Amazing. I tried different acryl paints my friend use for "normal acryl paintings" none works very well on my 3d printed models.
Now that's a earth elemental!!
This is a beautiful paint job and flock. You nailed it - the green contrasts really well and helps to give a sense of a creature that has lain dormant for years. Thanks for posting this.
I have exactly this miniature and was looking for tips/ideas-to-steal for exactly this technique. You are awesome. Thank you.
in this case the texture from the printer ended up working really nicely. Good stuff.
I have the original game with all the expansions and White Dwarf published campaigns. In my experience, a new edition of a GW game is rarely superior to their older stuff. I will happily continue on with the original.
awesome. very nice work.
Thanks man, just getting started and this showed me some good tricks.
If you us a glossy paint for the eyes you don't have to paint in those lame highlights.
What paint's do you use
Where can you buy them, or do you have to have a 3-d printer?
You need a 3d printer
Fantastic tutorial, thanks very much. So many tuts say "ok, now do a wash", or "I'm going to dry-brush" without actually showing all the details involved in each step, but your vid shows all the steps in detail.
Little tip: when you’re right handed paint the highlight of the left eye (left to you) first. That way it’s easier to compare the two when you’re painting the right highlight..
Great video. I realize you are more into the art than the video but if you don't mind a little constructive advice, when you mention a color hold it in front of the camera a little longer than half a sec. or so so those of us just learning can get the name and type of paint. Also when the paint bottle is in the frame it would be nice if the label was visible. Maybe in the description, you could list the paints and their number. Great video and I can't wait to give all this a try
thanks for the help!
Really good job. Very helpful to watch. Thank you for posting. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks so much, Michael! Glad it was helpful.
For the record, if you inspect the shots from the movie, you'll see that Baby Groots eyes are not just black. There is an iris that is a redish brown color. I've found that if you add the iris, just encroaching on the lower and sides of the eye and then, once the paint is dry use multiple coats of clear nail polish top coat, you'll end up with very realistic, life-like eyes that match what you see in the movie.
you could have foregone the gray on the eyes entirely had you just painted his eyes a gloss black, because then it would be actually reflective and have the same effect.
Excellent tutorial, I will be following your method today, I might try nail varnish on the eye for natural light reflection
I'm in awe of your 3D printing and painting. So much talent.
I used your tutorial to paint my 200% baby's Groot and I can't be more pleased... thanks a bunch I learned a lot for the techniques you showed... much appreciated....
you probably dont care but does someone know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.

wish I had a 3d printer
this makes me wish I had a 3d printer
Hi, Daniel. Sorry, I didn't see this comment when you first posted. Send me a PM with your mailing address and I'll send you a print of Baby Groot. You can send it via RUclips, but I'll see it sooner if you send it through the Terrainify Facebook page because I check that more regularly.
I like Groot because Groot is cool
i was wondering if you could put our website in your description www.inov3d.co.uk
Hey man, I painted a Groot based on your tutorial and it came out fantastic! I've made 4 how because people loved how it came out. You made a great video that was very informative and had the techniques that were needed to make the groot look just like the one in the movie. Only thing I did different was use a gloss on his eyes to give it some realism and it looks awesome. Check mine out on Instagram @hey_homi. Thanks again! Andrew
Thanks man, that's awesome! So glad that you found it helpful. :-) That's a really good suggestion about the gloss for the eyes too!
Do you have your terrain on Thingiverse?
Pretty good, my grood is printing right now and this was quite helpful :)
Thanks for watching, glad you found it helpful!
I'm pretty excited that this is coming out, I had an original 1st edition as a kid, loved it, but ended up swapping it for a bmx,
I never got a chance to play the older versions; I was kind of late to the party and didn't even know about this game when 1st and 2nd edition were around, and I wasn't able to get a copy of 3rd in 2009, so I snatched up two copies of 4th in 2014 when I finally had the chance! :-) But from what I understand, although there have been some tweaks and additions to the mechanics, the gameplay is largely the same, so it may definitely be worth your while to get a copy now.
