For me, it doesn't, not all improv are good and not all funny people are good at it. They can put more variety of comedians/guest not just the ones good at improv, we would have the same guests over and over.
From what i know it is not the usual sense that they have a script but they are given time to prepare. Seeing some of the jokes, which sometime falls flat. The time is probably just enough.
Edit: additionally, this method would also not deter someone who is really good at improv. If the person just wants to go blindly then why not.

I just noticed that ring on Taylor's left hand. Being that she's famous (!!) and has the sinquanon of such - a Wikipedia page (which is the firm division between "made it" and the rest of us) - I took a looky loo at the "Personal" section:
"Tomlinson said in her stand-up special Quarter-Life Crisis that she was once engaged, but called it off...Tomlinson was in a relationship with fellow comedian Sam Morril from March 2020 to February 2022..In her 2024 special Have It All, Tomlinson came out as bisexual, joking about her experiences trying to date women...As of May 2024, she's in a relationship with another woman."
