My "trick" to make basil grow huge: separate it into individual stalks (don't be afraid to rip the roots) and plant it everywhere. Like this you'll find a location that it likes and you can get about as much yield from just one plant as you would get from a store-bought plant. This works with store-bought and home-grown plants. And don't harvest individual leaves, but "branches" then you get new growth from the remaining leaves

Indeed, do not grow basil too dense (risk of fungal infection spreading is much bigger) and mine grew really well between pepper and tomato plants.

Diddling the tomato flowers!!! Your advice has helped us sooo much. I've got to tell you, we have never had this many tomatoes before following your trick. Over the last 3 garden seasons, we have been overwhelmed with tomatoes from 3 plants that we've had to share with friends 😄 . We use 3 bamboo stakes and form into a teepee over each plant. We continue to loosely tie the plants as the plants continue to grow up the stakes.....Knock on wood that has always worked for us. Always looking for the simplest, most efficient way to garden without spending a lot of time. Thank you, now diddle on!!!

Basil is super moody, try growing it by itself, and give it as much sun as you possibly can! For peach tree, you gotta have to prune it in fall when its dormant, and you gotta fertilize it the Spring. Tops of the trees usually die in the winter when it gets too cold, especially trees that weren't supposed to be there in the first place. Awesome Garden!

At the beginning of each spring I always buy a basil plant. At the end of the summer it's the biggest plant I've got. It needs alot of ground so be sure you re-pot it immediately in a deep (not nessicarily wide) pot. Then water it every day. It needs alot of water and alot of sun.
There you go! You should be able to grow a crazy big basil.

Awesome garden mate. A tip with the mulch is to water the garden bed before you put in down and after. Pea straw is the most common form of mulch here in NZ. Also peas and beans will keep producing for a while if you continuously pick them. And all mints can be invasive so pays to plant them in their own containers. 🌻

You dont have to kill the thinnings of lettuce. Just pull them gently and relocate them. It helps of the soil is moist. Do it on a cloudy day so the can recover before baking in the sun. Or wait until they are a bit bigger and make a salad with them :)

If you live in an area that has the distinct seasons like Canada (I’m in Michigan), divide what you grow into two groups, cool season crops and warm season crops. The cool season crops: lettuces, peas, beets, radishes, broccoli, cabbage etc. can be planted as soon as the ground thaws for the first crop. Then can then be planted again at the end of the summer for the second crop. This is why the lettuce bolted and the cabbage suffered as they don’t do as well in the mid summer heat. The warm season crops, tomatoes, peppers, melons, cucumbers (the true fruits) do amazing in the mid summer. You can only get one crop of them and can be planted after last frost of the season. All mints are invasive so ALWAYS plant in a container or you’ll be sorry lol. Great video, plants are LIFE 🙌 inspire gardening, it’s amazing and so rewarding!! 😸

Do you save the seeds of your lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. for next year? These are super easy to grow from seed and you can save the 4 bucks for another Savoy cabbage plant 😉. Do you have more perennial plants or trees? Thank you for all the great videos you share! Keep up the good work! 🙏

We started gardening again now that my baby is two. We successfully grew bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, onions and a few little green beans. I even got one random jalapeno which was a nice surprise.
I also didn't have the heart to thin out stuff so some of my carrots were small and I only got like 2 radishes.
I highly recommend home grown carrots. They are delicious and soft. My two-year-old would pull them out of the ground and wipe them off on her shirt and just start eating them.
We have rabbits in our yard and they ate down all of the onion greens so our onions did not get very big but they were still delicious.

