Absolutely fantastic video! Extremely useful information. Just one question how is that attachment (Picatinny rail I’m guessing) attached on to the SD handguard?
Many thanks. Lubrication needs will very slightly due to your environment (lighter in desert/heavier in maritime/humid), but generally you want what is referred to as a light coat; enough to be wet to touch, but not enough to drip or pool.
I'd never had one, stripped down a secondhand .22lr version that I got cheap due to misfires, to individual components, cleaned it, including the bolt carrier/barrel, adjusted the bolt spring for sub-sonics, reassembled it, and it works perfectly. All without a manual. Never saw one before, discovered H&K says I've voided the warranty for cleaning it properly, well duh, I'll clean it properly thanks, as it's mine and its outside the damn warranty anyway. Can't understand why stripping one of these is supposed to be so difficult, it's not, and every 500 to 1000 rounds I'll be stripping it down again properly to clean it. Tip: Makes sure you're in a clean environment to start with, in case you drop any components, AND use a Wooden Bench Vice to gently put the bolt carrier back together properly, as you really need three hands, I managed the first time with a bit of cursing, but I'll be using a vice next time. No, I'm not a gunsmith, just a Radio Amateur, and normally I prefer bolt and/or hammer actions, but I was in the TAVR about 30 years ago, so stripped FN SLR, SMG, and early SA-80s as a JNCO for personal weapon cleaning as Radio Relay Technician with the Royal Signals. Why does H&K consider people so stupid that they can't clean a weapon properly, and so store up problems to cause misfires? Absolute madness.
@@paulbellamy196 They dry out the parts, removing all lubrication. Simply respraying lubrication won’t work if the weapon is not completely disassembled because it will both not get into the tight tolerance locations where lubrication is needed the most and also pool in low areas and serve to grab dirt and debris. It will also remove any painted on things like fire and safe markings. And it will make plastic and polymer items brittle and prone to breakage.
@@teufelshundtactical Thanks for the prompt response. My cleaner is small, so I use it on disassembled parts: putting the dry wiped down bolt carrier, bolt, locking piece, firing pin and spring in the ultrasonic, blowing them dry afterward then relubricating all surfaces inside and out.

@@teufelshundtactical Id be happy to if I get the opportunity. At the moment I am trying to make my SP5 922(r) compliant and would like to make that happen ASAP. Is swapping the charging handle relatively simple and something that an average person could do by reading instructions?
@@alexanderbotonis6364 Yep. Move the charging handle back to where you can see the roll pin through the witness hole on the top of the receiver. Drift the pin out, remove the charging handle, install the new one and reinsert the pin.
Just got my first HK. Been wanting a MP5 since I was a kid. 25 years later I got a SP5. Been watching all your videos trying learn as much as I can. Just started my SBR paperwork. In your opinion what’s the best way to go about 922r compliance and maintain reliability of the platform???
For the SD, what are the consequences if I just leave the suppressor permanently attached? The can isn’t serviceable anyways so what does it matter if it is carbon locked? I am considering buying one, but there is a 0% chance I am doing anything beyond lubrication between range sessions.
If that is your mindset, then the SD is not for you. The SD, as my video illustrates requires a level of maintenance unlike other suppressed weapons. Not conducting this maintenance properly will cause your suppressor to seize to your barrel and then the only way to get it off will to be to cut through the receiver, suppressor and barrel.
I bought a brand new SP5, cleaned and oiled it, took it out and shot 500 rounds the first day. Got home and sprayed it down with solvent, what a mess. I will absolutely be following your instruction from here on out. I have to ask, is it normal to have a ton of tiny metal pieces all inside the gun? Im coming from handguns and ARs, ive never seen so many tiny metal pieces.
@@teufelshundtactical how often do you recommend cleaning? I typically shoot P320s and MK18s, I clean them every 1k rounds or so, adding a bit of oil before each range session. The mp5 seems much dirtier.
So I haven’t personally put enough rounds through my SD yet, I’m curious, how many rounds do you think you could run through it before it starts to have malfunctions without any cleaning at all? I’m just curious.
It isn’t malfunctions as much as locking up the suppressor to the barrel and how much more difficult cleaning is if you shoot more than the recommendation.
@@teufelshundtactical part of the reason I made that comment is the typical end of the world scenario. What gun would you take with you that kind of deal 😂 Gotcha

When I try to remove my bolt, it does not rotate clockwise to be able to be removed. I have the AP5, which it the type you show from SP5 (spring attached.) I tried for an hour to get the bolt to rotate off. tried turning it while pushed in, pulled out, rollers in, rollers out... Nothing seems to work. Have you any idea what I'm missing or why? I feel like if I try forcing it, that's not going to be good.
I have a Z5rs and want to order some Maintenance parts in case anything ever breaks what would you suggest I would order. I definitely want to change that bolt spring out To the braided spring. Mine is the old style that is attached
The framed H&K stuff in the office are either original posters that H&K offered at one time or another or custom projects I created myself. Sometimes H&K will offer posters on their webshop, but sadly they don't do much of this type of marketing anymore.
The bolt carrier can only move to the rear until the recoil spring is fully compressed. With the end cap on the A2 stock just slightly further pack, it’s beyond that reach.

