    Love to see first reactions to whiskies with a reputation like this one.
    If you can't get springbank and you are curious you can also try to go for the campbeltown loch blend to get an idea of it as it's a blend of campbeltown whisky including springbank.

    • @TheCrumbyBeard
      @TheCrumbyBeard  8 месяцев назад

      I've always been toying with the idea of a bottle of the Campbeltown Loch blend, how do you rate it against the Springbank line up and some of the Glen Scotia offerings?

    • @TimHoekstra
      @TimHoekstra 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheCrumbyBeard It's mainly a blend of springbank and kilkerran with a teaspoon of glen scotia. There have been some bourbon forward releases and some sherried ones with the sherried one becoming the mainstay. I rate them about the same as the springbank 10 it's very very close in terms of quality.

    Great review, if you like this you’ll probably also love the Kilkerran 12 which is absolutely lovely. Was easier to get hold of at one point but quickly becoming just as difficult to get hold of sadly. Worth a try/review if you can get hold of one though!

    • @TheCrumbyBeard
      @TheCrumbyBeard  8 месяцев назад +1

      Great shout! How peated is the Kilkerran in comparison? More heavily peated whiskies give me heart burn almost instantly which is annoying. I do however have a bottle of Hazelburn 10 that I picked up down there as well which I’m excited to get in to.

    • @jamiespeight7746

    Craigellachie 13 is often recommended as an alternative to Springbank 10 if someone can't find Springbank! It's impossible for me to find anymore here in Vancouver. Love this expression. I am just finishing a dram of the 18! Cheers!

      @TheCrumbyBeard  8 месяцев назад +1

      Oh interesting! Certainly easier to come by, I often hear the same thing said of Benromach - have you tried anything from them?

    • @christinecamley
      @christinecamley 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheCrumbyBeard Yes I agree and I have also heard whisky RUclipsrs mention Benromach as a great substitute for Springbank. I have had Benromach 10 and 15. They are delicious and you save a lot compared to Craigellachie and Springbank!! Lol! They are very reasonably priced. Scotch is sure going up in cost - astronomically! Yikes! Great chatting! 🙂

    Nice review. Just bought a bottle here in Belgium and had to pay €69 for it.

    • @TheCrumbyBeard
      @TheCrumbyBeard  8 месяцев назад +2

      Considering shipping and everything that is such a bargain, I can't buy at that price here unless I do the 450 mile drive to the distillery! (And even then stock levels aren't guaranteed!)

    Haven't physically seen a bottle of Springbank in about three years now. Saw a Longrow a few months back and kick myself for not picking it up. Springbank went from relative 'obscurity', to unobtainium in very short order.

    • @TheCrumbyBeard
      @TheCrumbyBeard  8 месяцев назад +1

      Always fascinating when that happens, I've seen it a few times in the craft beer world and trying to pin-point the catalyst is always a fun challenge. I don't have any Longrow but I did manage to grab a Hazelburn while I was there which I'm looking forward to. Cheers!

    Haven't tried any of the springbank products, but doubt I could afford them if I did. Hopefully in the future it will be less hyped. Thanks for the video. P.s I hate how you shake glass 😅 my wife does that same way

    • @TheCrumbyBeard
      @TheCrumbyBeard  7 месяцев назад +1

      I'm sure one day you'll manage to find a bottle at a reasonable price, it just may take a few years! I wasn't aware I'd done anything odd with the glass so I'll have to watch it back! 😂 Cheers!

    Absolutely one of my favourite whiskies so it's such a shame it's so hard to get now. Fortunately, I've got two unopened bottles (including one in the old bottle/box, which I think looks a bit classier) in my stash. I've got two bottles of the 12 year old cask strength too. Really looking forward to trying those.

    Springbank smells and tastes like a barn on a sheep farm, with a pile of wet, rotting hay inside, near an old tractor leaking lots of oil.
