- A tragic tale of beauty and beasts. As much as he craved companionship and gentleness, the wolf, troubled and broken by his self-imposed isolation, couldn't stop himself from snuffing out the life of a unique and beautiful creature.
What granted her with beauty and specialness, became a double-edged sword, revealing her and painted target on her back as visually faded as her other colors.... usually. The winter was her domain. The snow fields her home, her concealment and shield. What made her stand out at any other time made her nearly invisible in the darkness of a cold Winter's night. Yet... this white shroud could not protect her from a desperate predator.
Like the beauty, the beast stood out among his own kind. His hunger wasn't for flesh, but for gentleness and a warmth that the frigid ice and wind could not touch. Drawn by the thread of kindred spirits, he pursued the beauty in the same way others of his kind did... the exact same way.
Despite his cravings for companionship, despite his sickness at the mere thought of consuming another being, he was a wolf. He could spend his entire life training himself in the way of morals and kindness, but he could never change his blood. This blood drove him to spill others'. In the past... and the present. His body was gaunt, yet... alive, and able.
His quarry could fight, but she couldn't win. In time, the snow that once shielded her in a cold embrace of safety veiled her once again, now engulfing the one who embodied it, stealing away the warmth that the beast had left behind.
From then on, the Apparition of Absaroka would little more than the own legend's name let on: merely an apparition.
