Great video Brian. Thanks and hope you fully recover soon. Love your inspiration for simplifying the gear but I'm not quite ready to fully drop the "bigger" camera yet. But it's only a smallish D500 crop sensor anyway. Heading out on a cruise in a few weeks and because of your inspiration I'm taking only the D500 body and the main N series lens. No extra lenses or gear. Planning to use my iPhone 14 Pro Max for a higher percentage of the picture taking.
Brian, I am so energized about mobile photography. As passionate travelers and photographers, my wife and I spent decades lugging around cases of gear, dealing with the issues that come with expensive, fragile camera equipment-especially during air travel. This summer, while in Italy, we carried four bags of camera gear. However, upon our return, we realized that 90% of our photos were taken with the iPhone 14 Pro, and we loved them. Just recently, we returned from a trip to Mexico City, using only our iPhones. It was our first trip in decades without the big camera kit, and it was a resounding success. Consequently, we have officially parted ways with our entire Sony kit. Also, I must mention that your Lightroom Everywhere course is fantastic. I say that as a seasoned LR user since LR 1.0 was released in 2007.
We're only at the dawn of a new age for mobile photography. It's going to be such an awesome few years ahead with what I expect to be some amazing innovations in mobile photo. And thank you so much for the kind words re: the course, Ron! I really appreciate that!
'Lug' is what I used to do also. All of my Nikon cameras, Nikon glass, and countless other 'essentials' were lugged around by me up and down mountains, on holidays and long treks that I do. Now? All my Nikon gear and 'essentials' are sold and I just use my iPhone 13 Pro Max (soon to be iPhone 15 Pro Max) as my only camera. Other members of my photography group, with their DSLR's and Mirrorless kit just can't believe that the photos I display are taken - with an iPhone! Brian is right. We are on the cusp of a quantum shift in mobile photography and we live in exciting times. How will Nikon, Canon and Sony respond? It will be so interesting to see as respond they must and they know it. I only have the iPad version of Lightroom. Not the desktop version. This video from Brian indicates a greater level of functionality on the desktop compared to iPad. Should I also get the desktop version of LR? Unsure. Any ideas and views welcome?
@@franklovett5813 Nothing to lose Frank, it's all included in the price. LR got pretty much same funcionality and can work on local files easier. Brian has done an excellent video explaining it all.
I think we will move away from calling it 'mobile' or 'smartphone' and simply refer to it as 'photography.' After all, it's about the photo, not the gear.@@brianmatiash
Omg! Thank you! Never used that!!! Really thought this was clickbait - hope everyone checks this out! I use DSLR but sometimes have the iPhone instead and just lucky - this changes the game. Worth the watch (and re-watch) Thank you, sir!!!😎👌
Brian, thank you one again for the Lightroom video. I have a couple of questions related to your using the iPhone as your landscape camera. Are using supplemental lenses like those from Moment and others? If so which ones? They seem to change with each new iPhone model. Second question comes from an Apple guy that has owned iPhones since the iPhone 1. Have you considered using an Android Phone? Many of them have very good cameras as well. This question arises from a youtube video by Evan Ranft reviewing the OPPO N3 open. It has a camera that Hasselblad is willing to put their name on. The phone is sold in the US as the OnePlus Open. It's fairly expensive but hey a Hasselblad....!
Hi Brian, I recently purchased a new iMac to complement my iPad Pro when working with Lightroom. Just when I thought I was getting the ‘hang’ of using Lightroom on the iPad along comes Lightroom for the desktop which has a whole range of different ‘quirks’? For instance I cannot find how to email photos. All RUclips videos show how to email on Lightroom Classic! Do your tutorials show how to email photos on Lightroom? Cheers Chris … from Adelaide Australia where it was 41 degrees Celsius today!
Hey Chris! Lightroom Desktop doesn't have an email component to its sharing functionality. As such, it's not something covered in my course or YT videos. The primary method of sharing is to export the file to your drive and attach it to an email. I hope that helps!
I hope you have a wonderful 2024, too! And you can rest assured that I’ll be here to help anyone, especially Classic users, navigate these changes. Always happy to help!
OK, did not realize you were on desktop. Your screen looked like a mobile version, and I thought it was perhaps a beta version. Thank you again for great information.
Thank you for prompt reply. Which camera app on iPhone would you recommend? I normally use Apple built in Camera app, I also have Lightroom camera (never used) but perhaps there is something better in App Store?! Happy New Year to you and your family! Your great videos made me switch from LrC to Lr and I am very happy so far.@@brianmatiash
Thank you! Feeling better every day, but the scratchy throat always takes longest to heal. And I’m with you - I’d LOVE the range control tool on mobile… at least on the iPad. Happy New Year to you, too!!
Great video as usual. On my iPad lens blur shows as a lens blur icon and I have limited selections. How do I get the lens blur selections that you demonstrate in the edit selection?
I believe Brian explained that the iPad version has less lens blur options than the desktop version. This is another reason I am thinking of upgrading my Adobe plan to include the desktop version of LR.
Another amazing video, thank you. Side note ?. Would you consider a New (March 24 iPad Pro M3???) or a Macbook Pro M3 for a best option for your editing ? Ultimately I'm looking to upgrade my iMac 2017 27" boot SSD. I also have a 2018 iPad Pro & a base M1 Macbook air. The LR Local feature of a Macbook M3 is leading me down this path. I have a 32" UHD 4K monitor for my iPad & Macbook.
That’s a great question. While I love my iPad Pro, I’m still not ready to abandon macOS. And while LR Mobile is exceptionally capable, LR Desktop still has a number of features that I absolutely need. So, I’d get the best M3 Max laptop that your budget supports (focus on maximizing RAM), and get a second hand M1 iPad Pro (that’s what I did). My M1 iPad Pro still runs Lightroom ridiculously fast and I have zero complaints.
You certainly sharpened my knowledge about Lens Blur. Thanks !!!
Grateful to hear it, Stephen! Thank you!

Great video, Brian! Beautiful photos! I am looking for how to get my photos from my iphone 14 pro into LRC. Thanks!
this should be very helpful!

Have a great New Year Brian. I’m hoping you can help us LR classic users navigate the changes to Adobe cloud before they roll around

I always use ProRaw.

Great tips
I’ve not used Lens Blur but might play around with it in 2024. (Blake and Matt have my brain workin overtime with what I’m learning from them! 🤯)
Yup, Matt and Blake are good like that! 😄
Definitely don’t sleep on Lens Blur. It’s so good… at low strength.
@@brianmatiash I’ll definitely keep that in mind. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video, Brian, I think I’ll give this a go! Hope you’re feeling better.
Great video! Wishing you more success for the new year!
Thanks
You’re welcome!
Very helpful - thanks.
You’re welcome, Roger!
