- Some of you may remember I posted a storyboard for this a year ago. Recently I got the motivation to work on it and have been going at it vigorously for a month.

When I heard the cover of this song it made me think of Hailstorm as he admires the Ice Kingdom, but inside he's conflicted because of his time as Pyrite. Influence from the original Prince of Eygpt film of course as it is Moses going through a similar struggle.
Icewings are my favorite tribe so this video was fun to make. I wanted to show off the ice kingdom, though I could not put as much glory and detail as I would have liked I think it emulates its beauty well enough.

As mentioned below, I really hope we'll see more of Hailstorm in a future book. He did so much to protect Winter and Icicle from their parent's cruelty and abuse. And almost alone of all the Icewings, he's known the beauty and the pain not only of his own Tribe, but that of being a Skywing as well. The scenes in Book 7 where he's torn between the memories of both swimming in the cold deep Artic Ocean, and flying high over the Mountains. Expereincing Life as both Male and Female. A really amazing charcater that needed more book time, and that I hope we'll see more of.

Seriously though amazing job once again! Hailstorm is such an underrated character and I'm glad he's getting more attention. He's always been a character that I've wanted to get back to, if only to see some more of how Pyrite continues to affect him. The whole Pyrite situation in general is terrifying, especially seeing how it affected Winter; he had it on for only a couple of a minutes, *and* the enchantment was modified, but we still got to see how terrified and traumatized he was from it the instant he took it off. And then you remember that Hailstorm had it on for years... it must be horrible for him to constantly question his own identity and doubt if he's even himself anymore.
Do you have *any* idea how happy I am that Hailstorm is getting more recognition? Maybe it's just me not being in the fandom 100% of the time, but I swear, he gets too little time from both fans and Tui!
I love all my dumb ice cubes, but Hailstorm has a special place in my heart. He is the definition of what dumb ice cubes should be; powerful and skilled warriors yet loyal and caring towards those they care about. Even though he may seem like an ordinary dumb ice cube that is suprisingly good at what he does, I cannot help but feel like he doesn't entirely approve of their ways, especially after the Pyrite incident, but even before that. Once you learn something, it's hard to let go of it, especially if you want to but everyone expects better of you. They all see him as a powerful warrior and his return was a stunning one, but accepted nonetheless. He probably felt conflicted with how everyone still expects him to be the best and what he learned at the Sky Kingdom, trying to prove that whatever happened is gone, but it is still at it's wake, and honestly, if Tui wants to show us the ways of Icewings in the future via a Winglet or another book, she'd make a huge mistake if Hailstorm didn't get at least one chapter.
I am a sucker for books that portray something naturally considered bad as a good thing, such as Mapleshade's Vengeance, and we'd get that from quite a lot of Icewings, but Hailstorm would show us more than that, and probably, it would be what we need. We've had paranoid seer and mind reader, insecure identity princess(es), more insecure folks, traumatized and unique, but all of those were mostly sorted out. Moonwatcher is getting calmer, Snowfall and Sunny are making big changes about themselves, Qibli is Qibli and I don't care about him, and pretty much all protagonists and important background characters that aren't villains. Hailstorm not only is still hella confused, but forced to the old ways he has already forgotten, only for them to suddenly come back up. And he isn't going to change; Pyrite can and will still haunt him forever until he properly gets told off that whatever is happening isn't okay. What he sees, hears, knows, isn't true nor false, almost like a reoccurring nightmare. His mind isn't just confused, but broken and never going back to what is considered healthy. This isn't something you can just throw away with a relationship like Tui likes to do, that is permanent condition which will be his weight to carry until he drops to the ground and never returns.
Hailstorm's not a character you can just write like Qibli, Turtle, or other sad depresso character. His thoughts and beliefs aren't real, and honestly, I think that's what would make the book stand out. The enemy isn't something old that we must kill, but something new that doesn't exist anywhere else but our mind. Something we cannot rid of, but must learn to accept, and I have a feeling that with how Snowfall is changing the Ice Kingdom, he can do that, even if the book isn't long enough to show that.
Anyway, I guess I live in a different time zone, cause that premier is happening *very* late for me, haha! I'll see if I can watch it live, and hopefully comment my thoughts after - adore you Lamp for this PMV, I've been a long time watcher, even if it's my first time commenting! It's amazing to see you still make Wings of Fire content such high quality, especially with everything happening right now. Even if I cannot support you financially yet, I will try to do so in other ways!
*Edit after the premiere;* I am truly stunned! Not only is the PMV amazing, I was genuinely surprised to hear Jonathan's cover used, as I didn't check which one was used before the video started. Knew that voice was familiar! But this isn't Jonathan's video, but yours.
I love how every detail, no matter how little or big, was given thought and time into it, especially the marks such as the talon ones on the ice! This definitely felt like Hailstorm, someone proud of his tribe, but at the same time conflicted. I'm glad Pyrite was given less time than Hailstorm and only appeared at the end for the "Surely this is all what I ever wanted", almost as if he is trying to convince himself that he still does, but the curse still haunts him and reminds him of this one question; Where do you truly belong? Where do you *wish* to be?
Phenomenal work, Lamp! Even if the expressions are subtle, you can tell what the characters feel; nothing feels too cramped, but neither boring or empty. The designs are simple yet have this odd little quirk about them that makes my neurons go bonkers in a good way! That was an experience I don't regret staying up late for, and I thank you for that.

