This is all a scheme from kinggath to get us to help with his mods. Worth it.
In all seriousness, I've been looking for stuff like this and, as far as I've found, there's nobody out there that has done this in a clear way who also has a knack for speaking to people. Really looking forward to the series kinggath

Exactly, i have *always* wanted to get into modding ever since i saw trainwiz's hillarous dragon/trains in skyrim nearly a decade ago. Every time i looked into it,it always seemed like there was a near "learn to code" level of "this is above me". I think the creation kit really helped open the doors for plebs like me though. Super exited to add slooty armour mod #1100000032 tho😂

As someone with self-taught mod release experience in FO4, I can confirm that Kinggath's advice is perfect!
Mod for YOURSELF first, pace yourself to avoid burnout, and achieve one thing at a time to keep yourself motivated.
Experiment, document, and focus on learning from your mistakes rather than being overwhelmed by trying to add that 'one perfect thing'.
Before you know it, you'll have all the experience and tools you need to make whatever you want in half of the time.
Thanks so much for doing this series Kinggath, as a huge fan of the insanely high quality content you put out I'll be following this intently!

If there's one thing that's almost universally undocumented in Bethesda game modding its UI modding, it would be great to get a video on that at some point, we're far from the xml hell of Fallouts past but still.
Looking forward to the series! I think even veteran modders will be able to pick up some tips and tricks later on.

Awww man am I excited for this!
I tried my hand at basic modding a year or two back and actually managed to get a custom named holotape with a 2 layer deep menu in it, which activated a basic feature of a mod idea that I've had for a long time and was thrilled that I'd actually managed to do something in-world! But then hit a wall - the whole run before I could walk trap - and dropped the ball from there.
I'd love to get back into FO4 and the Creation Kit through this series, and perhaps one day I'll get my mod off the ground :)
P.S: Never commented on one of your videos before KingGath, but I've been following Sim Settlements for a long time and your work has me in awe!

THIS is what I will be needing. With this series, I hope to learn enough that I will be able to create my very own DLC size Fo4 mod, with new weapons, NPCs which will become temporary companions, a whole new map, and a full quest line.

This is a great idea. I am really looking forward to watching this series (as I have time). One thing in particular that I am interested in learning is how to do a "negative" mod: a mod that removes something from the vanilla base game drop lists rather than adding something to the drop lists.

You're a great teacher. I'm a creative writer, but I flunked out of programming in the middle of game development school years and years ago, so I'm excited to maybe overcome old challenges and see if this is one direction that I still may want to go in. It sucked being a kid wanting to make games as an adult and realizing I wasn't going to be able to get there and hit a brick wall, but I want to try again. Hopefully I learn some good stuff this time, especially now that I don't have to worry about grades. :)

I know this video is old so you probably won’t even see this but, thank you. I’ve been playing fallout 4 for years and fell in love with it despite its shortcomings in certain areas. I would always come across things that I wished I could do throughout the game. I was always coming up with these great ideas in my head for mods and questlines but I was always a bit scared to get into it all. I never really looked into the fallout 4 “creating” of mods scene because it all seemed ridiculously complicated. After watching your videos however I can’t thank you enough. Honestly speechless, thank you Kinggath!

Well here I go. I have to say your SS2 mod has really inspired me to dive into this and is the major reason I continue to play FO4. I hope I'll be able to remain motivated and finish the series as I hope to be able to contribute to SS2. My best mod project so far was tweaking the AI of Neverwinter Nights monsters. I worked about 2 months on that, creating orders and conditions, and ended up with a fairly decent creeps, that used their abilities much better than the original idiots. The only drawback was that more than 3 monsters on a map made the game horrificly slow. So Kinggath, please don't forget about optimisation.

Hey, first of all I appreciate you doing this for the community, also thank you so much. I was wondering have you made a video on putting a unique model into the game? I wanna build a mod over time to try and add a smithy, swords and shields and separating the melee weapons of the game into that thing. I’ve done some small stuff like setting up a new non voiced box with tutorials I’ve seen from yourself and some others. I have not actually uploaded anything yet sadly, waiting until I make something (even something small) that I’m really proud of

    • @kinggath
      @kinggath  5 лет назад +1

Putting unique models that are already nifs is pretty straightforward and has been covered indirectly in a few tutorials. If the models are in some other software, then no - I haven't yet covered 3ds Max work for exporting models to the nif format (at least not at the time of this message... I will eventually)

The only problem many of the instructional videos on modding that I saw when I was learning is that often, to the person making the tutorial, "X" thing is so simple and obvious that it doesn't bear explanation. "X" thing is an absolute necessity before starting. Yes, "X" thing is simple, but not so obvious to a complete newbie.

I use XEdit for specific tasks, but never to do what I would consider modding. That I do almost exclusively in the CK.
XEdit is great for automation, bulk entry, and low level data things - but is terrible as a design tool or to set up dialogue, quests, or manage script related things.
