    Just found this channel! Awesome video 🤙
    Super well edited and very informative!
    I do have one complaint though hahaha. I bet you did ride tech terrain on the bikes, but i would’ve loved to see that in the comparison. That is where those bikes really shine. You can have fun on any bike on “unemployment line”
    I feel like it’s very hard to actually test a full fledged Enduro bike on flow trails. But that is where most of them end up 😂

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад +8

      First off, thanks for watching Alex! I've been a fan of yours for a while. You're right that most enduro bikes end up on flow trails and we did do testing on technical terrain. The end results were very similar, but we both know you can't tell an enduro bike's full potential in a day, it takes multiple rides on various terrain. Overall, I'd still say the Wrecker comes out on top as the best all rounder (out of these 3), the sentinel is tough to beat on long decents (though it's longer wheelbase may hold it back in tight techier stuff), and the process' geo is more fit for a taller rider and I wouldn't want to run it as an all out enduro rig. Just my thoughts, hopefully that helps address your point a bit. Thanks for the feedback Alex and if you're ever in the PNW again hit me up!

    I know this is an older video, however....
    Regarding your comments on the "on top of the bike feel" with the Kona: I've seen other review videos comment that running slightly more sag on the Kona helped things. Do you think that maybe a slightly higher bar rise and a little more sag might have been a better setup for the Kona?

    Liked!! Strange..so its offic i gotta get on the new kona 29r. Rode the new 27.5, it was fun and snappy, bit didnt hold speed. The sentinel smashed all, and was pretty good clmbr imo. So if ur saying Kona 29r is better clmbr im super intrstd..but it cant be as good dh as sentinel, that thing was just...unreal

      You nailed it on the head Groffm! It's no where close to the downhill craziness of the Sentinel, but it does a great job! And, it has the best spec for the price IMO. Hope that helps, let me know what you decide to get and send a pic on insta when you get one!

    Test rode several bikes (pivot, intense,yeti)at the 16 Outerbike in Moab before throwing a leg over the wreckoning which at the time was a vendors personal bike. I remember being blown away at how well the bike climbed over that techy terrain and playful and nimble it was. Was able to pry it away from him on the spot.

    I'm currently about to buy an Ibis Ripmo or Ripmo AF... I'm also torn about which size to get, 5'10 as well with a 32" inseam. I ride South Mountain a lot in AZ, from 20 mile long cross country rides(Desert Classic), to steep technical chunky descents and climbs(National). I struggle with technical climbs, but that could be due to my current bike, 2014 27.5 Giant Trance Advanced, which has a 73* seat tube. What would you reccomend? I don't bomb hills necessarily, but I'm no turtle, I also really like popping off rocks and small jumps. Thank you in advance for any advice on my purchase!

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      It's not a good climber, but to it's credit, that's not what it was designed for. Watch my full review of the sentinel and you can hear more! As for the carbon...... I'm bummed they dropped it so quick. I know some dudes that bought the alloy one thinking it'd be a year for carbon. Now they're out 5k wishing they would have waited a few weeks!

    • @mariorock76

      Daily MTB Rider Ok. But is his handicapped uphill is caused by his geometry (64 ° ha) or his weight? Because it has one of the best seat angle of the category

    I just demo'ed a sentinel carbon and it was great. I think you need to revisit your test between your wreckoning vs the carbon sentinel. I personally think the wreckoning and sentinel are the best bikes i have demo'ed and I am 6'6". Ive tried the hd4, sb6,sb5.5, switchblade, firebird 29, HT LT, mach 6. Id like to try the smuggler but I dont think it will have enough travel for my 230lbs.

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад +1

      That's a great point Eckythump, it was in the low position (vs the Extra Low), and I'd agree that the different position would change it up to feel like the Sentinel. I'll have to check that out and let you know!

  • @grahamcowles2362
    @grahamcowles2362 7 лет назад +1

    I've spent a good amount of time on all three of these and while I agree with everything you said about them descending wise I had a very different experience with the climbing performance of the Sentinel and The Wreckoning.
    I found that despite the Wreckoning being the lightest of the three its pedaling performance was very underwhelming, with loads of pedal bob and with the slack seat angle putting your weight back over the rear axle. I also found that even though the Sentinel has a lot of weight to it the bike puts you in a very balanced and comfortable climbing position and its little bit less travel than the other two helps it firm up under power a bit more than the Wreck.
    But either way, great bikes and great videos man, keep it up!

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад +1

      Great feedback Graham! Yeah I’ve heard a lot of mix reviews on climbing abilities on all three of these bikes, so no harm there. Everyone I’ve talked to agrees though, the sentinel is one heck of a descender!

