Lol salty dog. I love Florida. Central Fl and Tampa for a few years. The car insurance is bananas. If you have new drivers on the policy forget it. It’s exclusive in areas for sure, it’s super desirable and rare. Plus the whole state just voted solid red! Florida can be it’s own country more easily than say California. CA has lots of land border. Fl has water, food and guns lol too. I’m a big fan
I live in Naples and it’s unlike any other town. Small, clean and friendly people. Miami is frantic and crowded, we’re the “ Quiet Coast”. By the way.......welcome!
@Dani, keep'n in mind that my Naples knowledge is about 10yrs outdated but up until I left in 2010 50 was probably avg age I'd say. I always thought cost of living/rent was high (until check'n out dif areas across the country) it was actually comparable. I've heard since then rental prices have gone UP!!? But i I managed to make ends meet as a single mom of two on a servers wage/tips for the last 4-5yrs prior to moving out of state. If you have time & patience you can find affordable & more than accommodating housing. Naples was a beautiful place to raise children. Everything & everybody from high end Celebrities (LoT$ of millionaires) finest of dining, best boutiques (downtown Naples; 5th ave shop'n probably puts Cali to shame) and my fav, plenty of outdoor activities like hunting, mud'n, camp'n, swamp buggy races. Quiet or rowdy Indoors or outdoors you can find it there. At least 10yrs ago you could. Hope this helps somehow, was start'n to sound like a sales pitch, LOL. Best wishes
@@madukes541 thank you so much for the sweet and long message, super helpful. One question: where did you move to after Naples? Where is it better and more affordable in your opinion. Single Mom here too by the way :)
Washington, just outside of Seattle. GORGEOUS state but couldnt recommend it now. Housing 2-3X higher & ran by unqualified oficials in my opinion. In Ga now, housing is fair but covid has really hurt the job market. idk? i wish you the best of luck tho. (single mom's, always strong)
@Mary H I lived on Clearwater Beach & Safety Harbor from 1966 - 1987 Then Jacksonville 1992 - 96 I Have gone back to Florida to visit,,I would never move back ,, Housing, traffic, Utilities, yada, yada
Studies done by the University of South Florida have shown that tourism actually costs the state more than it receives from the taxes they pay. Basically, all they pay is the sales tax, same as Florida residents
This is something I learned recently. I have never done Miami or down south. It is another ball game. I definitely saw NYC in Miami. I definitely saw Miami or down South as another country.
@Savetime Mann You will say the same about Florida after a couple years. It ain't no oasis and the grass ain't no greener. I would suggest TX with that attitude.
How about Oregon where I live? Was paying $1900 a month for a one bedroom 500 sq ft apartment. People who have lived all their lives in Florida have no idea how much more expensive it is throughout most of the country.
I was rescued by my brother after the passing of hurricane Maria in September 2017. After the hurricane I lived with out electricity and running water for four months, until my brother sent for me. I took a jet blue flight to Orlando FL. I thank God Almighty for helping me survive the hurricane. It was a frightening experience, the winds were blowing over 250 miles per hour. Moving to Orlando was a Godsend. I flew to Orlando with the close on my back and my father's burial US Flag, he was a Tuskegee airman pilot when he was the age of 18. I love ❤ Orlando FL and it's people's. 🌠☀️🙏♥️🇻🇮🇺🇲💯👍
I moved to Florida from New York City about 40 years ago. I loved it at first, however I'm ready for a change. I miss the seasons and it seems like it's getting hotter for a longer period of time. I no longer enjoy the 90° weather 10 months of the year. So next year when I retire, we're moving halfway back. We're moving to the mountains. Who knows, maybe we'll do the snowbird thing!
Debbie it was a great place to move to back then. But the past 2 or 3 decades i would say stay away. I am still stuck in Southeast Florida and i hate it. Much better in places in the country than here even other parts of Florida are better.
Same here in "Seasonless" AZ🌋!! I am SO over 115+ for 2 months, and then different ranges of heat for several more months each year🙄:( And no, it is NOT always a dry heat. My BF absolutely loves it and plays golf year-round, while never even wearing anything but shorts and sandals on a daily basis😎... I am simply done, after 9 years, and heading back to Nevada and my beloved COLD Sierra Nevada Mtns❄🏔☃️~:)
Florida’s greatest appeal is FREEDOM. And that’s huge in this day and age . Other than that , it’s an Air Conditioned Nightmare unless you love hot weather and flip flops
Flip flops and shorts all year!! Left MI 30 years ago and NEVER looked back. Another day in paradise! AC works great and you get used to the heat. My many broken bones require warm weather! Lol
On the contrary David. Florida is no different than those states which border it to the north, Georgia and Alabama. It’s a conservative “Southern Police State” where adults enjoy much LESS freedom than other places. Are you allowed “recreational marijuana” to add some enjoyment to life? Are you allowed to end your life (Death with Dignity Act) if you have a terminal disease? Florida is not at all for those who cherish freedom.
As for driving in South florida, they're three types. Hispanics who learned to drive on donkeys in they're native countries. Old people who drive real slow. People from New York and New Jersey who will cut you off and clearly don't want to share the road. It makes things hell for people from anywhere else. I work at staying off toll roads/expressways.
Florida rob my son im from calif my son is in the. USAF. in tampa. he hook up with a girl from the varrio tamp shes got plenty of homegirls pretty girls i lost my son. his home is in tampa its hot humid he loves the beach im not moving to florida the best mexican food is in California. I grew up.in southern cal lived near the beaches redondo, huntington bch and newport seafood galore but this corona virus is jacked up and biden sucks
@@davidortega357 sounds like he likes it better mane. Caribbean food is really good. May have got him hooked lol but there's still good Mexican. And how does Biden tie into this 🤔😂😂
After having lived in Florida for over 40 years, I've seen it change drastically and I'm ready for a change. Summers are looong and oppressively hot and humid, to the point where I hibernate inside in the a/c for months.Too many crazy and rude people moving here from other states, traffic has become horrendous, I-4 and I-95 are death corridors and I-75 is clogged with semis going up and down the state, cost of living has sky rocketed, shortage of housing has become critical. Rents and prices of homes have become so expensive, regular mortals can't afford them anymore. Homeowners insurance has also skyrocketed. We pay about 3 times more in homeowners insurance than in other states. The pay down here, doesn't compensate for all the increases this state has experienced over the past few years. If you have a nice nest egg, you're one of the lucky ones, although most people who move here, don't, and they're struggling. If you find yourself on unemployment, the state pays a maximum of $275 a week. Oh, and education took a hit too. There is a severe teacher shortage in practically every county. I'm just glad, I no longer have children in the school system. Their teachers are underpaid, and have left in droves. You can garden here though almost year round, if that is your thing but the weeds are ubiquitous and pop up anywhere and everywhere, seemingly overnight and it's a continuous struggle to keep them at bay. The only thing I look forward to are the mild winters, all 2 months of it, if that. We do have mostly nice beaches though, but I'm over that too. Most of them are very crowded and parking is expensive now. Used to be able to park for free but that is no longer the case. If you live near the coast, the salt in the air from the ocean will quickly corrode your vehicles and a/c condensers like you wouldn't believe. Further inland, that's not a problem. We also have bugs the size of helicopters ;) bears wandering through neighborhoods because humans keep taking away their habitat, raccoons destroying your garden furniture, and for good measure, we'll throw in some venomous snakes and gators too.
I've reviewed living somewhere else I've lived here all my long life, and guess what we live in the most cost affected state you will pay more for housing and property taxes, etc. in all other states so try moving elsewhere if your complaining and you'll see we live on $2000 a month house is paid for! My husband and I said were so glad we live here! I know someone who has money lives in another state there accountant told them to buy a house in Florida if you want protection from estate taxes! And get other tax advantages. So really wished some ppl complaining would move out of state lol! Sure some areas in Florida I wouldn't live they are much more costly to live I live in the country thank goodness!! No one lives close to us 😊