@@Octavia_Goetia_666 You cannot put Qibli in a category because he is a whole different problem on his own, and I honestly don't know how to feel about that. But yeah, I don't care about him. Never liked him from the beginning, most likely still won't. It may be how annoying he is with his insecurity. Or the questionable decisions. Or how he feels written like a character we're supposed to like, by force. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I am from outer space, and don't understand human emotions well-enough to realize I am speaking bullshit. We'll never know, for neither do I. Qibli is a disliked character of mine among plenty other popular ones, each with a different reason.

I hope if Sutherland decides to write any more future arcs or winglets, it would be fascinating to see what Hailstorm is going through after his experiences. Amazing work on this animatic Lamp!
i really do hope tui writes a fourth arc! especially if its like auklet and bumblebee grown up, and their kids or something, or a third continent with new tribes! i dont really like hailstorm, but it was interesting to read his point of view throughout that crazy experience. also, great work as always lamp!
@@grimgrahmcracker i think that if there was an entire book on him, you’d like him more! We didn’t get to see much of Hailstorm and he was kind of a side character so I can see why you didn’t grow attached lol(and neither did i)
@@echothefreak9396 yea no i agree, i seem to get more attached to those that have alot more povs, or just straight up books about them. hailstorm had loads of potential, especially with his mind control arc and getting his memories back. imagine if he got them back but had a new light on them, like roughing around with his brother was seen as 'hes a bad dragon, he wanted to hurt me' even if it was just a game. i think that would be amazing, and it would get me more interested in him, but he seems kinda mid to me. (no hate)
Hailstorm is such an interesting dragon. I'd love to see more from him.

This song REALLY fits hailstorm. its really amazing how perfect it is. Plus being from one of the greatest animated films of all time is a huge bonus.

One time we were watching The Prince of Egypt in class, and when the song said "sweet perfumes of incense" a girl in my class thought it said sweet perfumes of incest. Other than that THIS WAS SO GOOD.
When he was little, my cousin deeply inhaled the candles my aunt had lit and declared "I LOVE THE SMELL OF INCEST" to the whole family 😭

Just discovered this and as a longtime fan of The Prince of Egypt, I love it. It actually fits Hailstorm really well even with the different overall context, but the theme is still there.
Unabashed outward adoration for the home they grew up in...as a cover for internal doubt and confusion gnawing away at the soul.
This is lovely, it captures Hailstorms inner self wanting something other than what the Icewings have to offer. Him tragically remembering being a Skywing and not have the basic worry’s every other Icewing has.
Yes! Finally, more Hailstorm PMVS! He’s probably my second favorite Icewing besides Winter. Hailstorm’s backstory is so fascinating, with the whole Pyrite situation. I’m dying for a Winglet about him, probably the first half being about Pyrite and the second half being about him recovering from Pyrite. But without a doubt, THIS. IS. GOING. TO. BE. AWESOME.

If i Didn't read the script bellow the video I legit thought this was Prince Winter when he came home after freeing prince Hailstorm. I thought he was trying to convince himself via the song that he was back home and had his family together finally and belonged, but he couldn't shake off the fact that his group of friends back at the Academy showed him more love and acceptance then his family ever did. And at the end I legit thought the dragon at 1:21 was Moonwatcher as he missed her and her beauty that he had fallen for. And this took place before he got called to the Diamond Trial lol
This is so beautiful! It really shows the false happiness Hailstorm has and his grief left over from being Pyrite. I really hope we see more of him, maybe we’ll see him overcome his pain and past trauma.
I remember finding the original storyboard, then later on looking for it again and being unable to find it.
Now I return to find it finished perfectly!

I love all of the expression work in this; you really get the sense that even though Hailstorm is glad to be home, his time as Pyrite still weighs heavily on him and makes him question who he is. I also love Hailstorm's design, with his cheek markings.

I personally think Hailstorm is a fascinating character. He’s lived two incredibly distinct lives in a literal sense, and I find his character to be intriguing. Also, I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked on this with your WIPs, and man did your hard work pay off!! Seriously, the backgrounds are AWESOME, especially that final scene with Hailstorm walking off with the view of the kingdom. Truly incredible work!! 💖💖💖

I envy your skills man, but in a good way! :D Seeing your animaticPMV, inspires me so much to work on mine and motivates me even more. In fact it even gives me a better idea to use PMV Animatic instead of PMV AMV, it sounds better imo, so thank you for that since I been struggling with the title and what to call it!

yea. Split the background into different layers and tween it like I would a character.
So glad Snowfall got rid of that @$%&* wall. That thing was a reicpie for self esteem issues if I've ever seen one.
