Your apartment complex should totally comp accommodations or offer you something! If they don’t, you should ask! One of my friends had the window of her college apartment bedroom literally fall through the wall in the middle of the night. It was in the winter, but thank goodness no one was seriously hurt! They comped her a whole month’s rent!
my fav- your white on white outfit! That's so crazy, you should definitely ask them to compensate. take everything day by day thanks for sharing your good and bad stories
I recently found your channel and I appreciate how relatable and honest you are in your videos! I just started my first career and living on my own in a large city so there's so much I can take from your experience. You also give so much inspiration for outfits when I start going back to the office :)
I live in DC and had my AC stop working and I had a window unit provided by my building until they had the entire unit replaced for my apartment the next day. You should be compensated for sure fi you have to get accommodations elsewhere while they fix it
I'm always caught off guard by countries that experience extreme temperatures. I live in a tropical country, right on the Equator and only have two seasons - hot and rainy, neither of which are usually extremities. 😅 Glad you got help with that heat!
Girl I feel you on the 93 degrees. In Seattle we don’t have AC and during the heatwave my apartment got to 94 degrees inside 🥵 it was absolute hell, and I felt so bad for my cat. But everyone assured me that animals are fairly good at regulating their body temps so I wouldn’t worry too much. They absolutely should give you a rent concession if you’ve asked for it to be fixed multiple times!
I've been bingeing your videos recently 🙂 this one made me smile because here in the UK we just had a 32degrees C heatwave and air con is not a thing. I literally almost died. Not taking away from your drama though!
I can totally relate about your relationship with you current apartment! I am living in my first apt for a year now and it doesnt feel like home to me. It’s weird to live where you feel like you dont belong!
Yes! Apartment buildings should be off setting the extra costs you incur during issues like that. I live in MN, we just had a huge hot spell and our entire A/C in the building went out. We ended up getting 3 days off our rent for the inconvenience. Don’t be afraid to ask! I did! Love your channel! ❤️
When I lived in San Francisco, no buildings had AC and there was a week of over 100 degree temperatures. Hopefully this doesn't happen to you again but I suggest making ice packs out of sandwich bags for you and the kitty, filling a tub with cold water to put your feet in and soaking a t shirt in water then putting it on.
Omg! I also live in a DC apartment complex and our AC has broken 4 times. They finally got a contractor out to fix it but my roommate and I had to reach out to the property manager to get them to comp us for it. I definitely recommend doing that if you are able!
My AC unit went out in the middle of July at one of my old apartments, took a WEEK to fix, and my landlord prorated my rent that month. Same situation, it was legit in the high 90s that week and was miserable. We had a cat as well but luckily cats love the heat so it didn’t phase ours either. It was a townhouse so the upstairs was considerably hotter than downstairs and my bf and I carried our mattress downstairs and slept in the living room floor 😭🤣
Omg I feel you on the AC. My building is new and it barely works and my apartment barely gets below 77 on days when its 80+ outside (aka this entire summer in the DMV). Air comes out of the vents technically so my building does not care lol. It just doesn't cool the apartment. The struggle is real. Nothing worse than feeling hot in your apartment
girl definitely reach out and get comped!!! I had this same prob with my apartment and I could prove it was jacking my AC bill yoo (check that if you haven’t!) and they gave me $500. It honestly didn’t seem like enough since I was dying every time the unit went off lol but you definitely deserve compensation! I just emailed my office and asked them to forward it to whoever could grant compensation. You are in the right!! I struggle feeling like I’m asking too much/being annoying but truly I know you pay enough to be having working air!
I feel so bad because anytime you go through something you’re so sweet and apologetic about how you don’t feel you shouldn’t complain because you’re privileged. But honestly I would guess 99.9% of people watching you are privileged too like hello we are all spending our free time on YT 😂 I just went through the same as you and had to pay to stay in a hotel for a week bc my AC went out. It sucks! I’m just here to say it totally is okay to say you’re having a sucky day on your channel. I just feel bad we live in a society where everyone is expected to never complain. Sucky situations come up and sometimes we just need to vent without 100 strangers on the internet reminding us someone else has it worse. I think we all know someone always has it worse. Hope you’re feeling cooler and more comfortable now 🌬
I once stayed at an apt that the ac would constantly break in the hot summer heat. They would not even come to do an emergency fix, saying the temp is within legally limit. What a joke. At the end I moved out immediately!