I moved to Naples, FL two years ago from London, UK. Huge improvement in quality of life, zero regrets. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the US.
@David Andrews Spousal visa for me, without that it's not easy and you do indeed probably need to look at the business set up route. Most ex pats here that I know run local businesses that provide house related services to the super rich.
HOA’s suck! My mom lived in one at WGV,n those cookie cutter houses and their silly ass rules and fines I could never deal with. I’m glad it works for some ppl :) That kinda “living” would bee my worst nightmare❤️
HOAs are the same everywhere, look nice if you don't live there or you just stay inside all day. Control freaks move to HOAs, been there, done that, never again-especially with kids!
I get that this video is almost a year old, but still a great video. As a native Floridian, there is 1 thing to add to your "things to do" list (if you haven't done so already): Florida has received multiple gold medals for having some of the best state parks in the country year over year. We have hundreds of natural springs in central/north FL, as well as our own national scenic hiking trail that runs from Big Cypress in the Everglades through Gulf Islands National Seashore on the panhandle... lots of outdoor activities here besides beaches and theme parks!
So funny😂 i just came across this vid, i moved there last yr, and bought a condo, within 1 month i put my condo on the market, I couldn’t stand the traffic, and some of the people who live and ran my condo Association. I don’t mind it for vacation I actually like it, but I will never live there again, I would rather have a cabin and land away from everyone
I moved from New York City to Clearwater Fl and I would NEVER go back. Fortunately, our area seems to dodge the hurricanes. Only 1 serious storm in 15 years.
Lol. I moved from Cleveland to Palm Harbor, and my mom stays in Clearwater. I absolutely love it and she's home sick. lol. We are protected from hurricanes by the Seminoles. I did my research before coming.
Moved to Florida in 1987. I don't miss digging my car out of the snow, although the summers have been very hot in the last few years. The other 9 months are great. I live in Central Florida but the beach is only about 1 to 2 hrs away. Overall I still love living here. 💕
The way traffic is now a days only a sadomasochist wouldn't be angry. And ita not really the New yorkers, i went to New York foe the 3d time maybe 2 years ago and compared to Miami, i thought everyone nice n decent. No lie. So that either shows you NY is nicer or w/e these days or that Im so used to a level hostility that I think NY is nice place with some kool people lol idk which is which!?
Also they brought those no logical, absurd ideas they have, that destroyed New York. They are moving the De Blasio no sense ideas in a well governed State.
Oh, I forgot to add....for most of the year you cannot take your dog anywhere if you have to leave him or her in the car for even a minute! Too hot to walk your dog. Too hot on the pavement for doggie paws. Lack of comfort for my dog is a main issue for me.
I wouldn't let pets hold me back from moving to FL. I'm moving there with no pets at all and will be renting and won't be paying oet fees and don't have to worry about all the rentals that aren't pet friendly. Life is too short to let pets rule and run your like. Get a cat instead because they are more dependent and you don't have to babysit them like dogs.
This has been a helpful video. My mother, sister, brother in law, and I have considered moving south together. It's good to know the best things to consider before such a move since none of us have mad a big move outside of the state before. Thank you.
Miami looks and feels great in TV and in movies...or if you are wealthy and live in a bubble. The rest of the common folk need to deal with the homeless, the crime and the high prices of the area.
It can be difficult sharing close amenities with “ strangers “, but I do feel we need to go a little further with boundaries. If everyone ate while roaming could get messy. The toys on the other hand are what pools are for! LOL!
Your video is excellent and right on , i was very worried at first and undecided about moving to Florida after looking at a lot of videos so i rented a condo in a recommended area where i liked that was relatively safe and lived for six months , during this time i traveled a lot to various parts and stayed sometimes a week or so i also made a long list of all the pros and cons of living here as opposed to the state where i left and also what my preferences are which helped me a lot with my relocation decision , the point is what's ok for you may not be for someone else , Florida is not perfect by any means but i absolutely love it here and i am happy with my decision to make it my home .
I'm coming to Ft Myers tomorrow. Going to look around and see where I might want to live in 2 years when I retire. Anytime I've been to Florida in my lifetime, I didn't want to leave.
👋🏼 Moved from California but originally from NYC. Relocated 2 yrs ago to Clearwater! While the beach is beautiful, not impressed with homes of which the majority are old, have water and mold damage, and overpriced. While there is no State tax here in Fl., prices are in line for food, clothing, and other goods with both my two previous states. Thus, while I am not thrilled with Fl., I do love the beach….and make it a point to go to the beach several times a week! Tampa, Clearwater, Kissimmee, Orlando, Miami, and Broward Counties home and rental properties are overpriced for not very good homes/neighborhoods. Appreciate your video!
Plus and minus for any state. People move without doing real research and find out they don't like it as much as they thought. Now moving for climate change I can understand.
here is the fix, you could always build. It's a much cheaper option if you do steel frame. Not only are steel frame structures quicker and most convenient to build, but they are also cheaper and easier to maintain. Unlike other building material options, steel frame units are most often thought of as a one-time cost.
I lived in FL for six year afternoon early retirement. Idid not like the weather. People that move to Fl say they love the wheather but then they live indoors and turn the airconditioning on (60 degrees or lower) .Outside the weather can be in the nineties most of the year with high humidity. Every bug is out to get you! I'm back in the northeast loving the snow! FL is not for everyone! Take care and be safe
You got that right they don’t go outside in the summer at all. Nice to visit but not to live. My mom and dad move there over 20 yrs ago and my dad love it and my mom hated it. And she made his life miserable until the end what a mistake it turn into.
In Tampa, the ave high temp is only 81.7. There are only two months when the ave hits 90. I find that fat people can't handle heat. If you're thin, 80-90 degrees is comfortable.
@@darylfoster7944 It not only the temperature it also the humidity that is the worse part. The only people that come out in the summer for the most part are people on vacation. I been to Florida over 20 times there just isn’t nothing special about it. Unless your by the water not much to look at either. The woods and trees are ugly nothing except for Palm trees can take the heat nothing good can grow with the heat and little water. Don’t get me wrong it not the worst place to be it just wouldn’t be my number one choice. People go there one time on vacation and than move instead of checking other places out first. Check a few states out than decide for sure if your retiring what’s the hurry.
Thank you for your video. I agree with your comments. I am trucker and after having been driving all over the country I can tell you Florida is one of the worst states for driving but the best for living. The weather here is absolutly amazing and people are mostly friendly. I am living in Jacksonville (NE Florida)and I think it's a perfect place , all you need to do is choose a calm , quite and clean neighborhood.
I'm a retirednurse and living in fla is a nightmare work wise!!! Very, very seasonal! Especially in summer! I know alot of people who workv3-4 jobs in the 'season in order to make it thru the year!!!
Very well done video sir. I'm from florida, I grew up in St petersburg. Maybe it's because I spent most of my life here, but I look forward to moving someplace cooler. The summers here are oppressively hot and long. I find that I hardly leave the house for many months in a row causing me to be gaining weight and feeling unhealthy. I've lived for short times in more mountainous areas and that suits me better as I am very into the outdoors. There's no good hiking in florida. There is walking and sweating in sand looking at pretty much the same geographic features continually. There's no real diversity unless you go up to maybe the spring Hill area. If all you want to do is sit on the beach, go boating or fishing, then this might be for you, but if you enjoy camping and hiking you're going to be soon disappointed. The one thing I do love about Florida is the freshwater springs! All of our glorious springs are simply magical experiences, but now with so many people moving here, they are often way too crowded to enjoy. Still worth kayaking down the weeki wachee River though!