One thing I learned this year was not to use dead leaves from my riverbank for mulch...it was full of slug eggs. We also used dry grass clippings, and slugs love hiding in it during the day and come out and eat your veg at night. Straw worked well, similar to hay I guess, and I'm drying out length of brambles to use criss crossed around the plants next year as slug barriers. Definitely netting for next year too! Those freaky tomatoes tend to taste the best. For the basil, I'd plant it in your raised beds, needs some room and plenty of soil. Basil really likes the heat too, so finding the hottest sunniest part of your garden would be good, especially where you live. You can use wood chips as mulch too. The mulch doesn't really need to be broken down as long as you're not incorporating it into the soil. When you incorporate something carbon rich into the soil it can temporarily tie up nitrogen and other nutrients. The purple kale and purple tomatoes look awesome.

Just a warning though - I think I spotted Japanese Knotweed behind the last box you showed (beside the bird pond). It’s a highly invasive plant that can actually destroy concrete and foundation. It decreases land value and in the UK it’s illegal to sell a property without letting the new owners know it’s there.
Would highly recommend getting it removed professionally! If you just cut it, it’ll spread more 😬

Basil loves full sunny spot, they grow very well when pair up with artichokes, they love heat and plenty of water, so can totally water basil in a daily basis they will love it on a sunny spot.
Basil is very different than rosemary, rosemary doesn’t like wet feet which means rosemary cannot stand watering daily, so it’s better to not plant basil and rosemary together; rosemary can pair up with lavender they like similar conditions
Mint, strawberry and oregano are invasive which means they will take over the whole growing space so it’s better to put them in a small pot and they survive through the winter snow

Bamboo stakes work far better than cages, especially if you are trimming the suckers for better production. Almost all lettuce bolts at high heat (cilantro too), save those seeds for the fall garden (lettuce self pollinates). Sunflowers are fantastic for doing microgreens through the winter. You gotta start growing bush beans! So easy, super productive. Your basil will do better in full sun with more room. Nasturtium is another edible flower you will love and the greens are edible too. I love the gardening videos!

The potted basil did really well all summer, it is loving the fall but losing its color (so taste too) a bit. I also put it in with lettuce and the two helped each other out thru the heat of summer. The basil in the garden were too far apart and got too much shade, were spindly for a long tme. But i notice it had a growth spurt in the last week or so and is taking off again. So note to self, plant it closer together.

I grew loads of potatoes from an old forgotten sprouting one I found in the back of the draw. Just cut it into four and popped them in a bucket, covered up the leaves every time they grew and once the flowers had died and the plants looked all sad and droopy we harvested loads of lovely spuds! And we sliced an organic tomato, covered it with soil, thinned out ( I feel you Crystal x ) the seedlings and got some amazing tomatoes from the plants. I bloomin' love nature! Love your videos, love all the content, recipes, vlogs, gardening..whatever. Love from London x

Excellent video, it's cool that many of us came here for plant-based fitness reasons but our lives keep co-evolving to include related offshoots that are relevant to now. It would be awesome if you made a end of year video detailing your plans of saving, drying herbs, canning etc the last yields. This is something I don't know anything about other than I'll probably make pesto with the huge amount of basil I grew.

Rosemary has so many great uses! It's incredible in home baked bread if you're into that, but it's also nice in salad dressings etc. We also lost all our broccoli plants to the caterpillars this year... Little scumbags. Cheers for the video!

Basil needs lots of heat brother, that's why it grows better in more tropic areas. They have short lives here. I have trouble with it too.

Purple tomatoes sound so great. Love this video. I also don’t do very well with basil. I think it requires a lot of water.

Loved this vid! My tomato plants went crazy this year too! Luckily I stocked up on some tall square cages I got at Canadian Tire & they are foldable for easy winter storage. The dollar store sells great garden steaks too. Definitely recommend those! Thanks for sharing about your experience this year. Something I’ve been doing is watering my plants with banana peel “tea”. It’s supposed to help fertilize them, and seems to have worked well. Plus with the amount of bananas I eat I feel like I’m now getting use of the peel, which is sweet. It’s all I have done, and my plants are pretty abundant this year. That’s really cool about the seaweed! I’ll have to try that too, thanks! Please do that tutorial for the hanging veggie/herb grower!! That looks so awesome & crafty!
