My cheapest flight recently would have been KUL-BKK. The two hour flight was around $42 on AirAsiaX. That included adding FastPass (for priority exit immigration and security at KUL, increased carry on allowance to 14kg so no checked bags, and priority one boarding), a prepaid meal and beverage, and a bulkhead "Hot Seat" with extra leg room where I had the four seats in the row to myself. At meal time I had them place the food on the seat tray next to mine so I wasn't blocked in.
Amazing review mate, i did a similar flight in Batik business class from KL to Langkawi for around $90USD last year (meanwhile most economy class flights in Malaysia seem to be under $30 bucks! I Think it must it all come down to lack of taxes on fuel over in Malaysia. I remember getting a Grab from KL to the Genting Highlands for under $20aud a journey of 55km i was shocked how cheap transportation can be there compared to Australia or even neighbouring Thailand.
I took a $19 flight recently from Boston to PHL but that fare only allowed a laptop type bag and no seat assignment. Still, pretty good and I got Priority Pass access to an Air France lounge a few feet from the gate. Cheap fares in the US you need to travel with only the stuff you're wearing.
I reckon the cheapest I've ever taken was two years ago with Vueling between LIS and Bilbao, and I was pleasantly surprised ... even with the add-ons of priority boarding and seats up front.
In July of 2022, I flew Cebu Pacific from Kuala Lumpur to Manila, the flight is good and okay, 3 and a half hours, 1 way, I pay $80 and it's super cheap. Last June, I flew China Eastern from Ho Chi Minh to London via Shanghai, both flights is okay, my 1st flight is operated by the Airbus A330-300 (B-8972) in the newer cabin on a 3 and a half hour red eye flight to Shanghai, but it's uncomfortable because the seatbelt sign is on for the whole flight, but some passengers, including me use the lavatory, even though there is no turbulence and my 2nd flight is operated by the Boeing 777-300ER, my flight to London is 11 and a half hours, but the cabin is hot because there is no air vent, my 1st flight, even in the newer cabin don't have air vent, 1 way, I pay $390 and it's very cheap. And last July, I flew Airasia Malaysia from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur and the flight is good, 1 hour, 1 way, I pay 80 Malaysian Ringgit and it's really cheap. In August, I am flying Jetstar from Sydney to Honolulu and I am looking forward to my 9 hour flight to Hawaii, 1 way, I pay less than $300 and it's really cheap.
I am not traveling alot so i didn't know the airfares of domestic flights in Malaysia are so cheap, eight dollars for an hour flight can't beat that anywhere. For me i thought domestic airfares in Vietnam are cheap but in Malaysia even cheaper, job well done Patrick.
Malaysia has relatively cheap fuel prices and the government mandates that transportation in general is affordable and promotes social equity as well, the government regulates fares to ensure they are affordable for the population in general, and the government provides subsidies for fuel which we know is the major contributor to running an airline- great video Patrick , having said that I wouldn’t personally fly Malindo, Batik or any of those carriers in Indonesia or Malaysia , just based on my overall feeling of safety
what a great value all around and i think your assessment of the rationale for the value seems to make sense. i'm late with my comment #boofriggs almost forgetting your Sunday episode as i lose track of time here in YYC lol
KL to Penang return on Malaysian Airlines business class $53. Great lounge in KLIA. On return to KLIA we had an international flight with MH so I bags were checked right through from Penang. We received 3 drinks & a big snack box plus a bottle of water. Lovely cabin crew. Every seat was taken in business class. Another fabulous flight review, thank you.
Not counting PeopleExpress ($19 OW from EWR to BWI, BTV and BOS), $98 RT JFK - SEA on Eastern Airlines, via IAH in 1986. They were red eye 727 cargo flights which paid for the operation, so they sold the passenger seats for some incremental revenue.
Malaysia also has second city airport in subang which offers flights to penang with ATRs and also electric trains which runs at top speed of 160kmh.so airlines are not only competing with buses in Malaysia
There is a potential catch to the low price. The airline skimping on required safety measures. Some of these low cost carriers in Southeast Asia do have a sketchy safety record. Especially since the aviation regulatory environment in some of these Southeast Asian countries are somewhat...unreliable and prone to corruption.

The cheapest fare for me was between SFO and SEA on Reno Air for $11 each way back in the early 1990's.

Awesome! That FastPass at KUL has been a lifesaver for me before

Yea it’s definitely cheap. Wouldn’t surprise me if the fuel taxes had something to do with it
If only domestic flights here in the U.S. was this cheap. But then again there’s Spirit or Frontier, so long as you’re only bringing a personal item 😅
Lol yea true… although you aren’t getting a true business class on those carriers

That ain’t bad for the US. If you can keep yourself to limited luggage then you’re better off for sure

Honestly most of Southeast Asia has cheap flights… just not THIS cheap
In the late 80s I flew a Delta flight in coach for the short hop from West Palm Beach to Ft. Lauderdale and that fare was $32.00.
that much for a flight is already great but with a mcchickky and fries just made it so much better
Forreal! That McD’s really makes it
boppin around malaysia' is crazy
Was about to say happy Eid or Eid Mubarak, that's what we say after Ramadan 🎉🎊🎂
They really did an excellent job ! Best flight deal ? Cleveland to Miami with stops in Pittsburgh and Orlando . Flight left CLE around midnight .
Dang that’s a hike!

Ha! Better late than never!
Note that Batik Air is the full service brand of LCC Lion Group / Malindo.
The actual low cost aircraft they operate are economy only.
Good to know. Thanks!

Amazing video! Definitely subscribed!
Thanks!
$8 won’t even get you from SFO to Downtown SF on BART. My cheapest ever flight was $60 USD one way from Eilat Israel to Tel Aviv Israel.
8 USD for a one-hour flight and 50 in business class is insanely cheap. We pay through the nose in Africa for flights of similar duration.
Yea… unfortunately aviation is taxed like crazy in Africa and makes its unaffordable to lots of people
WOAH! $58!? Nice Snag!!
The whole plane smelling like McD’s is hilarious 😂
I mean… it was a tasty meal for a 1 hour flight 😂🤷♂️
@@PatrickSheaAviation Don’t get me wrong, I love my McDonalds!!

Idk if safety and cost are direct correlations. Most likely has more to do with taxes and competition
@@PatrickSheaAviation Not in a poorly regulated environment like in some Southeast Asian countries. Cost savings does have safety implications there.
Your departure runway was extremely bumpy. The wing was flopping up and down.
Oh yes… very turbulent
