- Rebels have reportedly taken over much of the key city of Goma in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, following three days of intense fighting between M23 rebels and the army and its allies.
Rwanda has been accused of backing the Tutsi-led M23 rebel group in recent months, but the neighbouring country has denied giving the rebels any direct military support.
Kenyan leader William Ruto had invited DR Congo President Félix Tshisekedi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame to a virtual summit aimed at ending the fighting, later on Wednesday.
But state media said Tshisekedi will not take part in the regionally brokered talks.
Rwandan government spokeswoman Yolande Makolo said Rwanda would take part in the summit, but did not say whether Kagame would attend.

AS a resident from this Region, i do want to put a clarity on the ongoing fighting between the M23 rebels agaisnt FARDC. I want to asure you that this conflict arise from human rights abuse of the Government of the DRC Against the Eastern Tutsis and Kinyarwanda speaking people in the eastern part of this country. it is almost 3 decades the government of DRC denying the rights of these people , claiming that they are not congolese, saying that they are Rwandans, which is Tottaly wrong. and their fellow brothers and sisters are in the refuges camps in the regions for almost three decades. that's why they are fighting now. in fact are fighting for their right.
I do Recommend that"
1) UN security council must assist in giving back these people rights calling the DRC Government to embrace the diplomatic way and peaceful agreements which are in place
2) the UN members must sit and discuss this issue and talk about the root cause of the matter
3) The UN Permanent members must back these rebels to restore their rights by stopping the DRC to use the wrong means of Millitaly way of solving the matter.

The DRC President has pretty much always been a figurehead anyway, gotta get that Cobalt amirite? Any talk about us in the west "wanting the best" for the Congolese people is just talk, really we just don't want their precious metals getting sold unless it's on our terms.
The real tragedy of such a resource-rich region of the world is that no matter what they do, there will always be bigger foreign powers meddling in their politics so long as there is something to gain from it. It's why the Australian economy is pretty much purely focused on mining, and also why Trump is so fixated on Greenland.
Kagame is a shrewd player of "The Game" so it is probably a safe bet that taking Goma was just him testing the waters for what he can get away with now that the eyes of the West are darting all over the place.

I wanted to mount a humanitarian project in DRC but the congolese behaved in a way that forced me to abandon. The chaos in the east is also in the interest of Kinshasa, since the resources can be exctracted without any official control. DRC could finance every need of the population ( health, education, infrastructure) with the revenue of these resources, but the government was bribed by Ben Gertler and others. The population is starving in spite of huge resources. Money is not the problem, corruption is.

The problem will not be solved by complaining and blaming DRC's neighbors lather it will be solved by putting Congolese first including M23 lebels and the people they represent. It can't be solved by hiring over 280 Romanian macernaries,paying them over $8,000/month each when the DRC Army is paid below $100.This is lack of wisdom, This is insane and wasting money that can be used by the Congolese. Something has to change otherwise things will get worse.

The problem in the Congo is the different mercenaries employed in the fighting and the weak Congolese army , the no action United Nations force . I think it’s time for the Congolese people to take matters on their own hands and address their own problems including listening to the minority population in the Congo . No one should be sidelined

During war of 1994 in Rwanda both HUTUS and TUTSI fled to DRC
- Tutsi (M23, ...) During genocide, tutsi came to DRC in 2-6 months of war
- Hutus ( some of them are called FDL) started to come after being defeated in Rwanda the same year.
What unite them all is the language and culture; both speak kinyarwanda as mother tunge. DRC took in close to 3 million refugees from Rwanda and all were TUTSI and Hutus Alike.
What separete them from congolese is language and culture. Congolese natevely do not speak kinyarwanda.
The HUTUS do not clem any thing from DRC goverment and Rwanda sees them as threat to its rule. This also used prentense to send Rwandan goverment forces to destabilise Eastern DRC and loot minerals.
DRC sees Tutsi as invarders who want part of the country that they don't belong to, tutsi's presense in congo is very beneficial to Rwanda. Congolese is ready to return both tutsi and hutus to Rwanda BUT Paul kagame (is a tutsi) want only HUTUS not tutsi.