Many thanks. Lubrication needs will very slightly due to your environment (lighter in desert/heavier in maritime/humid), but generally you want what is referred to as a light coat; enough to be wet to touch, but not enough to drip or pool.
What solution the mp3 barrel is somewhat corroded...plz rply
If the corrosion cannot be removed, the barrel should be replaced.
Hi, could you let me know the model code for the mount on the MP5SD? I see a few low B&T types but not sure which one this is. Thanks! Great video.
I don’t recall the code. The SD in the video did not belong to me. It was in for service.
@@teufelshundtactical after digging I think it's an MFI 5.5 low mount.
very informative. thank you
This was great! Great tips and tricks. Thank you.
Excellent video.
What are your thoughts on ultrasonic cleaners? Ive yet to buy one
I highly recommend against them.
@@teufelshundtactical Please elaborate as to why?
Thanks alot for this video. Really well done!
Can you please do a video on how to replace the charging handle on an sp5? I'm making my firearm 922r compliant and cannot find any videos on how to swap out the charging handle. Thank you.
Not something I'm able to do at the moment. If you have the opportunity to attend a future MP5 Armorer Course, I highly recommend it.
You need the Laser Devices flashlight handguard and cocking tube laser. Were they more common in Europe?
Old school stuff I used to own/be issued. But long since got rid of.
@@teufelshundtactical I didn't realize till I saw it at the range they made a flashlight grip for the MP5K. Reminds me of the laser grip for the P90.
EXCELLENT video!!! Thank you!!!
Just got my first HK. Been wanting a MP5 since I was a kid. 25 years later I got a SP5. Been watching all your videos trying learn as much as I can. Just started my SBR paperwork. In your opinion what’s the best way to go about 922r compliance and maintain reliability of the platform???
Congrats.
Won’t discuss 922R here.
@@teufelshundtactical Dang, just trying to get some info.
Great video, thanks!
Heck, I feel like a fully qualified HK Armorer now!! Doesn't that mean I get an HK jacket patch now, too?
For the SD, what are the consequences if I just leave the suppressor permanently attached? The can isn’t serviceable anyways so what does it matter if it is carbon locked? I am considering buying one, but there is a 0% chance I am doing anything beyond lubrication between range sessions.
If that is your mindset, then the SD is not for you. The SD, as my video illustrates requires a level of maintenance unlike other suppressed weapons. Not conducting this maintenance properly will cause your suppressor to seize to your barrel and then the only way to get it off will to be to cut through the receiver, suppressor and barrel.
Sir can you use the flute brush with the drill also?
I would refrain from that inside the barrel.
great tips, thank you!
I've never seen "metal pieces", but depending on the type of ammo, you can see remnants that will sometimes look like yellow or brass colored flakes.
@@teufelshundtactical yea that's a better way of describing it. Very tiny brass and silverflakes. It was all winchester white box, cheap range ammo.
@@teufelshundtactical how often do you recommend cleaning? I typically shoot P320s and MK18s, I clean them every 1k rounds or so, adding a bit of oil before each range session. The mp5 seems much dirtier.
@@NoEdits704 After every time you shoot.
@@NoEdits704 Do not shoot WWB. High probability for squib rounds that will destroy your barrel.
What gun would you take with you that kind of deal 😂
Gotcha
@@Truthloveliberty The SD is a very niche weapon, best employed in a raid. Not the MP5 variant you want for lack of maintenance operations.
What do you think about after market bolt heads like Mad Max that works without an extractor spring? It supposedly is more relatable.
That design is a copy of what H&K did with the PSG1 sniper rifle and HK21 series machineguns. It is an ideal way to get around the weak point of the original design, but I have no experience with the quality of the Mad Max examples.
It should operate as I described. If not, I would recommend contacting Century Arms.
Thank you very informative!
My pleasure
I have a Z5rs and want to order some Maintenance parts in case anything ever breaks what would you suggest I would order. I definitely want to change that bolt spring out To the braided spring. Mine is the old style that is attached
Springs are the ones that wear most.
Man where did you get the art in the background from?
From H&K, of course.
is the material of your pick softer than the firearm's metal? are you scratching the surface every time you remove carbon?
It doesn't hurt the finish anymore than when your dentist uses it on your teeth.
Is that a stainless steel cleaning pick or a brass one?
Stainless Steel
Man I wish I could get an a2 stock but sadly my sp5k has a wield blocking the slots.
Try Safety Harbor Firearms.
I had one but it was too small for my liking. Thanks for the suggestion though.
bojangles💚💪🏾
Preciate the videos! May I ask, where do you buy that wall art??
The framed H&K stuff in the office are either original posters that H&K offered at one time or another or custom projects I created myself. Sometimes H&K will offer posters on their webshop, but sadly they don't do much of this type of marketing anymore.
@@teufelshundtactical I gotcha, thank you for your time James!
Where do I get the stands in the background for the grip modules?
Present Arms Inc
How often should we clean a SP5K?
Every time you shoot it or once a year, possibly more depending on the environmental exposure.
What mount and optic setup do you have on your sp5? Does it allow use of iron sights still?
Aimpoint T2 on a Scalarworks riser and B&T base. Allows the use of the iron sights, if needed.
@@teufelshundtactical thanks
@@teufelshundtactical what height is that Scalarworks riser? I see on their website it comes in three heights: 1.42, 1.57 and 1.93. Thanks!
@@DontComeToMyHouse I not recall the exact size, but just remember it being the model for the AR.
Hi James, with an A2 stock installed what does the BCG stop against when it comes to the rear?
The bolt carrier can only move to the rear until the recoil spring is fully compressed. With the end cap on the A2 stock just slightly further pack, it’s beyond that reach.
@@teufelshundtactical so the BCG stops once the recoil spring is fully compressed?
@@Jose-ny4lj The bolt carrier does not reach the rear of the A2 stock, as I explained.
Could I swap the older recoil spring with the F model on a MKE clone?
No, the F recoil rod requires the F bolt carrier in order to fit.
