I thought it was pretty obvious he had crescent moons on his cheeks because of the blood moon curse. It kind of writes itself when you think about it. Not everything has to be spelled out to the audience, there is a novelty in leaving things unstated for the viewer to figure out instead of handing them everything on a silver platter on twitter. Wasn't there some sort of photo booth scene where the curse acted on Marco, kissed Star on the cheek or sth like that and we see on his photo that his cheeks glew up with the crescent moons? It's been a while since I watched the show
Yeah, such scene was so anticipated in the fandom, and creators did literally nothing with that cool thing that Marco used the wand. Like, even if it was just for one spell and scene it should have had much more impact on the story.
Me to but in this clip he literally states that he thought something was gonna happen (before it does)because their souls are bonded- so maybe the explanation is the bloodmoon curse (him having crescent moons that flame onto his skin instead of just appearing or fading on like the first person to receive the wand did- (I think they just appeared I’m not positive I’d have to look) maybe it’s because his situation is different because their souls are bonded together due to the curse- also those moons look fire on him they’re awesome I don’t even care that much that we didn’t get an open explanation it’s cool that it happened and it’s up for interpretation,

I remember one episode called into the wand, Star was reading Celena's history and looked at her picture. Celena was holding her fan hand covering her face. but I don't think she had a cheek mark in the picture. the theory of a history about Celena and Marco cheek marks.🌙
Why don’t people just understand that the cheek marks on Marco aren’t really that significant? It seems that they simply appear on anyone who uses the wand (think of it as the wand’s magic going through the person but only as they use it), but also the butterfly family is born with them because the wand’s magic is basically in their blood bc of how long they’ve been using it. The deepest I can see it going is that Marco got cheek marks because his soul and Star’s soul are combined, so he gains some of her qualities (like cheeks when using the wands), but I don’t even think that’s a good theory
Since it was revealed that all Mewmens where just humans from earth that traveled thru the magic dimension (forgetting everything in the process) & randomly arrived in Mewni.....makes perfect sense that Marco, or any other human can use the wand. Janna's version of the wand would probably be a nightmarish sight

When someone uses the wand it gives them glowing cheeks. If you use it over a long period the magic radiation makes the cheeks stay

If I remember correctly, the cheek marks are just from exposure to magic. I could be wrong, though.
