    Just finished EMT school and passed my NREMT in 70 questions! Watched a bunch of your videos during that time and they’ve for sure helped me a lot thanks for making it so easy to understand

    In my opinion being a first responder will always be worth it but I'll never work 24 hour shifts again. It's too much stress on the body.

      I agree. I still work 24s but I hate it. I’ll
      Never work a 48 or a 72 again on an ambulance.

    I just got my basic. I’m planning on starting at an EMS system and get some experience. Eventually I’d love to end up at a fire department.

    I plan on staying volunteer. I like having the freedom and time away if needed. Volunteering with both my county rescue and with my local State Guard, is a personal calling. If you do this for money without the calling, it will tear you apart.

    I did forget to mention that here in Austin, if you can get on to one of the two big county EMS companies (Austin Travis and/or Williamson), you will have stations and great equipment and be treated very well. Issue is, it's very hard, just like getting into a Fire dept. Outside of those two here, you will post for 12-14hrs. 12hr shifts are the minimum here.

    Maybe what you are saying is true for a larger city. However, around us, our rural Ambulance Services work 12 to 24 hours shifts. We have our own bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms, and laundry at our stations. We typically are at the station until we get a 911 call. We usually do not live in the truck or post. You get to know people on your service because it's not always the same partners that you work with. You also get to know others during community events that we host.

    So I am an EMT in upstate NY and its weird to see EMS agencies not having a main base to stay at, almost every agency up here has a main station and we only leave for 911 calls, standbys and transfers. I imagine its due to you maybe being in the city? Its neat to see the different wats EMS is run in different locations.

    • @TheParamedicCoach

      Agreed! Yes, it is important to note not every EMS agency stages on the road, but if we are talking private company EMS, a lot of the time they cover such a large area that they do stage ambulances.

    I've been an EMT in right outside Austin Texas for 6 years (also second career is EMS as I'm in my late 40's FWIW....if I was younger, like most everyone else (LOL) I would have definitely 100% gone fire). I can tell you the difference between fire and EMS is NIGHT AND DAY regarding amenities/quality of equipment and so on. Go out and sit in your car (where its MORE comfortable than an ambulance) for 12 hrs straight (outside of calls of course) and tell me how you feel. Posting SUCKS!!! Ever driven a long distance and you get out and stretch, you're tired, you hurt? (remember, ambulance seats don't lay back). Now go to a fire dept., hit the weight room, take a shower, maybe sleep for 2 hrs, have some food in your gourmet kitchen etc etc etc. Which would you rather do. Oh, did I mention pensions?
    BTW, I'm now an AEMT and I teach EMT skills. No more posting for me. What I'm trying to say is......don't even contemplate private EMS, go FIRE DEPT, you'll be treated like a king! Here in Austin, the city just broke ground to build 5 more state of the art fire dept. Each medic will have their own dorm! Full gym! Full Kitchen! Volleyball court, picnic benches outside, fire pit etc

    Mistakes were made and I was putting the paramedic school without me having my emt-b license so they tested me to get my emt-b license to have already gone through the class but I got a 926 I'm so sad. After about 30 days of starting nonstop I am about to retest I'm so nervous

      Hey Courtney, thanks for tuning into the channel! I can definitely help you out, are you a vault student? This is where I send people to prepare for NREMT. 926 is actually one of the closest scores I've seen to passing since the new scoring system roll out. www.prepareforems.com

    Hey Evan, right now I’m working at a smaller Fire department and I got hired specifically as an EMT B, but I find it hard to fit in, or to get comfortable, I’m from private EMS, but I find the benefits somewhat worth it since it’s city job. What’s your take on that? My goal is to be paramedic one day.

    • @TheParamedicCoach
      @TheParamedicCoach  Год назад +2

      It definitely will take time to blend in with the new department, but the bottom line is starting out be as useful as you can be around station and step up when you need too, you will earn respect over time, trust the process and your senior EMTs.

      @@TheParamedicCoach thanks! I actually think I’m leaving, it’s a very different culture and I’m not a fan of the chain of command aspect, plus I want to pursue Paramedic and if I do it with em they ask me to sign a 3yr contract. A lot for me. What do you think about that?

      You could get your Advanced EMT certification! It seems like it’s easier to get hired as an AEMT- at least in Utah…any extra training you can get will only help you! And be sure to keep the EMT content you learned fresh in your mind! Study your flash cards,re-read your textbook, rewatch these videos! You’d be surprised how quickly you forget info when you can’t put it to practical use. Best of luck to you! 😊

    I want to become a medic (EMT first, I know), but my paramedic friend says I'm too skinny to do it b/c of the constant lifting.
    Is 5'9", 135 too scrawny? Every medic I know looks like a lumberjack

      Ben, not at all you can do it! I do recommend that you add strength training to your routine but by no means do you have to be a power lifter or strongman. Watch the video here I did with senior EMTs: ruclips.net/video/CRCF6Giwgag/видео.html

    • @XX-lr8dg
      @XX-lr8dg Год назад +2

      It’s really not as bad as you think, I’m currently working 24s for a private ems twice a week and I’ve had 8 hour shifts working retail in previous jobs that dragged on a lot longer than a 24 hour shift running 911 calls, it’s definitely an adjustment when you start though, i had a harder time falling asleep when we had downtime than I did staying awake because I was just amped up and tense but that fades pretty quick and you just learn to grab what sleep you can when you can