In NYC, some building have built in A/C units + some don’t. I happened to live in a apartment that had NO a/c and I have to go through two summers without any a/c and had to use a fan. It was not fun but I feel your pain.
At my old apartment we had keyless entry and the scanner for my door always had issues. I literally called them ALLLL the time, but what made me the most mad is that no one ever apologized! I don’t understand, apologizing isn’t that difficult 😅
My nose would've started bleeding from being so hot and my dramatic ass would've passed out lol. You handled it so well and yes you should definitely get some kind of an accommodation. Have they at least apologize yet?
OMG. Make sure you keep all of your documentation. I feel like they should offer you utility credit because you've been running your AC with it not working and if they can't fix it in a timely manner, then you should email them asking for an alternative place to stay with working air/ maybe they can loan an empty unit or something. My apartment building had a gas leak and it was my first ever official apartment in a unit/ like not renting from a private home owner. Anyway, 1 month I paid like 70 bucks for gas and I thought it was because I was running the heater and I cook at home all the time so I just thought it was what I really spent. I come to find out weeks later... my neighbor told me the gas company came out to my apartment to fix a line that was right in front of my living room window because there had been a gas leak going on for a while. She knew about it because she was home at the time they came out/ asked the gas person. No one ever told me I had a gas leak for my unit outside my apartment and no one ever gave me a credit or advised how I might be able to be compensated. Long story short- make sure to follow up. No one will reimburse you or address the inconvenience if you don't pursue it. In my case, I hadn't even been aware of it til my neighbor told me about it/ I had no proof or documentation.
Nah, if im being honest that’s 110% the complex’s responsibility. Idk what your lease terms are ofc, but they should at least offer some sort of compensation. It’s your place, but it’s their building, and their priority is making sure residents are safe & happy - at least it should be!
I know it’s so hard to deal with sometimes because we don’t want to be THAT resident, but when it comes down to it…that’s the complex’s responsibility! So don’t feel badly or anything. I relate to u Bc my old apartment complex always had issues that I needed maintenance to fix all the time it was so stressful!
They should offer something. A lot of these apartment complex are slum lords in the DC area. Also, they build these apartment too fast and alot of the newer apartment has mildew issues.
my AC literally stopped working while I was moving into my apartment and it was a brand new building but it was also really frustrating to work with the complex to fix it
OMG I didn't think you were being dramatic about the heat at all, especially concerning Leo. I can see why you don't have much confidence in the building management.
As a former leasing consultant, a lot of leases will have a portion that states they are not responsible for accommodations, if you are unable to stay in the apartment, unless it's an "act of God". For example, "tornado, natural flooding, etc. I know it seems logical that they should be responsible, but most of the time you sign something releasing them of that responsibility and don't even realize it unless you read the entire lease, which I know is a totally normal thing for a majority of tenants do not. I hope your AC is fixed by now and you are feeling better!
@@amyrauch I think it’s something we would all expect for sure, and once you’ve seen the “inside of the business” you it gives a different perspective. I know what to look for and what to watch out for, which I’m very thankful. Most leases give the tenant very little protection, but if you have a good front office staff, they will take care of you and advocate for you as best as they are allowed and that’s where it will make all the difference. Hope this helps when you are looking for your new place! Happy to help if you have anymore questions. 💗

best way to get to Georgetown, hands down, Metro to Dupont circle then catch the circulator! It was my commute for a while from school lol
i am such a hoe for the circulator
Hey Amy, can you please do a work outfits video 🥺 I’m obsessed with how clean/sleek your outfits look!

Happened in my apartment too! They paid for our bill that month. You should definitely ask, just send them sweaty you and it’ll spook them lol 😂
WTFFFF I’m so jealous
I think it's funny how we would never survive back in the days of no electricity. I can hear Laura Ingalls laughing right now.
i certainly would not LOL
AC not working in the summer and you overheating is a big deal. Overheating can even kill you. It's ok to complain about your apartment being 93. lol
Where did you buy your drinking glasses?
the small plastic ones are from target!
93 degrees ?! I’d need it fixed for free, a $100 gift card & a personal apology from the manager themself lol
at its peak it got to 95 lmaooo
❤❤❤❤
