Flow, blow, my hot and cold fate,
Stirring up flows of rowan-like words!
Drop in, knock up!
Strew the snow 'bout
Over woods of dates
And over river plains!
Some lack the will to turn light on.
Some lack the strength to squeeze out "no".
Fate creeps like an iridescent snake on,
Holding tail tight, eyes are all ice,
Breast is all fear, heart is all in dumps.
She's all pain, all pain and can't be otherwise.
Howbeit, flow, blow, my hot and cold fate,
Stirring up flows of rowan-like words!
Drop in, knock up!
Strew the snow 'bout
Over woods of dates
And over river plains!
I want so much to quiet on your shoulder down
To narrate words, to narrate thoughts,
To rummage the pockets and take out ice
To cool brow down, to cool brow down.
Wall clock is ticking on: ting-a-ling,
Only chime moans beyond that hoary mount.
Fluid is running over eyes' grass,
Over yours, mine, and over yours and mine.
Howbeit, flow, blow, my hot and cold fate,
Stirring up flows of rowan-like words!
Drop in, knock up!
Strew the snow 'bout
Over woods of dates
And over river plains!
Flow, blow, my hot and cold fate,
Stirring up flows of rowan-like words!
Drop in, knock up!
Strew the snow 'bout
Over woods of dates
And over river plains!
Rowan-like, as I understand, is for florid, beautiful and at the same time homely, intimate and dear to heart; snow is for age, river is for time, beyond the mount is for something ahead, invisible as yet.
Wonderful translation, Slava!!! I knew the words, but it takes a master to convey poetic meaning. And this song is nothing, if not pure love poetry. :) :) "of rowan-like words" is a marvellous example of your ability to capture poetic meaning.
Ditto. Wholeheartedly agree with Edward. Great job. It's more difficult than it appears.
Great translation! Congratulatuons!!
it's an amazing translation, thanks!