  • @chawkins45ify
    @chawkins45ify 7 лет назад +1

    The wreckoning is the 75% bike like you said. I own the wreckoning and have test ridden the sentinel and agree with you, the sentinel gives you a ton of confidence but the evil is a better all around bike and feels more playful. With an ohlins stx22 on the evil the climbing and descending is improved and with a coil dhx2 the descending goes to a whole new level

  •  7 лет назад +2

    Why is everyone so afraid to say how much a bike weighs. It plays a huge role in both climbing and descending.

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      I'll be honest with you doopy, I don't care much at all about weight but a lot of people do. And you are totally right, weight helps or hurts a bike in it's climbing and descending - but I think those things are more noticeable when you ride them than in a stat.

    • @katietrotter9374
      @katietrotter9374 7 лет назад +1

      disagree. weight distribution may play a role, but as @daily mtb rider said, its more noticeable when you ride than it is on paper. overall weight barely matters. does your bike ever feel super fast when your water bottle is empty? no, and a pound or two difference in these bikes is not going to make much of a difference either. plus, their all-mountain bikes. they're all heavy, they all climb slow. carbon frame with carbon wheels, doesn't matter, they'll still be stout and have a relatively active suspension with 1,000 gram tires that have a ton of rolling resistance. its 2018 no one cares about weight anymore.

    Great video, Josh! Being 6'6" I am having so much trouble finding I bike I sit "in" and not "on". What size bikes were these three? Any noticeable difference in reach and/or wheelbase between the three? Definitely trying to find a XXL bike but would consider XL as long as I felt "in" it and not "on" it. - Ty

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      Hey Ty - first off I'm 5'9 and almost always ride a medium, so I may not be the best person to give advice to. I do however talk to a lot of taller guys (6'2-6'4) who ride XL bikes. If I were to guess, I think the Sentinel would be great for what you're looking for. An XL has a super long wheel base and long reach as well as a good seat angle. From what I've heard, seat angles are where you tall guys can hate a bike because it alters your climbing position. Besides that, I would consider a kona, maybe just a normal 153. I've talked to the guys at the kona bike shop here in Bellingham and a lot of their designers/engineers are taller so their bikes would probably suit you a lot better. Hope that helps at least a little bit Ty, thanks for your support on the channel!

    • @Jacksquatch69
      @Jacksquatch69 7 лет назад +1

      I'm also 6'6". Just got a XL Guerrilla Gravity Pedalhead recently (250 mies on it so far), first bike thats really fit me. So much that I ordered their Smash as well. Handmade in Denver with steep seat tubes large stack, and long reach. I tried an XL evil and it was way too small for me and has a slack seat tube.

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the input Jacksquatch! Guerrilla Gravity doesn't mess around with making big bikes so it's great to hear it fits you well. Is there any other brands you'd recommend for coming close to hitting their mark on bike fit?

    • @Jacksquatch69
      @Jacksquatch69 7 лет назад +1

      So far no. Possibly the Transition Sentinel, or the NukeProof Mega 290. But I haven't tried them. I read that nicolai makes a pretty huge XXL. Edit: I also tried a Specalized Enduro 29er. It felt much larger than the evil, but the pedaling position sucked felt like the pedals were way out in front of me its reach was short also. Bashed my knee into the bars a couple times. I threw Trek and SC Hightower LT off my list when looking because they both have very slack seat tubes. I ride my XL pedalhead every day and have no complaints with its geo its great.

    Was actually looking into this 3 for my next bike, so thank you for this review. Can you please elaborate climbing with the sentinel compared to the other 2? Is it just heavier or pedalling in general? I've ridden the wreckoning and process g2 29 not too long ago, so I have a general idea of how those two feel on the climbs. Thanks!

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      Hey Mark, so the climbing on the sentinel is not good. If you're just doing access roads it's no problem at all (a little heavy) - where it fails is tight single track uphill. The SBG tech totally favors descending and compromises on climbing. Like I said in the video, if you're looking for a one do-it-all bike the process and wrecker are better bets. BUT if you're a nut for the downhill, it's a clear choice in the sentinel!

    • @markfamini

      Daily MTB Rider I appreciate the honest reply. I couldn't demo the sentinel since my LBS doesn't have them on stock yet. It's cool to see this 3 together in one vid. Keep up the good work! 🤘

    • @jonlittle1076
      @jonlittle1076 7 лет назад +1

      I didn't find that at all. I found the front wheel stayed planted and it was a super easy pedal up tight single track. In fairness I haven't ridden the other 2 bikes but have ridden several other bikes in the category and the Sentinel is much better. I was curious in the review where you mentioned the Sentinel was hard to get the front wheel up climbing. I would have thought that was a plus......but it is entirely possible I just missed what you were saying. Interesting how we all feel the bikes differently, I am always amazed how people can shop for them with a spreadsheet.