Yes...summers go on for 6 months...also the whole State is just a huge sand bar at sea level that jets out in the ocean. Not much culture nor scenery. It is like living on a barge. People commoniy complain of shear bordem. Ok you have the beach....more sand...sand, really!lets go where there is more sand and sit there while the blinding angry sun pounds down on you...lol There is nothing here but CVS...Walgreens...Cosco...lol... Florida is paradise for some and a pure nightmare for others. It's a great place to retire and die...oh. then you get attacked by the bugs..oh I forgot the ants misquotes..no see ums lots of bugs...lol
I live in Orlando and visit St Petes often, the heat does not bother me,we only have 3 months of heat really, compared to 9 months of cold in the north..You would like Perry Florida from what i read about your lifestyle.
@@neilcharles2520 the heat and boredom and the retired boomers and the Red Tide are deal breakers for me....and the bugs...getting sun burned...sweating...humidity...
Problem is people from up North buy property then want to rent for Northern rent. The majority of people here don't make much money per hour that's why they aren't happy - they can't earn a livable wage to pay northern rent prices, it is cheaper to own than rent due to out of state people buying up property. The unemployment isn't low - Florida only provides 12 weeks of unemployment instead of 26 weeks like most states - they can only count you as unemployed if you are actively collecting, if you have not found a job after 12 weeks your homeless and unemployed but not counted. It isn't low - fake manipulation - tourist state.
I've lived near Collier county for 10+ years and salute you for the accurate assessment of Florida living. I'm from coastal Virginia and would never leave Florida. I only wish I had relocated long ago, because I've never been happier.
@@carroyo911 there's a homeless problem for the same way LA has one. People move here with a "movie" type idea and mindset of fun in the sun and acting or whatever and quickly discover that life in Miami is rough and drugs are prevalent and, well u see where im going with that. Also south Florida and Miami have the highest mental health problem rate in the country and the lowest budget to deal with it and well, many homeless have mental health issues
You made a great move buddy. I moved out of NY and headed out west to Arizona. Best move of my life the weather is gorgeous 9 months a year except summer
I'm with Robert, I'm an Arizona girl (transplant). The heat can be intense, but dry heat is so much easier to tolerate than FL humid heat. Plus, where I'm at, it's an easy 4 hour road trip to the Mexican Baja..long white sand beaches, warm crystal clear water. Friendly people, great food and culture..love it down there...easy trip in the spring and fall. Also, where I live is a short trip to the snow in the winter for winter sports. It's got it all.
Great video! I moved from Cleveland to Palm Harbor (5 mins from Clearwater, 20 mins from Tampa, St.Pete, etc) and I LOOOOOVE it. I love the heat, the humidity, the palm trees, all the different birds and wildlife, the sun, the open sky, the vibe, all that. I researched this area and it's not really prone to getting hurricanes like around the other FL areas. The cost of living is not bad, but I did notice that jobs don't pay as much as they do up north, so best to have a skill or degree. The people can be alittle crazy, but they are generally very friendly in this area. It's like everyone is on vacation. I wouldn't trade it for the world honestly.
theStallioness .. when I drove up to Palm Harbor there were some areas that were really beautiful but I remember getting gas for my car on a main strip and there were too many adult shops together in one section ... it had a sleeazy feeling ; I couldn't wait to get back in the car ... this was back in 2012 .
Me and my girl are thinking about moving to Florida from Michigan! Tired of this weather ! I grow up in Florida when I was younger and always went back to visit! My parents moved there twice !!!!! I need a change in my life ! Lol 🙏gets depressing up here soon as October comes lol
The average age in Naples Florida is now 45 years old with two children. It has completely changed since moving here 29 years ago. They can't build enough schools for all ages.
The title of your video caught my attention. I moved to Panama City in 1986...from New Jersey!! I loved it here from the very first day! I've been through many hurricanes, two which severely damaged my home...Michael actually destroyed it. Still, I would rather go through a home damaging hurricane every 20 years than go through Winter every year.
Exposure to a large number of mold spores may cause allergic symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, itching, coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, headache, and fatigue. 👉 Repeated exposure to mold can increase a person's sensitivity, causing more severe allergic reactions.
I moved to Tampa FL from Houston TX in 2014. Overall I’ve enjoyed it but it has come with some huge downsides. The Tampa Bay Area is very obviously a growing economy which means finding a good paying job isn’t hard; we have some of the best colleges in the state; average age is mid-30s which is young compared to the rest of the state; crime is lower than the national average. One thing I noticed though is that non-natives outweigh the number of natives in Tampa and honestly the northerners are generally rude, I definitely had to develop much thicker skin here than what I had back in Texas; also, drivers suck terribly and that’s reflected on our insurance rates; buying a home down here was also a huge pain for me because investors (mostly out of state ones) come down here, buy up all the good properties - especially ones by any beach, lake, or pond - and rent them out. If you earn an average salary here, good luck with buying a home, you’re gonna need it; also, my HOA sucks, I see no tangible benefits from paying $300/month to the HOA.
@@CultureEstate in hindsight, my comment seems a bit negative but I can assure you I’ve enjoyed it here more than not, northerners included who helped me develop a liking for hockey lol.
Insurance can be so high for homes and cars because of the weather hurricanes and flooding. And they’re idiots everywhere rural areas sometimes are the worst. It a different kind of people moving in rural areas now. So many don’t like being by people don’t want neighbors some real idiots they don’t want you to step one foot on there property. Not like the old days where they use to watch out for each other.
Great video! The good aspects of living in Florida: Weather, beaches, taxes. It is a great place to learn to fly an airplane or join a flying club if you already have a license. Going on the beach on New Years eve is a blast. Same with Christmas. Lots of fresh seafood. If you have kids they will learn to swim in no time. The bad : Wages are much lower, it is best to have a job lined up before you move there. You will be shocked how little you are paid unless you have your own business like the presenter. Many people do not like children as the presenter mentioned. Many retirees apparently move to get away from their children and don't like yours. Many didn't like mine. Stay away from HOAs the rules will drive you crazy. It's very flat. I wish I still lived there but there's an old Yiddish saying, Man makes plans, and G_d laughs. Good luck to everyone!
Dance...yeah, the Proverbs have some wise sayings about plans also, ""In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." "Many are the plans in a man's heart, BUT it is the LORD'S purpose that prevails." "All a man's ways seem innocent to him, BUT motives are weighed by the LORD." "To man belongs the plans of the heart, BUT from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue." "A man's steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?" Hope this helps someone.
Thank you for the information. I’m moving down to St. Augustine from Philadelphia and I can’t wait. I’ve been to St. Augustine many times since the late 70s and I’m so excited that this time I will be staying. My brother lives in Port Charlotte and absolutely loves it there. So, I’ll be seeing you soon and can’t wait to establish myself as a Floridian. 🥰🐬🐟🐠🐡🦀🏝🏖
I live in South Florida and that is one place that I have never visited but congratulations I would love to live in St Augustine it is beautiful and you do get better weather
I think the reason why people are always angry in Miami is because whatever they do cause so much more and if you have to circle for an hour to get parking and have to make a booking wherever you go it becomes really uncomfortable I would highly recommend you to try the area fort Lauderdale far more like that same environment just so much nicer people in general
@@dmurphy7951 I'm moving from Colorado to FL the housing market is crazy but with education you'll find great jobs and it's beautiful. This isnt the Northeast our weather is absolutely perfec with beautiful mountain views. I just can't imagine living in a place where it's summer 8 months....well I guess I don't have to as I'm moving there. Reluctantly. I'm so sad about it.
