People are just stuck looking at it through the lenses of Emily is replacing Chester. That isn’t the case. People don’t want her to replace him, and yet turn around and get upset that she doesn’t sound just like him. Like, what do you want? Again those same “fans” are selfish as hell. This is something the Band wants to do. Their opinions really don’t matter at the end of the day

Very well said. Selfish is the exact correct term. I'm only a casual LP fan (have the first 2 albums) but 100% support their decision to reconnect with each other and make music together again and play those old songs that they wrote together. They mourned the loss of their friend and bandmate but life goes on and real 'fans' should empathise, understand and support that.

Seeing Mike's happiness should be enough for LP supporters to embrace Emily and this new phase of the band. She is not replacing anyone, the band is moving to a new phase and that is awesome for them to be able to.

Nothing to not like. She's great, the band likes her, Chester would've approved. Not sure what people want or expect?
It wouldn't be fair to the band not to do the Chester songs, they lost him so they shouldn't lose their whole catalog too.
Some people are saying her voice cracked but it wasn't her vocals it was her being emotional because the fans were accepting her. Of course it was emotional, can you imagine the relief she was feeling?

I've seen a number of people piss and moan and whine about her replacing Chester. I watched the hour long interview with the band, and Mike said she's not replacing him. She said she's not replacing him. If anything, she wants to honor him.
Just like Queen with Adam Lambert, after Freddie passed, Brian and Roger wanted to continue. Around 10 years later, they went out with Paul Rodgers. A few years after that, they started touring with Adam. In an interview with Brian, Roger, and Adam, they all said there's no replacing Freddie. They all said that Adam said he was carrying on Freddie's legacy. Brian and Roger also stated having Adam around lead to them playing songs that haven't been done in many years as Adam goes through their vast catalog and picks stuff to bring back out.

I read a comment somewhere that was very corny but actually sums it up very nicely.
Chester's voice was the angst of youth. Emily's is the rage of adulthood.
Chester's scream sounded more... Melancholy. Like he was crying out. Emily's sounds more rebellious, like she's screaming AT you.

The new song with Emily is a solid 9 out of 10, even the live was good. Her performances on these specific LP songs from this specific night is a 6 or 7. I can't wait to hear the new album in Nov.!

I was at the live concert. It was a very intense and emotional rollercoaster. I will always miss Chester however I'm interested in seeing how she improves with the live shows as she gets more comfortable and finds her place. I can only imagine how nervous she was. Wishing all the best to Linkin Park and looking forward to their new music.

I personally feel like adding someone who was basically Chester’s vocal twin would have been the worst possible decision. They needed new singer with their own voice and identity. Otherwise it would seem like they were trying to straight up “replace” him.
I think adding a Chester copycat would have been more disrespectful to his memory, and not only that… people would still say “it’s not Chester”
Love Emily, love that the band looks happy. I’m here for it

Great reaction and discussion. The whole live show it felt like Emily was growing in confidence and that’s what I liked. Realistically this is the worst they’ll sound as time will help grow her confidence and chemistry, not just with the band but with the fans.
Most songs were a big hit with me, especially the last 2 or 3, Bleed It Out was amazing.

Pros: she has a good voice; LP 2.0
Cons: Her phrasing (at least on this song) sounds very choppy; LP 2.0 will never sound like the original
The test will really be their new material; her singing the old favorites may be regarded as covers by many fans.

One parallel 'argument' that I have yet to see/hear is that Alice In Chains went through something similar after Layne's passing. William isn't Layne...but, who is? I, for one, love the new AiC as much as I did the original. And, I feel like I'm going to go down a similar path relative to the new Linkin Park. It might be difficult for some people to accept (the Emily isn't Chester club)...but, I look at it like this, they call themselves Linkin Park and that's good enough for me.

I just consider it like a Guest singer on the old stuff, No one will ever be able to do what Chester did. Then any New stuff. Will be their New Stuff.. Think like that, then can at least Accept the differences and not just steam over the sound being off.. Don't know if anyone knows ol school Rock like Skid Row? They just toured with Lizzy Hale of Halestorm.. Different but ....., a Band that wants to continue, and respect what they all did regardless of missing the lead singer.. Why shouldn't they enjoy it all too? As well as the audience with them. Again, different but its OKAY to be that..✌️🤟

There's no perfect solution to this. Would I take Chester over Emily? Any day. 99,99% of the fanbase would agree.
But it's just not possible anymore. Its hard and it's sad, but its the reality. And at concerts, fans still would love to hear Linkin Park classics they grew up with - and someone has to sing them. And that someone is Emily. It's different, it's something we gotta get used to.
If we support her and give her some time, she will be great. She shows some great potential. "Faint" was probably her best performance that night, sounded really great. I bet she was super nervous that night. Getting exposed to millions of fans across the world who didn't know you before... sounds super scary to me.
I'm more worried about her "controversial" past.. there's alot of stuff going on, people are furious. Hope it all turns out well. I want Linkin Park to succeed. With her. I really liked the new single (please react to it ^^) and I can't wait for the album

Ok so I am sure to catch some hate for my opinions but I do not like her singing the old songs that Chester was known for.. it may as well be karaoke.. I want to remember those songs as Chester sang them. Chester is irreplaceable. Maybe having her sing new songs with the old band is fine…But I do not enjoy her singing his songs. And yes I am sure there will be people to tell me it was really Mike’s band but it was Chester’s unique sound that made the songs come alive. Sorry not sorry.

Opinions are welcome. I understand your thoughts. But without Chester, and knowing that Fans will want to hear those songs regardless, how do you suggest they do that? Anybody could sound Karaoke if not Chester right? (simply devil's advocate)

    • @Emilie-one

@@zack_reacts I would prefer they focus on making new music and leave the old songs alone. I guess I will just have to listen to their music on my old CD’s so I can enjoy the music how I love it.
Many bands lost lead singers but I stopped listening to them with replacements. When Steve Perry left Journey, when Lou Gramm left Foreigner, it wasn’t the same. Maybe I will come around, maybe LP will just be a band I used to love… I need time . RIP Chester. 💔

@@Emilie-oneit's not like they're rerecording everything all their old stuff with a new vocalist. Fans go to live shows to hear their favorite songs, and they'll go knowing Chester can't be there, but can listen and enjoy the memories those songs brought with his spirit through her. She was a Linkin Park fan from the beginning too and I'm sure Chester still meant as much to her as every other fan.

When they perform the old songs live Chesters % of the prs royalties is likely going to his wife and kids now. People who aren't in music industry probably don't realise that. Likely to be thousands of dollars a show. So not only are LP getting to play their songs live again for fans to enjoy but also they are helping support Chester's family. That's how I see it.

I’m fine with her singing old linkin park songs. In my opinion she has big shoes to fill and to have someone being able to sing his old songs is a must which she did honestly. She’s not replacing Chester, this is Chester’s final good bye to us. He’s passing the torch to her so don’t think she’s replacing him. Also God bless you Chester for giving us this new singer, you may rest in peace now.
