Challenging, stimulating and understandable. You are a rare gem on youtube
I’m an adult beginner piano player. I really enjoyed this. Thank you. Love your playing and I can, surely, see you thoroughly enjoy teaching and have a love for it. Thanks for sharing your wonderful gift.
What Tony demonstrates is the importance of musicianship which is like the rest of an iceberg that is below the surface. Great insights.
your classes are the bests in youtube, you are able to teach "girl from ipanema" clearly in just 14 minutes congratulations

Thank you so much. I am soaking this in and making notes...
I saw many videos on tritone substitution theory, but still didn't feel like i got it. Nothing better than to learn by a practical example of song so dear to me. Thanks!
Tony, I love this analysis. I keep returning to it. Thank you for the upload.

Tony, may I ask a question? Do you think the rhythm as written in real book 1 is a good representation of bossa nova, or are there better ways to play this song rhythmically? I've heard different versions. Thank you if you find the time to reply.
Beautiful Teaching! What model is that metronome?
Great stuff Tony.
Questions:
1. What does the sign on the chord layout that looked like a division in maths mean?
2. I noticed you play most of the chords in root position as oppose to inversions for economy of movement of the left hand. Any reason for that, and any tips for quickly recognising the inversions required as that is my bug bear.
3. Why does the chording show Gb M7 in one part and then F# M7 (which is the same chord) in another part?
Thanks for all your videos, much appreciated from a greenhorn novice jazz enthusiast. Cheers.
1. It just means repeat the previous measure.
Lydian Dominant scale... Okay
Blindfolded - Bossa Nova by composer Fabio Valente🎸🎤🎙️🎵
I have a question: at 9:42, on D7 you play a "Diminished major 7" chord in your left hand (5, b7, b9, #4). That's a great sound! There is not the major 3rd. Means that is it a supended chord?
P.s. ok, ok... you got the 3rd at the end of the beat, on the dimished chord :)
No. It is D7 with a b9 and #11. When you have a lot of tension on a dominant 7th chord, you can leave out the 3rd or the 7th and the chord will still sound 'right'. It's a rootless voicing. Good question!
Thanks for clarifying the concept! Very easy to reach that voicing from the basic Minor 7 chord on a II-V and the sound is superb... Any chance for a tutorial on "Agua de beber"? I'd like to learn "Mayden voyage" too. Hope for both, you're a great teacher.
Maybe, I don't really know either of those... and I should!
like watching someone build a car engine... WHa??
A