Yes you did. I’ve been stuck here for 24 years. I speak from personal experience. 100 degrees and being eaten by mosquitoes all year, really sucks. I can’t wait to leave. I will say that politically it’s awesome though. Ron DeSantis has been doing a great job!
After years of snow and ice in Indiana, my wife and I moved to a small town near Orlando two years ago. You make some very good points in your video, but I'll add a couple of negatives. First and most of all, not only are the summers extremely hot and humid, but the mosquitoes are horrible. To make it even worse, both my wife and I have actually developed what they call skeeter syndrome -- we have allergic reactions to mosquito bites with constant itching. Second, except for the snow and ice I really truly miss the seasons, especially beautiful cool fall weather. The only cool weather down here occurs in January and part of February -- fall is still hot hot hot. Quite frankly, I'm ready to sell the house and move back north, maybe buy a condo and let somebody else shovel the show. But I'm tired of Florida and it's heat and those horrible mosquitoes.
@@commonsense8012 How do they do that? If there is a mosquito control system, it means that they are doing mass spraying of pesticides. That means that every person and animal is breathing in pesticides. I am not positive but I don't think that would be good for anyone, over time.
Some people can't do the weather, but the spring is short and the fall really extends into November.if you live near water, there will be mosquitoes, but if you live in a city, they generally spray for mosquitoes and you can get good sprays for your arms and legs. If you have rainwater trapped in flower pots etc, you will be breeding your own. Dump out any standing water. For comparison, if you travel to the Everglades, the mosquitos will carry you away. Also, since Florida is a long state, the weather is very different, as you head north. Good luck!
I love FL. but I will tell you that the summers are like being in a Sauna, so if you can be up north for at least 4 months out of 6 months of summer, durring the summer that might help you. But don't let the humidity of the summers sway you, because there are so many sunny days year long in this beautiful state, and great sunsets all the time and rainbows are commen here. I stay year round Because I can't afford to go back and forth. In Michigan I used to have to work all winter long outside in construction and hated it. Grey skies about 28 days of every month in MI. Life is much easier here in the winter of course compared to scraping ice off your windsheild every morning up north. If you like nature and wildlife, there are many cool birds here that you won't find up north and your Kids may like this too. There are far fewer Hurricanes that hit the gulf coast side, ( the last one was Charlie in 2004 and Erma about 3 years ago. then you can go 10 years before a hurricane hits the gulf side. Usually if they go around the southern tip of FL. then they out and away to TX. or LA. You have plenty of prep time. I don't listen to the TV news much durring Hurricanes, It's Best to just bookmark the NHC site (national hurricane center) for best info. first hover mouse over storm for a bit of info, then click on the storm for travel cone info , then got the dicussion page link. Florida is worth it, Enjoy your life here Bro.
@@CultureEstate I have lived on both coasts of Florida and a friend lived inland near Leesburg. Inland or the east side of the state have more of a problem with humidity most of the year. The Gulf coast doesn't have that problem most of the year. In summer is definitely very, very hot but the humidity is usually isn't as bad EXCEPT after the PM thunderstorms in the afternoon and evenings. Then the humidity is thick enough to cut with a knife, you can literally see it in the air. Just do like the life long Floridians do, go from air conditioning to air conditioning for four months.
Very thoughtful video and I appreciate your honesty in the "pro's/con's" of moving & living in Florida. I've lived all over (45 moves total) and I'm currently looking for a place to "put down roots" too. I have to say I'm terrified of making the "wrong" decision because I also have a special needs son - almost 18 - and so the life I make will be for him also. So many things to consider, but again, I appreciate your video and the thoughtful commentary you bring to it. :)
I don't know if you've made your decision, but I am a native Floridian that is no longer in the state, but has a lot of family still there. Please make sure you look into what kind of support there is for your son if you move there. In my experience, there is very little help unless you are willing to pay out of pocket or have very very good insurance. Medicaid and medicare in FL ranks very low in the country for disabled people.
I lasted 3 weeks in Sarasota 3 years ago. After that, I needed to get back to a major city - or at least close to one, a little bit of coolth, and to be somewhere I could wear real clothes instead of shorts and a t-shirt 24/7/365. There's a lot to like about Florida, but I couldn't live there full time.
I've been in Naples for the last 3 years. I like living here, but I also have lived in Bonita Springs & Estero, both are a very short drive (15-30 minutes) from Naples. In my opinion, Naples may be the most "elite", but the other two are just as close to the water, and are equally as enjoyable if not quite as wealthy.
@Shawny Monique to be honest in my opinion, Hollywood Florida is great. I never been in CA, but compared with other states that I have been Hollywood is by far the best
I live in the panhandle area in a nice quiet neighborhood and I would never trade it for a big city. Because I love 2 car garage and big driveway and your neighbors is an acre away.
@Saša Š Actually, my Best Friend is HS was Latino, his Family owned a Grocery Store, we use to go to the migrant camps to sell food, so I learned Spanish, before learning Spanish was cool.
Florida morning used to be my favorite vacation spot (Ft. Lauderdale, Miami area) but he is right, Miami is not at all what it used to be, which is really sad. I love the changing of the seasons, sweater weather and cannot stand hot, humid weather beyond the summer months; can’t breathe when in it.
@@speedracer1945 I have lived in Miami and I speak Spanish. Plus what the ethnic areas have to do with it? There are ethnic areas pretty much in every cities, small and big.
@@LauraRonchetti you live there so you know the turf many dont so just informing others it helps to speak Spanish since some dont speak English though many are bilingual. Its a advantage , so stop taking it personal !
Very helpful review! As someone who grew up and is still in NJ, I can't tell how insightful this is. Our boys are 8 and are resistant, but my wife and I are trying to do what's best for our family. Thank you for making this.
It's best to move before they're teens and really can give u a hard time. Depending in where u move, florida doesn't have the best rep as gar as education is concerned so that's definitely something to consider. RESEARCH the school systems where you're considering. I love in the tampa area and that's tons of schools but u gotta pick the right one.
@@bs4real I have done the move, but truth be told I would not have done it if I had young children. New Jersey has a better school system. That is just my believe.
Used to be nobody wanted to live in the "Mosquito infested hot SWAMP" that was Miami...I was a happy little girl back then!...😂...Cuban factory workers were given the swamp to keep the language barrier from making difficult in the other cities, until their descendants could learn the language and move around to other states...Though my parents spoke English and worked the hotels...Nostalgic Cubans started building businesses like the ones they missed from Cuba and visitors from South America would come to shop for things they would sell at their shops back home... These "Entrepreneurs" saw an easy market and entry point for their "DRUGS" and set "SHOP"...Little by little they tried to "SQUASH" the PEACEFUL living Cubans...We didn't know RACISM or "KILLINGS" as savage as we witnessed from them...Let alone, how to "POISON" our host country...Heck!...We barely bring clothes on our backs, let alone DRUGS...Cuba was a "MECCA" for Americans, ever since the "Spanish American War", when America bought it from Spain...They love Americans...After all, we were Americans for 5 years...And, still feel American in a special part of our hearts...That's why my parents spoke English...And, why other Spanish speaking races, HATE us... It's not the Cubans that you encounter "ANGRY" in Miami...It's the other Hispanics that tend to make the Cubans angry at times, when we have let them know "What time of day" it is...The "Happy, Funny and happy to enjoy your company" you meet in Miami, 90% of the time are Cubans...Like me!...Welcome to Florida, little boy...I'm sure your lovely family will LOVE it here...Many blessings and love...🙏😘💖🌹
I used to visit Hialeah and always enjoyed the people, the food, and all the shops. My son's baptismal outfit came from there, and that's a fond memory. Take care.
West Coast Florida is not the Best Coast ! Gulf of Mexico never recovered from the oil rig explosion and subsequent leaking of crude oil. East Coast Florida is a better vibe , imho!

