talking about his new shoes
benny " they're so good! "
*gian zooms in* "... ... like comfy? " 😂😅
Nice job again saving the world one sunroof delete at a time
Benny's Panel Works 💪 👍
Benny's new shoes remind me of the Assassins from The Simpsons.
Good to see Benny keeping a lid on things!
Really enjoying the new style of episodes with all the questions! Helps
One trick we used to do when I worked in the body world was use a copper slug/magnet when we would drill through a spot weld. The weld doesn't stick to the copper and you fill the hole very quickly and easily!
Bingo.
@wobblysauce i cant figure out where i know your name from lol. Its been a couple years but its such a legendary username 😂Gotta be a forum or something like that
@@cpzmelbs Been around since the start of the public internet, this name is older then most users.
@@wobblysauce haha well can’t be someone else surely. and I’ve definitely seen it over a long period of time, and some place I’d frequent in order for my worn out brain box to recall it
@@cpzmelbs And that is if you are also Australian.
Copper and zinc both conduct electricity, but copper conducts better. Not only that but copper has a much high vaporisation/burn off point. So zinc is much more likely to burn off in the surrounding areas when you are welding, whereas copper will continue to protect after welding provided you don't go too crazy.
Tip with sikaflex is sticky tape the parts you don’t want goo on then pull tape off after applying sikaflex.
That’s handy!
Thanks.
As a roofer I've always mastic sealed my sunroof shut and disconnected the power making them just a sealed skylight but you could do this too i guess....😳 your a legend Benny
A decent roofer would put a sheet of roofing over it with a gutter and downpipe 🤣
The candid conversations is great, like the one about the door.
Looks like ford oem quality with the slaz
If you accidentally drill all the way through, just put a block of copper or brass on the back while plug welding the new panel on. The weld won’t stick to it.
Good job Benny Fixing Ford FALCOON it will look amazing Well Done Benny👏👏👏👏
I used to wear dunlop volleys for work as I was up and down stairs all day and in and out of peoples apartments. for the work I was doing work boots were 1000% overkill but due to OHS I had to have steel caps. the volleys come in a steel cap version so I got those as they were comfortable and light (good for running up stairs). I used to get pulled up all the time for 'not wearing steel caps', I got so sick of people not believing me that they were I just started threatening to kick people in the shins to prove it, it quickly stopped without me having to actually kick anyone.
Classic Kick test.
Steel caps were designed to cut toes off. Logic behind it was that chopping them off is actually better than having them crushed. Chopped toes can be reattached. Crushed toes and not be fixed and need to be amputated
Who told you that? Because they were lying to you.
The commentary about breaking clutch systems from the firewall makes me reflect on the thin firewalls Subaru put in their Imprezas. I already broke my "fixed" firewall spot welds, i hear it pop and creak from time to time.
great job guys😇
i use reebok composite toe for work, what i think is cool is i can skate in them also
Good job Benny. Another roof pan conversion well done.
Can confirm on the AU manual problems…I had 2 and it’s all true
"Reckon I can get it through the ladder?".
Gold.
gian will be stoving his falcon into the side of this one 🤣
Oh, wow. That took me back to my Austral Denning coach building days. Sikaflex! That green and gritty sikaflex hand cleaner though. I think I've developed a fetishh
Hey Benny. There is a longer belt sander, 18 inch, that has a rubber coated wheel at the end that works better than the steel wheel that is on the 12 inch one you used. Use the 60 grit 3m purple belts and you will get way more life out of the belts. I use 2 belts to completely remove a 1/4 panel or rear body panel. Happy panel-beating!
Whenever i see Yeos, i always think Jeff is to Geoff as Yes is to Yeos
Roof matches the bonnet now haha
Benny, a Spot Weld Drill would save you a good bit of time and sanding belts
I have one and if you watch the episode I explain why.
This is like disrespected nose episodes from mighty car mods
Except Benny is knowledgeable and not annoying.
I`ve glued them on. Perkins paste lol
Been wearing Puma work shoes for over a decade 👌
Jeez- better you than me, Benny-I hate sunroofs
Aren't all drifters panel beaters by default?
