    *"My whole life, I've hated you. Not because I knew you but because I thought you hated me too."*
    That's actually relatable on many levels. As someone who's shy and reserved, some people thought I disliked them and thus disliked me in return. On larger levels, some people hate entire groups of people because they think they are hated by them. If only we all tried to get to know people before making assumptions. I suppose people just want to feel loved and accepted. Maybe we fear verfiying that our interpretation is true and thus make a judgement ourselves to prevent being hurt. At the root of most of our problems and hate is fear. If only we chose to confront our fears rather than let it shape our visions and who we are.

    as a high school debater who debates just as fast and high pace as this, it's actually surprising seeing a comment section this positive about debate
    yes, we actually speak that fast, and yes having a partner is really just as frustrating sometimes as this movie portrays it
    usually in comment sections of anything related to debate like this it's a bunch of people who say this kind of debate is trash, so i appreciate all the positive comments

      Sure. What happens is that they are different markets and many times that is what we do not understand that we can see a movie wherever we see it (it does not always have to be Netflix) and it's okay that we don't like it or that we like it a lot, that's why I always say that when many people or critics say "See it is the best movie of life or don't see it is the worst movie of the year",your candle, why you might like it and that's fine, you don't always have to see or have to spend what is in everyone's vogue. Greetings!!

    Netflix needs to fire whoever is editing these trailers for their films. Reality High, Amateur, Dude, and now this one? All of these coming of age films that have the potential to genuinely spark interest in people have the plot ruined by their trailers. Whatever happened to less is more?

    Turned it on expecting another generic high school romance to pass the time. Even though it has some of those elements I was very surprised how much I enjoyed this movie.
    The highlight for me was the chemistry between the two characters. Nothing too spoiler heavy, but there is a montage where they show a progression of their relationship that felt so natural that it was as if I was watching the two actors themselves getting to know each other while filming went on. There were some other plot points that I wasn't expecting which gave the story a little more life and oomph which I was grateful for. Overall if you're looking for a movie to fill that coming of age romance void for a bit you won't be disappointed giving Candy Jar a shot.

    This had a real heart and soul to it and even the moral of it was on point.
    I know not EVERYTHING needs a sequel....but I kinda hope they get one.(Surely if we can get 3 kissing booth movies they can also give us a sequel to an actual high quality movie).

    2 students that completely disagree with each other are forced to work together to realize that they have more in common than they thought. They eventually develop a romance for a each other. Towards the end of the season they have a fight or some sort of conflict to create tension. Ultimately they reunite and compete. They end up winning or they realize that they don't really want what they originally wanted and sets up for a second season. Yup ill come back to this comment after and see how close I was.

    "My whole life, I've hated you. Not because I knew you but because I thought you hated me too."
    I related to this so much. There was this one girl at my high school, we used to sit at the same table during lunch during freshman year because our whole group knew each other from elementary and middle school, my homeboys sat with me and her girl friends sat with her. After a while, i just didn't like her because she actually had a pretty messed up attitude. During sophomore year, we still talked but it was all shallow conversations, she said that she thought I hated her guts, which I honestly did but when she said that to me I thought she didn't like me either because I didn't approve of her attitude when everyone else sucked up to her. During senior year, we had these things for college prep, I sat next to her mistakenly and I played it off as if i did sit next to her on purpose, as the session went on we talked and I felt like we were keeping a facade the whole time. The next day, during lunch, i was sitting with my friends, who are completely different from the friends i sat with during freshman year (go figure), she came up to me and said "Hi, whats up". She waited for a response and I was kind of confused and i didn't know what to say, I still had that mentality of "we don't like each other, therefore this conversation should be in-existent" , i said "hi (girl's name)" and there was awkward silence, and then she walked away, after that i kind of felt bad. I started trying to be nicer and saying stuff like "you did a good job during the performance" (we were both in performance choirs). There is still this awkward thing where she still has this attitude but then she acts nice sometimes, and sometimes I feel like she thinks everyone hates her and is fake towards her because of her attitude, so i dont know. And to make things even weirder we are attending the same University. if you made it this far, that means i did an okay job at summarizing why i feel that this quote relates to my life.

    I'm excited. As a debater it's nice to see a series about high school debate, not what we usually get (e.g. high school football, cheerleading, or a coming-of-age movie about outcasts). I feel like I'll be able to relate to this, which isn't true for a lot of movies aimed at high schoolers, as high school debate as a genre isn't common.
    also, does anyone know if this is meant to portray policy debate?

Until one of the two gets a pep talk from a wiser, older person. Then they apologize to each other and come together to get the trophy, beating all the odds that were against them.

    Just once can we have this end in them NOT shacking up? At best this would be a high school romance, the vast majority of which leads to NOTHING. I had a high school girlfriend, hell, all of my friends had high school romances. Literally none of them last past college.

    • @saitamatrash2527
      @saitamatrash2527 6 лет назад +92

      Galactic123 they will probably get together and just cuz your friends relationships didn’t last doesn’t mean some don’t. “High school sweethearts” who’ve been married 20 years are a thing that’s happening.

    • @335449286
      @335449286 6 лет назад +39

      rare as fuck tho just because some get married doesn't mean its a reflection on the vast majority of individuals

      One out of maybe a million high school relationships last.

    • @r.s6187
      @r.s6187 6 лет назад +55

      I'd looove to see them staying friends instead of starting some high school romance. And then perhaps showing them as successful adults, established in their careers and still friends with a hint that they'll bloom romantically now. Or have them go to separate colleges and fall out a little, then meet back up as adults, reconnect and begin dating. Or something along those lines! It is a sad reality that a lot of high school relationships don't make it into adulthood, as people change sooo much from high school to adult age. So I'd love to see them as mature young adults/adults and starting a romance then, once the craziness of college and finding a job is settled.
      I'm totally looking waaay too much into a movie I haven't even seen yet but this does look admittedly cute!!

    Wow, I think Netflix is on to. After years of seeing only a few private films like Thumbsucker and the Great Debaters allude to general debate rather than the nuanced trends of policy, it's pretty incredible to see the company writing such a show. They even based the fictional "Association for National Debate" off of the National Speech and Debate Association (similar logos). Needless to say, it looks pretty good

    • @steppininaslidezone5988
      @steppininaslidezone5988 6 лет назад +2

      if you listen to the speeches, they were negating an old pf resolution (costs of college education outweighs the benefits). it almost seems like the movie/show is portraying some weird inaccurate mish mosh of policy and pf, which annoys me a bit

    • @dainross5321
      @dainross5321 6 лет назад +1

      Public forum doesn't involve spreading though. You're right though :/

    • @steppininaslidezone5988
      @steppininaslidezone5988 6 лет назад

      that's my point - real pf is slow as hell even at the toc level, yet this movie is clearly showing pf debate at far higher than conversational speeds (though i wouldn't say what they've shown is as fast as actual spreading in ld/cx)

    • @rkgk1517
      @rkgk1517 6 лет назад +1

      If you want to see films that actually go into a little bit of the nuances of debate, A Sort of Homecoming (also on Netflix) does this, and also the film Rocket Science gets pretty close - it's a little bit in Love & Debate but not much.

    • @dainross5321
      @dainross5321 6 лет назад

    looked this up not knowing it was about debate. was immediately hit with spreading, scrambling to put together the stand, those timers everyone collectively agreed to use for some reason, "is anyone not ready", aggressive hand-waving ... this is going to be wild