I never paid attention of how rude we could be here in South Florida. South Florida is not like Central Florida or Northern Florida. Well, I realize this when I was visiting in Georgia and everyone there would just say hi to me as I walk by. I felt like I was so rude because greeting them was the furthest thing on my mind. I guess it’s because we are mostly indoors when it’s so hot. I don’t know why. Maybe also because it’s getting over crowded and it’s too hot to deal with people. Got to work on being nice. Another thing is people from New England are hard to deal with and Canadians. Nothing against you if you are from there but man you guys make me lose my patience. Florida is not bad. You just have to find your spot. I would avoid the cities. Not very safe and too many tourists. Plus, it’s more expensive.
I wanna go back home but you’re absolutely right, its not the same. Miami is not the same and people are angry and frustrated there. I think its a series of things
I moved to Orlando Fl from California back in 2006. NO REGRETS. Miami reminds me of L.A.! I'm from Argentina & I noticed Mexicans are more cordial BUT "some" Cubans & Porticans here are always pissed or out to get you. In my area there is no mask craziness. My sister-in-law is from Cuba & she agrees with me. Get out of Miami, you'll be more relaxed in Orlando.
ORLANDO?? You mean the people’s republic of? Filled with liberals? No thanks. Hundreds of smaller towns all over the state where we have MAGA country. Real people not phony liberals with despicable lifestyles

