Overview:
The Zeliangrong people live in three different states of India: Assam, Manipur and Nagaland tracing their roots at Makhel where they had dispersed from other Naga brothers. The Zeliangrong forefathers then moved to RamtingKabin, which is close to present Guangphuning (Oklong) village, Manipur. It was where they took shelter and began to search for a permanent settlement of their own. It is believed that from thereon, they began to expand and lived in the surrounding hills and set up the legendary village called Makuilongdi. It is widely accepted among the people of Zeliangrong today that their forefathers lived prosperously, liken to a "Golden Era" with a number of households rose upto a magical 7777. From thereon, they began to disperse to different directions in search of better pasture and now settled in the present Zeliangrong territory.
Besides due to vast population and continued search for livelihood and vocations, many are now staying in different parts of India as well as in different parts of the world for either pursuing studies in different colleges and universities or doing job in different organizations. Notwithstanding this geographical separation, the Zeliangrong people from different walks of life continue to feel the concern for their people and thus using modern gadgets and services, they continue to interact and discuss issues of common Zeliangrong interests.
The concept of expedition to the ancestral lands of the Zeliangrong people was conceived during one of the online discussions participated by Zeliangrong elites, youth, students, scholars, professionals. There was a strong consensus among the participants to see, survey and capture firsthand knowledge on the existing situation of our people with special attention to our losing cultural and historical heritage and by doing so, it was felt that the modern IT generation can reconnect themselves with their roots and can contribute better for the progress of their people starting from the grassroots.
Thus an expedition organised by Zeliangrong Citizens Forum was undertaken with the banner " Homecoming to Makuilongdi" starting from Peren Town (Nagaland) on 06th October 2012 and concluded at Makuilongdi (Manipur) on 23 October 2012, with participants varying from 33 people from starting till the end and sometimes upto 50 people in some stations and stretch along the journey.
With intent to keep record of the expedition and also to further inform and educate the people, a video documentary of the "Homecoming to Makuilongdi" is also made after the successful completion of the expedition.
Objectives of the Video Documentary:
The video documentary is made with the following agenda in mind:
A.To bring awareness to the viewers on the history and culture of the Zeliangrong people:
The expedition team captured videos on the historical and cultural significance such as RamtingKabin, Gwangphuning village, Makuilongdi Stone Heaps, Makuilongdi village range, Monoliths and Morungs of Puiluo, Stones Gates of Zenui, HaipouJadonang's tomb at Puiluan, Rani Gaidinliu's birthplace and tomb at Luangkao, Tharon Cave, Npiuluang Meadow, Tamenglong Stone pavements, Bhubon Cave at Cachar, MaipuiKaitao at Ramtan, et al. The migration pattern of the Zeliangrongs as shared by elders of Puilwo(Nagaland), Thaluan (Manipur) and Binnakandi (Assam) clearly pointed to Makuilongdi (may not mean only the present Makuilongdi Village) as their original abode, no matter which direction their forefathers left and no matter how far they had scattered, thus re-established the fact that Zeliangrong people are indeed one, and were from the same village.
B.To promote unity and fraternity among its different dialectical groups:
Since the expedition team comprises of the Zeliangrong youths from hailing from Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, speaking different dialects, however the love and concern shared by the villagers and other hosts in different places with the expedition team along the journey to our common legendary village need to be shared and this video will not only remind but send the strong message to the viewers that the Zeliangrong people though separated by different states boundaries yet their love for their people remain intact. Moreover the video will attempt to remind the established "indestructible bond of blood relationship" among the Zeliangrong people.

Our ancestors didn't travel through national highway as shown, but they travel from Makuiluangdi (BC) and passed through the dense forest, from mountain to mountain established new village after village and reach the beach of Chittagong. But luckily our homeland had been divided politically into different Country, District and States.
