- I should really stop making plans on what to do videos on :) This time, the shiny comes around in the form of my first Italian ship, the "Duca degli Abruzzi". And you all know how much I like light cruisers...

I went with max turret/ship traverse and max concealment. Beast of a ship!

One of the best cruisers if played right! Play this as a sniper/support and you will dominate.
Congrats on that Kraken! If I were pay real money for a ship, I'd probably pay for the Richelieu. I just like the idea of being able to fire all of my mains without showing my broadside.
I'm definitely going up the French BB tech tree as well. Nelson is another ship that can do that pretty well.
@@FunandGameswithTerry I'm about 2,000 free XP away from HMS Nelson. Almost there. I'm not sure how I feel about French tech tree BBs in general. The Lyon with a 16 shot salvo looks interesting though.
When you get the Nelson, try the HE. I found her AP somewhat disappointing, unless you're shooting at light cruisers broadsiding right in front of you. Also means that you have the correct kind of punishment loaded in case a DD shows up.
On the French line, I've played the Courbet at tier 4, and quite enjoyed her with a secondary build. The Bretagne at 5, on the other hand, has been a disappointment so far - slow, relatively weakly armoured and the guns haven't really convinced me so far, either.
Wonderful ship, very balanced and fun!

The guns are huge fun on this one. Good HE spammer, and much better torps than a Shchors

How much fun was this? I have the best games with her! Best hunter destroyer in my opinion.
I've been missing a De Grasse or Galissionaire at tier 7, and she perfectly fits the bill. Shchors still beats her at ranged sniping, but I much prefer her in close-up fights.
Get the lvl 5 Italian battleship too. Epic fun and she carries games a lot!

Actually the advantage of the British over the Italians wasn't accuracy (on daylight), which was not so different, but the much higher rate of fire, and also teorical range didn't really matter in real life engagements.
One example is the battle of Capo Spada: the HMAS Sydney fired almost all of their rounds, 1300 shots, against the two light cruisers of the Giussano class, while the italians shot 500 rounds in total between the two ships. The HMAS Sydney hit 5 times, which was enough to sunk one of the two italian cruisers, the hit rate was of 0,38%. On the other hand the shots fired by the italians weren't all directed against the Sydney, since they spent about 1/3 of the engagement trying to hunt down the five destroyers present, so let's say they fired around 300 - 330 rounds against the Sydney. They hit only one time, this makes an accuracy rate of 0,3% so not so different from the accuracy of the Sydney. Also considering that the Giussano class ships were barely light cruisers at all, they were probably the worst line in the entire fleet, as they came from a repurposed scout cruiser project, and of all the other Condottieri cruisers they were armed with the oldest cannons and rangefinder models.
Interesting, thanks! I've only read general information about the RM and Mediterranean theatre. Do you know any literature you could recommend? I feel like the battles between the British and the Italians are easily forgotten, between the North Atlantic and Pacific campaigns.
@@FunandGameswithTerry right now there are a couple of books that come to my mind: a very good start is "Struggle for the Middle Sea" by Vincent P. O'Hara. It's probably one of the most complete and objective works on the subject, and it is the book from I took the data I told before.
Another very interesting book is "The Italian Navy in World War II" by James J. Sadkovich, which contains very interesting data and statistics, but, being admittedly a revisionist study, sometimes the author is a bit too apologetic to some of RM choiches in my opinion. Still, considering that the bias come from an American, and not an Italian as you could expect, it is an interesting read, and overall the stats show that the Regia wasn't as bad during the war as usually is depicted.
Lastly, if you would be pleased to read something purely from an italian perspective there are a ton of books, of course, both by naval commanders of the time and historians. Marc'Antonio Bragadin is considered one of the best and most objective writers on the subject, not only by the italians, but also from the foreigners. His two major books are "The Italian Navy In World War II" (also edited by Giuseppe Fioravanzo, a very prominent naval theorist of the time) and "The drama of the Italian navy 1940-1945" (altough I'm not sure you can find it in english easily).
Another good but more generic and out of scope reading is "From Matapan to the Persian Gulf. The italian navy from the fascim to the Republic" by Giorgio Giorgerini.
Another interesting readings are the (many) books by Angelo Iachino, the commander of the naval squadron for the most part of the war, but they need to be read with grain of salt: in my opinion Iachino was a competent (almost good sometimes) commander, despite Matapan, but in his writings it's undeniable that he too often hides his own mistakes behind technical problems.
Terry: The struggle for the middle sea is very complete as noted above. A sailors oddesey the auto biography of Andrew Browne Cunningham the RN commander of the Mediterranean Fleet has some good insights to the major engagements. A fascinating read is Between Hostile Shores, Mediterranean Convoys 1941 and 1942. Originally published as a classified Battle Summary, Between Hostile Shores is a unique record written by naval officers during World War II, and soon after 1945. Stamped 'restricted' and subject to the Official Secrets Act these texts, maps, plans and first-hand accounts were held at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, South West England, now declassified and published..Between Hostile Shores exposes the appalling tactical risks that were taken, of strategic necessity, during the Mediterranean convoy battles of 1941 1942.