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      Hey Jon, first off thanks for your viewpoint! You're right that it's crazy people can shop on facts and not feel (but too be fair, I've done that a few times!). My point in not getting the front wheel up was the bike lacked being nimble. I've found lighter, smaller wheelbase bikes are easier to climb up technical terrain, but that may just be me. And the sentinel is in no way a failure at climbing, it just pales in comparison to the other two bikes - in my opinion. All that to say, you're right that every bike feels different to everyone!

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 7 лет назад +1

    it would be interesting to see how they compare in stiffness, while climbing, sprinting, technical riding,.
    I am not sure what the in & on top of the bike means, for me this sounds like a cockpit set up the difference, every thing has to be set up the same, so the reach, bar height....
    or on top of the bike could also mean a way too small bike, with too short reach, that's quite hard to ride offroad.
    I have seen in and on top of mentioned alto in reviews, but to me many reviews are vague.

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад +1

      I totally hear you Johannes, I think those are relative terms and a lot of people use them in different ways. For me, it was not a bar/cockpit issue, it's how the suspension works in conjunction with the BB and bar/cockpit height. This takes into account the rear suspension type, frame geo, and a lot more that give the bike an overall feel. When I say in the bike, it's more of a DH feel (planted with low overall center of gravity) while on top of the bike is more of a XC feel (nimble with higher center of gravity). Not sure how else to say it than in or on the bike. I'd love to hear what you think.

      @mtbboy1993 7 лет назад +1

      I definitely want a planted bike, with great stiffness, but not so much it cracks,, the right mix is important. I quite like the transition. some good frame engineering elements, but I have not taken a super close look at everything.
      I have to do more research on the offsets, cus you can't just put any fork on there and make it great I guess.
      I have not don't know if the fox fork is good enough or not, I heard some comments about knocking sounds at soem forks.

    Transitions are tank juggernauts on the dh. Love to see a review on the 18 scout. Sentinels and patrols not very playful, looking at the scout or HD4 mojo ibis

      I can’t wait to try one out, a scout that is! And the Hd4 is a beast! Both are great, but very different bikes

    Hey, could you make a video on bike helmets and recommend some good options for under $45 USD?

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      That's a great video idea Arda! I will defiantly look into making one, but it will be hard to stay within the 45 dollar price range!

    • @sammmycheez99
      @sammmycheez99 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah for 45 bucks your best bet is to find a few you like and set camelcamelcamel to alert you when they drop below $45 on Amazon.

      Kali Protectives - Lunati. Not $45 but close and the best. Use/crash and sell them.

    So very safe in giving a critique, afraid of hurting bike companies on trial......no rating at all..... Buyers should do their own test instead...

    I like comparison videos like this...but usually most videos end up keeping it as a leave it up to you to find out situation. who knows...maybe to avoid litigation that may be heaped upon oneself. ? it truly is a personal preference as well though.

    Why no Yeti Sb 5.5 tested?

    • @DailyMTBRider

      I need to find a demo in my area! There aren't many Yeti's in the PNW that I've seen.

    Can't compare a bike you ride all the time because your comfortable on it . You know how it handles and what's capable of perhaps next time leave it out

    Dude those trails look like perfectly manicured blue runs. Where is the gnar? It looks like the testing ground for wuss level riding.

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      😂😂😂 well trails look smaller through the camera, and don’t you worry, we have much sweeter trails in the PNW - I have found that the real steep, loamy stuff doesn’t look as fun/knarly through a GoPro though. I’ll try to up my wuss level for you 😂

    • @Elpollodelicioso
      @Elpollodelicioso 7 лет назад +1

      All good man just giving you a hard time ;) I live in the coastal BC, haven't ridden Bellingham yet but I may pop down there and try out some of the stuff on Galby. Do you and your buddies ever try filming each other with DSLR or even a phone instead of go pro? I wonder if it wusses out the gnar level of the steep stuff or if it's any better. The trail they rode in the fanatik bike co sentinel review was pants poopingly steep and gnarly. You guy should try that one!

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      It's not much better, but you can see a little more of the size of the jumps/features through a secondary shot. I'm not sure what trail they rode, but I think it's up in Canada. All I know is I want to ride it so bad!

    Guy who owns Wreckoning says Wreckoning is best all-round 29er... hmmm

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      Haha not shocking to say the least. But if you hear my thoughts on the other two bikes, they both thrive in areas that the Wreckoning in just ok at. Thanks for your feedback Stefan, it helps me get better!

    A 0 for the Sentinel climbing? Hmm...maybe get it out on some non fireroad climbs where you aren't just sitting and spinning. It's the best tech climbing bike I've owned and I've owned quite a few.

    • @DailyMTBRider
      @DailyMTBRider  7 лет назад

      I totally hear you Dan, I was giving it a 0 compared to the 153 and the wreckoning, I in no way think it's a bad climber and did pedal it up some techy sections. In my opinion, though, it's more sluggish around techy climbs compared to the other two bikes. I'd love to get my hands on a smuggler though as I'm sure it'd be a dream in those situations.
