this is BY FAR one of the most incredible performance of this work. lots of decisions to make on tempo, dynamics, rubato, phrasing, silences, pedalling, and he took them all without avoiding any. absolute control of the instrument without sounding rigid.
I am simply not qualified to comment on Emile's superb pianism, except to say that Nadia Boulanger did a great job of nurturing his inherent talent for making music. Love his music making! He deserves to be more widely known.
Wonderfully unique performance! Bravo. He’s not afraid to experiment and be different. I love it. We need more individuals and less cookie cutter fast and loud pianists. We need more artists.
Not that many. He did some interesting things with it. The piece is played with major liberties by many well known pianists, which interests me. (I play it too.) The hand ballet is certainly annoying here, but not as annoying as the facial show. Just play the piece, please, we'll take it for granted that you're moved by it.
How orchestral version 😍 every strumental detail is marcate and with a touch on piano of exemplary mix of colours and clear in its articulation. Thanks for this fantastic interpretation!
great performance ! dynamic , choregraphic and expressif! that changes from frozen play of much pianists; Ravel IS expressif and sometimes passionnate!!.....
Very original and refreshing. He brings out notes and melodic accents that I have never heard before, like at 0:07-0:10. I also like his rubato style in the first mouvement. Many pianists play this part too rigidly and too fast - it's not a military speed march, it's a valse.
I heard it to, it was enlightening. He did an amazing job, I can’t say anything Bc honestly I feel ravel would’ve pictured it to have been played this exacty way
lovely mystical performance of these extraordinary waltzes......like a ballroom painted by Gustave Dore.....careful attention to detail...unhurried playing....the very elastic rubato works beautifully in creating the varied moods of the waltzes....a box of wonderful chocolates...such a different performance....love it!!
A lot of comments about his movements but remember that in a live concert the audience is as much a specator as it is a listener. If all you want is perfect music without any mistakes or silly grins or otherwise weird looks or movements, just get the CD.

Mick Dunn If there is such a thing as a PERFECT pianist, it must surely to be found in this man!
Absolutely overflowing with imagination and good taste from start to finish. Stunning.
he is really feeling it. Ravel's music is colourful and seeps into your soul. Once you hear it, hooked.
elegant, individual, spontaneous and at the same time organic playing. wonderful.

Great dynamic changes and mood variations. Complete piano control. Really enjoyed the performance.

Wonderful. Just wonderful. And creative. Huge Bravo!!

Thanks for this fantastic interpretation!
This is a wonderful piece, and, as far as I've been able to find, no two pianists play it alike, despite Ravel's clear instructions.
Magnifique !
beautifully performed, full of fragrance and zest

Quite a versatile pianist! He can exhibit almost all kinds of piano technique without any appearance of toil.

I want to study with this man

carolineleiden look at the videos of Rubinstein playing though. can't deny the power of his performances, even with minimal physical expressions
It's Ravel not Liszt !!
Ravel is Liszt's successor in the pianism
Sure, Ravel was much more focused in the music rather than in the technique, but his pianism is clearly influenced by Liszt
I prefer Volodos' and Zimmerman's versions
LePredator1
Thanks. I'll write that down.
I prefer Argerich
