  • Any type and any size of thread can be copied with this machine. It can even be threaded on a conical workpiece. any size of thread on any size of shaft.
    Welcome to INNOVATION TIME.💐
    I try to make some useful diy tools to doing job easier and faster. These diy tools is for metal working and welding projects. Many ideas for making diy tools you can find here. If you have diy tools idea for this channel, comment me please.
    I have made a thread copier. we need two chuck and two bearings. I know it can be made better than this, but I have some limitations and I made this tool idea in this way. For example, bearings place should be machined and bigger Chucks should be used. Having a lathe machine is my old dream, that I couldn't buy it yet.
    Your support will allow me to have more and better equipment to better implement such these ideas.

    With some tweaks to take out any slop and kick back I can see this being useable to copy big threads for vice making.

    My first thoughts when watching this was that's quite a bit of butchery, but it really is a fantastic idea and like most of the other commenters said there's room to improve on this and make a really good simplistic thread cutter. Good luck and I hope you get your lathe soon

    The concept behind this is quite clever. I have a plain-turning lathe which can't cut threads, but with a similar setup, I could probably make something with a set of common inserts (M6, M8, M10, etc) to be able to do the job. Nice work!!

      @daxmakes Interesting, I have a similar predicament. Picked up an antique Drummond lathe with missing change wheels. I was looking around ideas to get around re-manufacturing the original gear train. Have you tried to set this up, and what are your thoughs of how this could be integrated to a lathe?

    • @daxmakes
      @daxmakes 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@computername I have not yet, as I haven't had a use for it, but I'm still adamant is could be done. You'd need to find very high tolerance nuts and bolts to use as your 'master', though.

    Excellent idea. I can see a variation being used to cut very large threads in wood for wooden screws and other parts. The template thread could be as simple as rope or cord wound around a mandrel or even just a helical mark made by hand to guide a .pointed indicator. The cutting side could be a wood router with a V-shaped cutter.

    I haven’t read any comments so forgive me if these points have been mentioned. Threads have a precise angle that must be met by the cutting tool which varies by the thread type. The depth of the thread from crest to root is just as important. I won’t even address concentricity

    Surfing RUclips, seen your video, have comment: I would have to give you a GONG, GONG, GONG. You chasing your tail here, all you should do is weld up a tool post holder (install a nicly ground thread cutting bit) and adjustment screw. Put a large hand crank in the place of the drill and make it all done by hand. Remember the machinist hand book says about threading crews, feed it in at 29 1/2 degrees. Anyway interesting concept for a all manual or hand made threading machine tool. Scrap the power tools all together and be a real caveman dwelling innovator.....lol. ;-))

    The idea isn't the problem, the cutter is. You need to be using a thread cutter to actual cut the treads. And with that type cutter, you will also need a way to adjust how deep you initially cut them. It takes a few cuts to get to where you will have workable, useable threads... Grinder cutting disc don't have the proper "V" groove to make such thread cuts. And even if you had the proper "V" groove cutter, it would take a lot of power to cut the threads, meaning more HP on the spinning drive motor. But keep experimenting. You will get it working...
