Barring Sunset Boulevard, I'm not abundantly familiar with Gloria's work. However, watching her interviews on YT as I have been for the past couple of days, I can safely say I am a total fan!! She is so awesome!! So smart, articulate, prepared, and gutsy! Most of all, correct!! 40 years later, and we come to find everything she says on interviews like these is right on the money! She is so cool! Her husband seems pretty great too. The way he ended with questioning the funding of that "expert's" organization was golden!
@Dominique Lavalle "she advocates soy galore and whole wheat and nuts" raw organic nuts are beyond healthy dude and organic whole wheat bread, noodles, etc..no bleach and dyes added. Had people listened to what Gloria was warning the world about the dangers of sugar about the food and drug co waaaaay back then, perhaps The United States wouldn't be one of the most obese countries in North America with 36.2% of its population having a body mass index of over 30.0. n guess what it's all SUGAR related why they FAT. Don't need to "get your facts straight" you do. See a kid after he's had sugar? You are what you eat, look around you everybody fat, why? SUGAR!
I like the idea of treating disease with food instead of drugs. Most drugs don't cure disease, just control some of the symptoms. I have a lot of respect for gloria, and she looks great.
My Dad had this book when I was a child...I stopped reading and stopped sugar for 30 days and I list 20 lbs. I am on a journey to a vegetarian lifestyle which I will remove processed sugar. This is a Gem.
What a surprise .... I read that book "Sugar Blues" in the early 2000's referred to me by my alternative health practitioner. It really opened my eyes, great book.
I remember reading her book when I was a teenager because I loved old movies and their stars even when I was a kid. She talked a lot about the regimens she used to stay as fit and healthy as she could. I didn't understand it then as much as I do I now, having studied health and nutrition in university, but she sure was right. And it is worse now. I really believe that the lack of nutrients in our diets caused by processed foods, soil depletion, overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, plus the addition of sugar in everything, has lead to an increase in cancers, diabetes, depression, all kinds of other disorders. When we were kids in the 70's, we didn't get all treats kids do now. They aren't actually treats anymore because kids get them all the time. We had pop once in a blue moon. Chocolate on special occasions. We were free range kids and were playing outside all the time. I remember staying at a babysitter's house and she put sugar on my Cheerios. I wasn't used to that, so I thought it was gross because we didn't eat sugar on everything in our household. I got used to it later, and did my own battle with sugar addiction later in life. I do have some, but I can leave it rather than take it. I suppose I could cut it out even more.
Quack William Darbv (1913-2001), president of the Nutrition Foundation (which we find out at the very end of this program represents food products like Coca-Cola) tells Miss Swanson that sugar content of foods should not have to be stated on nutrition labels because (and I'm quoting him): "because you're going to eat what you like." He's also wrong when he says sugar levels were at their highest in the 1920s; he's also wrong when he says the only danger in sugar is eating more than 20% of your calories in sugar. I can't believe this show has on a stooge like Darby -- and then not disclose that he is paid by the sugary food industry.
10:33 "I tried to kick sugar and I found it was addicting" It has taken almost 40 years for this to become main stream and researched 11:53 this same straw-man argument is still be peddled today. 24:03 William makes the point the amount of sugar should be on packaged foods, the DOCTOR says no it should I love how all these know it all experts have been proven wrong by time
My answer to the quacks . . .er ... doctors, is this : Go right on eating your sugar. Have fun and dont pay us no mind. If a heroin addict wants to defend his use of the junk, well, what can you do. Let them keep using it and die. There are a few who will listen and get off the drugs (like sugar) and those are the ones who will get benefits. The others, well.
I so wished GS would have distinguished processed vs no processed and foods with preservatives. Admire her so much for fighting for this cause and for living an amazing healthy life🥰❤️
Ms. Swanson was correct about the extremely negative impact of sugar on the human body, but she was incorrect to believe that natural forms of sugar were perfectly fine and healthy. Natural forms of sugar are also bad, just a little less bad. Sugar feeds the bad bacteria in the digestive tract, and over time that leads to health problems that will only get worse and worse as long as sugar is consumed to feed the bad bacteria.
I think what Ms. Swanson was saying is that the cumulative effect of all of the sugar that one gets throughout the day through processed foods is way, way more than the sugar one would get from a serving of fruit. Also, the fruit provides many vitamins....so a person is basically able to satisfy their sweet tooth and get nutritional benefits. Added sugar to foods provides nothing. She didn't say these exact words, but that is what I got out of her statements.
Omg if the M.D's "doctors" were spewing this bull crap back then, just think what they're saying today and we as the general public take them at their word. For go the reason I don't go to the doctor now. Pills pills pills

The production of table sugar has a long history. Some scholars claim Indians discovered how to crystallize sugar during the Gupta dynasty, around AD 350.[17] Other scholars point to the ancient manuscripts of China, dated to the 8th century BC, where one of the earliest historical mentions of sugar cane is included along with the fact that their knowledge of sugar cane was derived from India.[18] Further, it appears that by about 500 BC, residents of present-day India began making sugar syrup and cooling it in large flat bowls to make raw table sugar crystals that were easier to store and transport. In the local Indian language, these crystals were called khanda (खण्ड), which is the source of the word candy.[19] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucrose
Don't forget......Living to be 84 back in 1983 was way above life expectancy back then. Like so many have said, she was way ahead of her time and those "experts" would be booed off of television if they said those things today !! I hope she's looking down and getting the last laugh.
Came here to actually hear Dufty, after being a fan of his book for many years. Yes, a piece of lettuce is an organic substance. But (to my knowledge) "organic farming" means that you use only "organic" materials, such as manure, rather than things from a chemist, like synthetic nitrogen compounds. (This is where the term "sustainable" originated, before it was hijacked by New World Order goons.) It is annoying, but not surprising, to see an expert PhD ignorant of this. I get the feeling that their studies are like rationalizations, looking for what they want to find. But I trust there has been progress since this interview was made. Thanks to whoever put this on...
p.s. Whoa, and Gloria mentions Dr. Henry Bieler. I bought and read his book (Food Is Your Best Medicine, which looks at our body and health from the point of view of the glandular system) years ago, but didn't know until now he had a prominent place in the Sugar Blues lineage (along with George Ohsawa, Zen Macrobiotics)
