Europe.
I think many people from other countries enjoy their time here. I have a friend who works at a steel cable manufacturing plant. The company is from Japan and the company rotates in the engineers from Japan every few years. My friend told me that the engineers will drive anywhere around the country when taking a vacation. The plant is in Northern Cal and these engineer will drive to Disney World in Florida. They drive to Chicago. They drive to Washington DC. One of the engineers told my friend that they have to do this as they don't know if they will get another chance to see the US like they do by driving around.
Things improve and things have something called VARIANTS
As much as there is no enemy willing to nuke Germany, what’s wrong with a Nuclear Deterrent to prevent that Nuclear War.

Now THIS would be wonderful!! Ein gutter Vorschlag; hoffentlich!
I think they should.
Well that actually is a great idea. The infrastructure is still there.