i moved to south florida from NJ a few decades ago. It was beautiful then but hear it is super crowded and built up now and not all that inexpensive anymore. I think they are angry in Miami because too many outsiders are moving there. I live on the west coast for a few decades now and thinking about moving back to florida but on the west coast now. i do not want to leave where i am now but it has become extremely unaffordable and the homeless problem is huge and frightening.
I lived in New York City where in addition to the annual federal income tax I paid huge annual state income tax. On top of those taxes I also paid a Hugh city income tax. Moreover, NYC sales and excise taxes are even more than outside the city limits. Florida has NO state or local income tax. With respect to Miami, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. A great alternative is nearby Fort Lauderdale.
Agreed! Im in Manhattan now and i lose 50% of my income with all the taxes combined. NY State and City tax and add sales taxes, road tolls, and you lose half your income. its insane and not worth it IMO. Im going to be looking at Dallas, Denver, or somewhere Florida.
I'm a LA native . I moved to west palm (del rey) sight unseen literally and I loved it. It's time to get used to the humidity and lizards everywhere. That was traumatizing. Rent was way more affordable. I have a 3 bedroom house for I paid for a 1bedroom in LA. Overlooking its a beautiful place but there no place like home. Great vacation spot ,retire or raise a family. But for a single person use to the fast pace Los Angeles lifestyle...should be reconsidered .. just my opinion
I moved to Florida from Seattle area 5 months ago and the humidity is crazy thick. I have found out that Florida is a giant sand bar and poor mans California but winter I expect the weather to be super nice.

