Fantastic tutorial, thanks very much. So many tuts say "ok, now do a wash", or "I'm going to dry-brush" without actually showing all the details involved in each step, but your vid shows all the steps in detail.
Little tip: when you’re right handed paint the highlight of the left eye (left to you) first. That way it’s easier to compare the two when you’re painting the right highlight..
For the record, if you inspect the shots from the movie, you'll see that Baby Groots eyes are not just black. There is an iris that is a redish brown color. I've found that if you add the iris, just encroaching on the lower and sides of the eye and then, once the paint is dry use multiple coats of clear nail polish top coat, you'll end up with very realistic, life-like eyes that match what you see in the movie.
I used your tutorial to paint my 200% baby's Groot and I can't be more pleased... thanks a bunch I learned a lot for the techniques you showed... much appreciated....
you probably dont care but does someone know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Trent Rylan Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Great video. I realize you are more into the art than the video but if you don't mind a little constructive advice, when you mention a color hold it in front of the camera a little longer than half a sec. or so so those of us just learning can get the name and type of paint. Also when the paint bottle is in the frame it would be nice if the label was visible. Maybe in the description, you could list the paints and their number. Great video and I can't wait to give all this a try
you could have foregone the gray on the eyes entirely had you just painted his eyes a gloss black, because then it would be actually reflective and have the same effect.
Hi, Daniel. Sorry, I didn't see this comment when you first posted. Send me a PM with your mailing address and I'll send you a print of Baby Groot. You can send it via RUclips, but I'll see it sooner if you send it through the Terrainify Facebook page because I check that more regularly.
I'm in awe of your 3D printing and painting. So much talent.

Amazing. I tried different acryl paints my friend use for "normal acryl paintings" none works very well on my 3d printed models.

What paint's do you use
you could have foregone the gray on the eyes entirely had you just painted his eyes a gloss black, because then it would be actually reflective and have the same effect.
Where can you buy them, or do you have to have a 3-d printer?
You need a 3d printer
thanks for the help!
wish I had a 3d printer
this makes me wish I had a 3d printer

I like Groot because Groot is cool
If you us a glossy paint for the eyes you don't have to paint in those lame highlights.
