I can't believe it's underrated despite being on Board Game Geek's Top 200! Personally, my Top 200 is the same as theirs, and I haven't even played most of 'em 💪😤
Stefan Dorra is one of the best to ever do it. I would also throw San Marco and Web of Power in the mix, but Kreta is a fantastic design. (Although I would still pick El Grande).
I've also thought, Kemet, Cyclades and Inis were the trinity a few years ago. Didn't think much of Blood Rage first game and generally opt to play games with other mechanisms. Ankh and Rising Sun are newer by that designer and I preferred Rising Sun El Grande has memory from the tower which I dislike. The board art is mild. Haven't still played Wonderlands but I've seen it take long. Albeit not that long at HexiCon

All the other games look big because they are standing in the shoulders of the giant El Grande. If El Grande leaves, the others just fall on the floor and look up to El Grande 😎 El Grande is my favourite one.
Agree with Grant's criticism on Blood Rage and the main reason why I sold the game. It's fun to revisit the once in a while but I wouldn't rank it as one of the Best Area Control game. There are way better ones out there like Ankh or Kemet.
@@boxingthegame Has nothing to do with Fluxx. Glüx is an abstract game where players got their own bag and draws round tiles with dice numbers on them. Seeking majority in each area/room on the board. Works very well.
Candice with the hero pick! Tyrants is somehow still underrated despite being a top 200 game. It's amazing.
As soon as I saw someone championing for Tyrants I knew it had to be you!

Came to say something similar to this! Great pick and I just played it for the first time this week.

El Grande hands down!!!
My hidden gems might be Condottiere, Sun Tzo and Brian Boru.
Kreta no one ever knows, but is still at or near the top.

Diplomacy, Advanced Civilization, Axis & Allies
Finally a man of culture!

Someday, Buonocore is going to pick a game which didn't coexst with the dinosaurs :D
Help!! I only play Area Control games that start with the letter "W" Whatcha got?
Cyclades, Root, Axis and Allies Anniversary
Kemet blood and sand!!!!!!!
Glüx is up there among the best area control games. Got a Seal of Excellence by Tom Vasel too.
Ok I have only heard of it's predecessor Fluxx. How does Glux enhance or alter the mechanics of it's classic predecessor ?
