- When Vicki recently got her new car, it was missing Apple CarPlay. The thing is, it can have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, however Audi wanted £300 just to activate it. The hardware is all there, it's just locked away in software. So after a spot of Googing I found TheNavMan - and he provides everything you need to bring the software in your car up to date - AND activate Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.
In this video I go through the whole process of upgrading the software, upgrading the maps, and activating Apple CarPlay.

I just had one additional step as my navigation had never been activated but Ben was amazing and told me what to do and what device would do it. Super easy too. Always bugged me having the navigation button that didn’t do anything but now it’s a sweet setup and you’d never know it didn’t roll out of the factory with it activated.

@@ilkanaydin9842 Hi, it’s pretty easy and you can buy a bundle from thenavman that not only activates carplay but also activates navigation and updates the virtual cockpit. To activate navigation you will need a device called OBDeleven pro or take it to your local garage that does vehicle coding. Thenavman will give you three lines of code to update your car that brings the toggle switch on your console to life and shows maps and navigation on your virtual cockpit.
As a non geek I took the plunge and ordered the digital version for my 2015 Audi TT. Takes some time to download but this video and the instructions are top notch. I used multiple cards to be safe and all worked fine. A couple of times in the green screen things just sat there which is eerie but eventually is updates. Thanks Kip and Ben from The Navman. Love my CarPlay and the TT already!

A very useful and informative video, thank you Kip. I have a 2017 TT with up to date navigation maps; what would be the benefit(s) of installing Apple CarPlay?
Just have proper access to your phone and apps in the car.. Messages can be read out, and responded to (via voice) as well being able to use and control your music app of choice. You can use Google Maps or Apple Maps and have live traffic updates too. All from the display in the car.
I really want this too. I also have a 17 plate with maps already. But want to be able to use my phone

just completed and just one note if your car doesn't have nav from the factory then there is a little bit of coding to do with obd eleven before it will display luckily i have obd eleven and support was great from navman, great video and made it easy to do this upgrade. obd eleven settings are
5F → Long Coding → Byte: 03 → Set to EU
5F → Long Coding → Byte: 24 → Bit: 2 → enable
17 → Long Coding → Byte: 10 → Bit: 6 → enable
Did youonly have to do this code or any extra? I feel like I need to activate carplay tab too.

Hey Kip, thanks for the video and the reference... How has ur experience been since you installed it? Now that you can use the Maps (on apple) or Google Maps, instead of the NAV from Audi, has that been smooth? I am having problems pulling the engineering menu up on my TT 2018 and I took version info images to send to navman from settings screen instead and waiting them to come back to me now, but I am also curious about the aftermath of installation and use. Has there been any issues since then? Is the interface, lag, input etc. as smooth as original Nav?
All works absolutely fine, no weird lag or anything.

I don’t know if it NEEDS to be. That’s how I did it and it worked fine. Regards format, I can’t remember off the top of my head.
The Kipster does it again! Seriously, it is a racket with these car manufacturers charging to unlock stuff that would have previously been standard!
In fairness, both navigation and carplay are software products that take non-negligible amounts of money to develop and license. This is different from ludicrous shit like BMWs heated seats subscription, which actually operates on hardware that's in your car, but you are not allowed to use it. On the contrary, navigation and carplay are software only, that happen run on the computer in your car (the Audi virtual cockpit is literally a linux PC you can SSH into).
IIRC, you actually install the software behind both navigation and carplay, much like you would on a desktop PC (only the integration software is there pre-installed, the one that creates the space and moves the MMI screens to your virtual cockpit). The price is another question altogether of course...

Hi, my Audi tt says no maps fitted. But you can add to this model apps. Do I need OBD11 to enable it?

For Apple car play & sat nav upgrades you can get a good deal with the various VAG Retrofit, situated around U.K. I was quoted £120 but would have to travel to either Luton or St.Albans which is around 70 miles, but they can do a digital download if you’re pc savvy.( which I’m not ) lol
My previous car a Mercedes I bought a maps upgrade from NavMan so I can vouch that it’s a great service & was at the time a lot cheaper at £80 versus £125 ( Mercedes ) for memory card which took around 35 minutes to download.

Hi mate, I've had my car remapped, do you know if activating these will affect that? Not sure if it'll change the software or something (i'm not a car person lol)

Hey i followed your instructions all the way but when i click on (Audi Smartphone) it wants me to switch over the connection manager and activate my phone there ??
I'd check your cable, some don't work well on it.
Did you get in the green menu before the update? Combination on my Audi tt 2015 don’t work. Can I unlock it somewhere else?
I’ve only shown what I did in my car, I can’t really help much more that what was shown.
Did you use the same sd card for the maps as for the poi and speed cameras

Did you have to plug your phone in. in order to use apple car play or does it support wireless car play/ android auto after the update process?
Doesn’t support wireless as standard.. you can buy generic dongles on Amazon that would allow it to work wirelessly
@@kiphakes Thank you I use one in my current car. I have been looking at the Audi TT but wasn't sure if I would find it to low to the ground or not. or what the road noise would be like when driving?

I did all the steps successfully and I still can’t seem to see the navigation icon and did you buy some add on to have car play available wirelessly?
Go back to the NavMan for support. And no I use mine wired.
Does this work for non-Technology Pack spec’d TTS models?

My Audi TT MK3 has carplay but probably a old owner did installation on it, because when it opens carplay the top icon on header is the settings one, so if i do R ( back camara ), the carplay menu disapear and dont return, it return to settings.
This will fix it?

By installing the Apple Car Play. Do you lose the maps and navigation in full display? Or you can always go back to the Audi Navigation system even with this update installed?

Hey Kip, I’m not able to pull up the engineering screens on mine. It’s a 2016 Audi TTS. Any idea what could be wrong?
UPDATE: I’ve figured out how to get to the red engineering screen but no luck on the green engineering screen yet.

Are you pushing both nav map and radio switches forwards for 3+ seconds?
@@justrobin1234I’ve done that and tried some other things. I will mention that mine is a US model. Don’t know if that changes anything but for the red engineering screen I have to navigate to the settings menu then hold the left and back keys while in that menu for the screen to pop up.

If anyone else gets stuck, checking there current version. Hold navigation and media up also hold center circle down for 3-5 seconds and it will reset as turning ignition off won't take you out of engineeringmode 🙄

I have a 2017 Audi Q2 with only one usb port, for charging only. Will I be able to install carplay on my old hardware. And will I ever be able to use it with only one charging usb?

I did all my updates and they went smoothly but I still don’t have CarPlay, I even saw it said it was activated in the green menu any idea what the issue could be?
I'd check with a different cable - some cables just seem very temperamental with CarPlay. If you have no luck, get in touch with The NavMan Support!

It didn't work for me either, what helped me was: in the configuration menu press the left button + the back button for 5 seconds, I saw it on a forum.
Step by step as you did, ttrs 2018, directions to a T, say CarPlay is on but doesn’t show CarPlay app or detection in my phone.
Any tips?
Try a different cable, if that doesn’t work, speak to the navman

I aborted installation, as the menu reposes are different to those of the paper instructions, and no response from The Navman which is disappointing.

Yh I'm having a little bit of a problem with mine as it's coming up with error 8 but founding it hard to get help so think thay are busey he did respond on a Sunday even no thay was not ment to so I'm sure he will get back to us when he has a minute but so frustrating
