  • Animals have occupied our planet much before we humans did! Even today, humans share a special bond with animals. However, there are certain animals who exist only in the wild - the lion, the tiger, the crocodile, and so many others. Dr. Indira Nityanandam has thrown light on poems written on animals earlier in the series as well. However, this poem is special, as it brings to us a very funny, yet, extremely intelligent way to 'identify' animals.
‪@thestorycafe1602‬, in its constant endeavour to bring to its viewers poems that regale and fascinate, have come up with a gem from the repertoire of Carolyn Wells!
It is a poem that comes to life thanks to the wonderful explanation offered to us by Dr. Indira Nityanandam, in her insightful presentation among the most picturesque settings!

In Caroline's animal poems, the imagery - almost childlike - registers an instant appeal.
"Do you remember..." a gentle nudge to revisit the classical poets and the effect created by figures of speech.

8:02 0:05 Amazing to know the poetess Carolyn Wells with 170 titles to her glory! My friend Indira is a great teacher…I got curious to find the meaning of ‘idyllic’ prompted by her and found it to be -a pleasing or picturesque in natural simplicity. Carolyn beautifully expresses the characteristics of wild animals in the jungles of East. Just imagine a roaring Asian Lion to be eating us or a Leapord leaping upon us OMG Then she calms us with the Bear's Hug, reminds us of the Crocodile tears and camouflage of Chameleons on the trees. Her humorous way brings us closer to such dangerous animals in our imagination.

Beautiful poem no doubt, but the inimitable presentation makes it more interesting!! The lovely modulation of the mood n imagery adds to figures of speech embedded taking the reader to think ‘are animals self-aware’!!! Indira excellent exploration!!
Your choice is, as I always say, like a colourful n variegated salad bowl!!

The poem starts withe word tell which ordinarily would mean inform or say but here it means to disclose or describe. The wild animals do not appear dangerous or harnful but fascinating in their own way with striking stripes of the tiger or the peppered spots of the leopard not to forget the chameleon merging with the background. The poetess has a playful simple humorous approach in portraying these animals as lovable and has a special appeal to children.

(Like Kipling’s ‘If’ Carolyn repeatedly begins with ‘If’…just a thought 😊)… she sounds fatalistic in a humorous way…thank you Ma’am for introducing this amazing writer