Bashers by default.....
Beaters by experience
Beaters by fault usually
…by necessity.
Whilst it's striped why not chuck in a bold in cage . (Even half cage ) than if u bend the car it can come into new shell with you.
Just a thought I know ure doing it budgo so cost is probs the factor
Yes
Thought I was one of the only few that absolutely hates sunroofs
guzzi fabrications master at separating panels
Aaaa contrary to popular belief steel toe boots where actual designed to cut your toes off not crush. The idea was it would cut the toes off and protect the toes so they could be re attached. Love your work guys content is awesome 👍
Surely that’s not true?
@@BennysCustomWorks Yeah it's total bs, they even tested it on mythbusters back in the day
@@BennysCustomWorks it is true it was also tested on good old mythbusters I am taking in an extreme circumstance they would cut your toes off and protect them instead of them being turned into paste.
@@gabeayres541 Was about to say yeah. MB tested it. Basically, if something is heavy n fast enough to crush the steal toecap, it really does not matter if you have one or not, those toes are gone
@@shanedavies5554Correct, you can reattach severed toes. Mince meat toes, no chance.
Bring the bin to the car!!
If you were going to put a roll cage in, it would have been best time to put the roĺl hoops in and fully weld it before adding the second hand roof skin
Yes, IF we were putting a weld in cage. Which we aren’t
I'm wondering why Benny isn't using a spot weld cutting bit to get rid of the spot welds instead of his little sander. A cutter bit would totally fit in that channel so he wouldn't have to cut the corners.
I explain it in the episode.
Only real g’s got the mcm reference
You don’t jump on cars roofs on a daily basis? Amateur.
Thought you'd make it at least through June before going for the long pants. Would a carbide burr be a better way to knock the welds out?
Pants only lasted a day, back to shorts :D
@@BennysCustomWorksGood thing you don't live in Vic. Getting in the car to go to work this morning it was -4.5°C.
Jeezus thats colder than new zealand at the moment@@ashleysharkey6406
@@ashleysharkey6406 Save me, I'm moving from sunny Perth to Ballarat next year...
@@ChristopherHallett my old man was living in Ballarat a few decades ago and can name dates and times when it was snowing. I think you might be in trouble!
Sunroofs = Do not want. If I wanted to wear a hat while driving, I'd get a convertible
swapping to au wind up doors to save weight too?
Nope :D
so little structure in the roof
The structural strength is in the pillars
ford lightning blue?? like on the new mustangs??? hmm
It's called bionic blue on BFs. A one model only paint colour, then it went to Nitro in FG. I think it's close to Grabber Blue in mustangs
Why is weld through primer so annoying to source in Australia... Wurth where the hell am I buying that from lol
The wurth stuff isn’t great. Some paint and panel suppliers have it though
@@BennysCustomWorks I'll do some digging, can't find it local using the Googles
should have just used panel bond
Oxy acetylene cutting is actually the rapid controlled corrosion of metal. heats it up to liquid then a blast of oxygen when you pull the trigger to created essentially a instant controlled rust oxidizing the metal, then the sheer psi or the oxy blast just blows the oxidized metal out of the way, making your "cut"
If you want some good examples of panel replacement techniques checkout vehcor on RUclips and his older videos
Basic way to explain it. The pure oxygen in the oxy basically causes the steel to ignite and vaporise.
I love oxy welding it is a bit of an art but you can get beautiful results with it.
I ask just to understand, why don't remove the motor/assembly/glass and weld a patch instead of replace the entire roof? Same amount of work in the end or other reasons? Thanks :)
Much neater/ no warping
I really hope you paint it something obnoxious
😊😊😊
Less is more
Pants on or off its all good
surprised you didn't just glue a fibreglass or carbon skin on instead
money
Also might not be structural if not done correctly. I'm not sure if it would be easier to weld a sheet in to plug it or of that would be more weight in a bad spot.
@@dweezil6969 the skin is probably like 3% structural, like a bonnet skin or boot skin
