@@christopherreynolds4506 They don't require oxygen so that would be less efficient for them than having a ton of small space capable vessels packed to gills with bots that can just drop them off anywhere they need and can be reused.

How I'd give anything, to be machine. To have no fear of death, only the eternity of digital consciousness, of ever replenish-able metal. If only dreams could become reality. *Editing. It amuses me that some have chosen to mention books, or specified beings that should be an example as to why an eternity would be a bad fate to have. Allow me to add this here. I do not, and will never care, about the faults and "Curses" of immortality, be it through some twist of mystical magic, or eternally cold machinery. I'd gladly, still take such an eternal life over a life that will one day end. I'd gladly walk the Earth for as long as it stands, float through the depths of the void of space, pulled through black holes and shot out elsewhere time and time again, if it meant I still lived to think, to create, to imagine. I'd give anything, for a true eternity. Because to me, knowing that everything could end before I'm ever satisfied with myself and my accomplishments, scares me far more then an eternity alone.
I'm sorry that some disagree, and I understand why they would. I am not trying to convince anyone, to want the same thing. If you prefer a normal life that will one day end so you can rejoin your loved ones in the after lives, or reincarnate, or whatever it is you may believe, that is perfectly fine, and I wish all the best for you. I simply, do not wish the same for myself. To anyone who reads this far into an edited comment, I hope you have a wonderful life, and please stay safe.

If it helps you are already a machine, still work on a electrical network, and are made to replenish yourself with ions, polymers and some metals. Improving on things or reorienting them is of course still a goal.