Bought a Condo in Naples, I had to work with low pay. Lived through many hurricanes and hated the heat and humidity. 13yrs. I was stuck there, finally went back home "Chicago". Now I'm happy again and no more hurricane
Moved down there in the late seventies when my parents went there to eventually retire......having grown up in the Chicago area there so much of a culture shock, I only made it for a year before running back to the big city. Although they tried for years to get me back there I absolutely refused, would rather live in a cultured environment than a state with such stupid people. Their healthcare sucks, they try their best to funnel the elderly into nursing homes by over drugging them (my personal experience with my mom, who I also had to bring back to Chicago to save her).
This makes me excited to move to Florida! I’m moving to North Port from Littleton, CO, so it will be a major change in climate, but I’m looking forward to living near the beach!
Wow, really even over Hawaii? I've only experienced the island of Oahu in the tourist area but I'm happy to hear I made a good decision. I love it more and more everyday, not sure if its because Naples is beautiful but it feels like home. Thank you for watching and the awesome comment!

What are most of your neighbors like? Are you forced to wear masks and make appointments as mentioned in this video? Or is that nonsense mostly in Miami?
@@mikeuptegrove Neighbors are great and we now have a lot of friends in the building. Many are very active and we do a lot of things as a group. I don't care about hurricanes, Gators. The annoyances to me is the bugs, flying cockroaches and skeeters. Heat, humidity, traffic. I miss the ocean and the cons are worth it.
Good video and very fair assessment. Miami has a lot of Latin rivalry at play. Vemezuelans think they're better than Cubans, Colombians think they're better than Venezuelans, and estaiblished Cubans think they're better than newer arrived Cubans snd everyone else. This creates a lot of anger and agreesiveness. Miami has also become very expensive, and a lot of people are living the Miami lifestyle that they can't afford.

