Dave, you and your friends at Penn are correct. I worked in the casino industry and poker room for 17yrs in FL. The ONLY reason our casino had bigger poker tournaments wasn’t based on poker. The trick was it attracted the poker players that spend their money playing table games and slots before or after they played the tournament. Big revenue generators surprisingly. I do agree Barstool should get like 5 tournaments around the nation throughout the year and see where it takes the company. My casino hosted tournaments in ballrooms, off the casino floor.

Dave is so right about poker players being cheap. I worked at Foxwoods casino for 15 years in a tipping position. It was well known and experienced by everybody in my job that they were by far the worst tippers we would ever get throughout the year bar none.
Damn the times I’ve been to poker rooms everyone would give $1-5 if they won a hand on a $1/2 table. They would win $3 and tip $1 back to the dealer every time. That’s in Tunica and Metropolis
@@stevemygoodman7809 You know what Steve I believe you, the exception to what I said would be some of the middle class guys who were local and would play maybe twice a month in low limit games. I thought about saying that in my original post but I figured people know there are exceptions to the rules and in my experience those guys were the exceptions.

You can't compare poker to golf because of exactly what Dave is saying. Poker players show up to make money. Golfers show up to spend money. I think Dave is overlooking the entertainment value of it. Broadcasting it on RUclips with sponsors, having Barstool personalities involved will bring live audience, make it a party. And that's where Nate's point of vertical integration plays a part. That'll fill hotel rooms and slot machines and buffets.

Barstool vs America probably made no money after production costs/hotels and other expenses but sometimes you do things like that because it brings new people in to the universe

I always thought there was a $10k minimum for employees. I interpreted Dave's comment about "getting paid" as a higher value contract that is advertised as a main event, similar to what Billy got. I could be wrong though.

Barstool poker tour at all of the casinos they own is crazy not to do it. Dave is right on the vig for live casino games, but tournament games you can build in a profit guaranteed. 100 people, $1,000, $100,000 in revenue, give out 80k in prizes for top 25 easy. do it 20 times a year. make 400k.
And I’m guessing all the dealers and employees running it would just work for free right?
The average slot machine makes $80,000 a year. Dave is right in the sense that a poker room filled with slot machines can makes 10’s of millions a year. Where is wrong, is that poker players also play other games while on their casino trip besides the regulars
When you run a poker tournament, look at second place money and that's usually what the house is taking in, the main reason why casinos dont like poker is because it takes man power and greedy people dont like spreading the wealth

I fully respect Dave … and I cannot speak to profitability of poker as a business…. But the demand is there and I would definitely go to a barstool tournament….
Like he explained, the demand for sports betting/slots/roulette is also VERY high and makes more money per square foot and they make more money per minute. Im not sure whos right but Daves analysis seems more spot on to me....
@@chroniccomplainer3792 Dave was driving that point home on a basis of how much full time poker rooms in casinos don’t make the return per sq foot vs other more profitable games.
Where as the poker boys were talking about traveling pop up events in the conference centers of their casinos, similar to how casinos have concerts (that they lose money on) to draw in crowds that will eventually play @ the slots and stuff

Not a Barstool fan, but poker is basically religion to me. Fell in love during the original boom and it needs new blood DESPERATELY. The nerds make it unbearable, even on tv & streams. Sure the money & pots are massive but nobody cares if there isn’t any personalities to follow and cheer/jeer.
Everything Portnoy said about players being cheap and the low upside for properties is on the level though. That Nate guy needs to slow down the “know-it-all” role and show Portnoy how much the WSOP generates for Caesars to understand why it’s significant. Explain the juice tournaments take etc. I’m not even a fan and I see all the potential & fresh money/faces (especially younger ones) that could fall in love with the game like I did