@Dani, keep'n in mind that my Naples knowledge is about 10yrs outdated but up until I left in 2010 50 was probably avg age I'd say. But i I managed to make ends meet as a single mom of two on a servers wage/tips for the last 4-5yrs prior to moving out of state. Everything & everybody from high end Celebrities (LoT$ of millionaires) finest of dining, best boutiques (downtown Naples; 5th ave shop'n probably puts Cali to shame) and my fav, plenty of outdoor activities like hunting, mud'n, camp'n, swamp buggy races.

I could of wrote this myself. You forgot about the red tide and the polluted septic tank they call beaches.
Agreed
I've reviewed living somewhere else I've lived here all my long life, and guess what we live in the most cost affected state you will pay more for housing and property taxes, etc. in all other states so try moving elsewhere if your complaining and you'll see we live on $2000 a month house is paid for! My husband and I said were so glad we live here! I know someone who has money lives in another state there accountant told them to buy a house in Florida if you want protection from estate taxes!

I think you need to make a video, sounds like you have a ton of info to share!

"To man belongs the plans of the heart, BUT from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue." "A man's steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?" Hope this helps someone.

What ?
I live on the west coast, north of St. Pete, we rarely have a mosquito, of course we have a great mosquito control system the county has.

Take care.
Miami was built on cocaine.
So true
St Augustine doesn't have a great night life...the place that has a good night life is FT Lauderdale and south of that...

Such a well done video with reasonable discussions. Really appreciate that brother!
Thank you for the awesome compliment brother. I really appreciate you
West Coast Florida is not the Best Coast ! Gulf of Mexico never recovered from the oil rig explosion and subsequent leaking of crude oil. East Coast Florida is a better vibe , imho!

What do you think about Daytona Beach?
@@joedonzi9552 What? That's a ridiculous statement. Liking east or west is a matter of personal preference, but the Deep Water Horizon accident has NO effect on gulf coast living today at all.

There is no medication to treat mold exposure.
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Canadians are not rude!
I lived in Palm Beach for 20 years and left to move back to Tampa where I lived the first 30 years of my life. South FL sucks!
When we were in Miami in a nice restaurant, the waiter told us “I know you are southern because you are nice” so I got that feeling.

Thank you for the advise, I'm sure the viewers who see this video will appreciate the information. Happy New Year!

Thanks for sharing! I appreciate you watching and commenting.
Agreed! Im in Manhattan now and i lose 50% of my income with all the taxes combined. NY State and City tax and add sales taxes, road tolls, and you lose half your income. its insane and not worth it IMO. Im going to be looking at Dallas, Denver, or somewhere Florida.
No local tax ? Really ? thats huge !
F*ck the ice and snow, stay in FL. Just go up north in the summer. THAT'S ALL.
True!
Yes and leave us natives to clean up the bs they bring down. Damn Yankees

Love Del Rey, very nice town

My advice to you as someone who moved here 6 years ago, when you got out under the sun, put on sunscreens.

I rarely ever comment on videos but I thought I would tell you that this is a well done video. It's informative. The content is to the point. It's presented in a relaxed and articulate manner and there's not a bunch of stupid "fluff" during it. i.e. follow me, subscribe etc. I hope to move to FL when my writing career takes off and I'll make sure that I look you up to help me find a place:) I also agree with the man, that your daughter shouldn't be eating chips by the pool, but refraining from commenting because you were taught to respect older people says a lot about your character, so that impresses me too. Keep up the good work! Oh and I forgot to add that you commenting on so many comments also shows me your sincerity to a proper path of success!

Hurricanes are gross that's why I left some years ago! And never looked back! BYE!!!
Chicago? 52 people shot last weekend in Chi Town! Snow and bitter cold winds! And Illinois is bankrupt!

We’ve jokingly called condo lifestyle as living in a dorm only now with some money. Mask are required in common areas but not in the gym or pool areas. Local businesses mostly require masks when inside.

Sorry to hear that

Great. Many people would rather live up north in the cold and miserable weather. I have noticed that most people stay inside up north from Oct through April. And there are many more fat and unhealthy people up there . Grab your crook pot and shovel 🤡
I'm a native Floridian but moved away 30 years ago. Planning to move back home. I'm from north Florida, totally different from south Florida in terms of culture and cost of living.
